Fun fact: Even Harry Houdini, who notably called out fake mystics and mediums and the like, was down with whimsy. An example is the fact that he didn't have anything negative to say about the Cottingley fairies photographs when asked, because they were made by some little girls that weren't trying to trick anyone into giving them money or anything and they just wanted people to believe in fairies. He didn't care if people faked magic, he only cared if someone was trying to scam people with the faked magic.

@@rowannnnnnnnnit’s true! Him and his wife loved outing scammers. they even had a special phrase that they agreed on so when one of them died, the other would go to mediums and such and see if they could tell them the phrase. Houdini died before his wife so she went around to every medium who claimed they could talk to him and they were never able to tell her the phrase.

This also happened to be esteemed doctor and author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's biggest misstep, since he believed in them too with the only test he ran on the photographs being to see if the film was doctored. He writes in the Sherlock Holmes books about the folly of wanting to believe something overriding your reason, and unfortunately that exact thing happened to him. It's a powerful thing even to people who know better. In case anyone's wondering, they were fairy illustrations from a book that were cut out and placed in environments. They didn't even look like real humans, the design was very much cartoon like. And the sisters were 13 and 16. People were so willing to believe them they didn't even find it suspicious they always asked to be left alone and unobserved when taking the pics.

I work in Special Effects in film, and the last TV show I worked on had kids with mind powers. It is so easy to fake telekinesis. Editing, fishing line, magnets, someone off camera. The list goes on. Like if these were all kids having fun, that's one thing. But like the people buying the classes are people who don't know any better, so probably kids. When I was young, I wanted wings and shit. Would I have stolen my mom's credit card to buy wings online? Maybe. I was a stupid kid. Ultimately scams like this hurt two people. The person who believed, and the person who pays for it

the absolute best debunking of telekinesis i've ever seen was James Randi. all he did was simply sprinkle packing peanuts around the object before it was to be moved using paranormal powers. no one ever was able to make any object move once the peanuts were present
I don’t understand why everyone who does those gimmicky telekinesis things insists on moving their hands when telekinesis should come from your brain right? So it shouldn’t take your hands to move to the object at all even if they aren’t touching the object
@frosthammer91715 күн бұрын
Because their refrence to how telekenisis is "supposed to work" is usually stuff like comics and superhero movies. Where you have people move their arms and do motions because its a visual medium and a character standing still and just "using their brain" is kind of boring and doesn't lead well into good visual storytelling. There is obviously almost no reason why it would be like this if any kind of real telekinesis like this would exist.
@TheGuindo14 күн бұрын
100% it's just there to make you think they're doing something. except for the cases where they are actually using the airflow from moving their hands around to do the trick.

You need to start off by using your energy and the air. It's how you get a feel for it. It's OK if you don't believe. These people don't care and that's why they are able to do it. NO SHUT UP I DID THE SAME THING AS A KID ohhh my god there was this one where you had to print out a picture of a fish (😭) and put it in/tape it on a necklace and then take a bath with the necklace on. i remember it so vividly because i tried it and was upset that it didn't work LMAO

i wasnt looking at the screen when jarvis went from talking about how he loves dropping lore to the words "my husband and i" and i genuinely thought "oh, when did jarvis get gay married? good for him" because i hadnt watched him in a while but it made sense somehow

12:50 I believe this is a simple practical trick: I think that they tied some transparent string to one point off camera, the other end is connected to the left (our right) hand. Put the tape(?) on the string and boom, it rises when lifting up the hand, falls off the string when hitting the desk This is a trick as old as time, sometimes the tie it to the hand, sometimes to the chest, to have hands free so they can wave them around the object
