That was very beautiful. Excellent playing, what a sound! Telemann is one of my very favorite composers ever.

Waking up listeners - Capriccio Stravagante is world-renowned for their memorable interpretations of Renaissance and Baroque music. Founded in 1986 by Skip Sempé, the ensemble of three to seventy performers incorporates Capriccio Stravagante, the Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra and Capriccio Stravagante Les 24 Violons. By the mid 1990s, the ensemble had built up an extensive discography for which they received international acclaim and had performed in major concert halls and festivals worldwide. Nonchalance & Power - The ensembles seek a musical aesthetic whose values have been nearly lost to contemporary musical life. Unlike many other early music ensembles, they adhere to traditional principles of articulation, rhetoric, scholarship, imagination and talent to break down conventions that have little to do with historical practice, particularly those originating in twentieth-century ‘Baroque’ performance practices. Capriccio Stravagante has recorded extensively for the Paradizo, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Astrée, Alpha and Teldec labels. Man-made beauty - The Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra offers virtuoso performers on a highly distinctive musical instrumentarium that includes violins, viols, recorders, cornetti, sackbuts, krummhorns, shawms, lutes, harps, harpsichords, virginals, organs, and percussion. Derived from the instrumental virtuosity that sixteenth-century music demanded, their playing techniques are completely unknown to classically trained instrumentalists and mainstream audiences today. The ensemble is the largest and most luxurious gathering yet assembled for the performance of masterpieces from this Golden Age of musical creativity. Awards & Rewards - Capriccio Stravagante’s exceptional chamber ensemble playing has inspired three generations of musicians, many of whom have gone on to enjoy international careers. The Capriccio Stravagante Prize was created by Skip Sempé in 1997, and served to encourage numerous musicians in their early careers. It is particularly touching that many of those musicians have now become an integral part of Capriccio Stravagante’s activities. Sempé receives lasting inspiration from the key members of these renewed generations.

Funny, at the 1:20 mark the combination between the violin and the recorder sounds almost like a baroque oboe 😝! Just for one phrase.

It is wonderful to see so many comments about this performance. What a skilled group of musicians, such perfect ensemble. I particularly like the style of the violinist, high bow hold and great ability to bellow the sound as it was at the time of the composer,. I must say I have not enjoyed listing to a piece of music so much for some time. Let us have more. Bravo Cheniston K Roland (Violin Historian)

I always thought until now the Paris Quartets were written for flue, didnt realise they could be played on a Recorder. Very beautiful performance, quite magical!
@FerDeAlmeida Жыл бұрын
It's a different kind of recorder. I don't know how it's called in English, but it goes as low as a D, just like the traverso.
@FerDeAlmeida Жыл бұрын
Ah, yeah. It's called a voice flute, just like in french and Portuguese. ;)

@williejax2 Thanks a lot for this information, I did not even know the existence of such flutes...
@ricardoayala20234 жыл бұрын
This is a voice flute in D. You can play the traverso parts as they are with this flute.
@ludustestudinis12 жыл бұрын
Extremely tastefule performance! The recorder in D sounds IMO better than a traverso for this piece.
@simoncarrier99106 жыл бұрын
Doesn't it always?
@ricardoayala20234 жыл бұрын
Both sounds good. Telemann was a virtuoso recorder player, even thou he prefers to use the traverso originally. Remember he wrote the second set of the Paris Quartets so Michel Blavet can play the traverso part. On the night of the first performance of this music, Telemann was at the harpsichord.

It seems that this piece is played in its original key... but it's E minor and the lowest note of the alto recorder is F... how could be possible??
@wj989837 жыл бұрын
debbyplayer ....i think this is a "voice flute, which is between an alto and tenor so the lower notes, playable on a traverso, will be playable on the recorder.
@glenshannon50717 жыл бұрын
He's playing a special size of recorder called the voice flute, which is a tenor recorder in D (sounds one whole step higher than a regular tenor). It exactly matches the range of the traverso but is fingered a whole step lower. Not a friend to flat keys, they tie your fingers up in knots.
