Nice performance of my favorite movement of my favorite set of quartets. I was a bit puzzled by the violinist's decision not to arpeggiate the chords in the climactic variation towards the end (the one with the moving eighth-note sequence in the traverse).

Finally we see Baroque musicians playing without music like the rock bands do!* It really comes out in their playing. I've never heard it with a lute in the continuo, it's a very nice effect. *except the violin... maybe he was a sub? har har har

Telemann lived to be 86years old , had friendship with Bach , involved in every song and is prolific . It is a genius musician who sees rarely . It is regrettable that we do not know the name so much . A universal musician who is soaked in the whole soul . This performance is unimpeachable and exquisite . My heart wavered with emotion . Greeting from mysterious Japan . Which national are you seeing this video ?

This piece is utterly remarkable, and their rendition is exquisite. They show a deep understanding of this repertoire and are able to render their own personal take on it, whilst remaining true to the style. I did find however, the "pop like camera angles" a tad off putting and unsuitable. That aside, it is one of my most favourite pieces to date.

I'm no musician, but I think they're playing on period instruments , meaning instruments from the baroque period. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it's a 5 string cello, a lute, a harpsichord, a wooden flute, and a violin.
@TonyBittner15 жыл бұрын
That's a viola da gamba not a cello piccolo.

Yeah, period instruments. Viola da gamba, baroque violin, baroque transverse flute, baroque lute, harpsichord. The Viola da gamba is a bass instrument and looks like a cello, but is actually more closely related to the guitar, as it has frets, a flat back, and is tuned in 4ths.

Sub = Substitute- he's got a music stand while the rest don't, which my silly mind thought might mean he was a last-minute player change and didn't have time to memorize the music. Sorry, it was just a dumb joke, the playing is still marvelous.

Once again, this group's excellent performance was hijacked by their 'cinematographer' with his frantic, LSD-induced bizarre filming style, who tirelessly works to use every device possible to (quite successfully) distract the viewer from the performers and their beautifully interpreted music. What a waste.....
@davehshs6517 жыл бұрын
+circa1720 Yeah, the cinematographer was a lot more interested in showing off his "skill" than in displaying the musicians and their music.
@circa17204 жыл бұрын
@Bill Ilkovski By that logic no one should go to concerts and watch the musicians perform (or watch videos of performances, which can be almost as good); they should just put on CDs and look at the sky...? Go watch Jordi Savall perform (which I have) and then put on one of his CDs and look at the scenery outside, and see which one is the unforgettable experience.
@circa17204 жыл бұрын
@Bill Ilkovski Since KZbin is viewed on a screen - which you feel diminishes the experience - then I guess I'm confused why you're on KZbin in the first place? You could enjoy all your music with a streaming music player outside.
@circa17204 жыл бұрын
@Bill Ilkovski That's a fair point - sometimes there are great finds in others' playlists or KZbin recommendations. So enjoy the birds and incense, and I'll enjoy watching the musicians/singers perform. Happy listening.

This video led to a delightful philosophical debat concerning the question: ' Can a thing of bad taste be perceived as good (or better) if it were juxtaposed to a thing of beauty?' We took some funny examples that reflected our feelings towards this video recording. 1. Can a photograph of a slaughtered pig be percieved as art, if it were put next to Vermeer's The Milkmaid? 2. Does Mozart's Requiem go well with Mc Hammer's Can't Touch This videoclip? Would you say that such a combination almost certainly would elevate the quality of both pieces of creative work? 3. Would listening to Gregorian choir music make you feel less or more uncomfortable with watching torture porn? We had a blast! By the way, the debate culminated in an answer on the final question: Question #4: Is there ever enough whipped cream to count for a pile of dog shit on the cake? Answer: No. You don't take crap.

Who is this first-year cine camera student trying to impress? An insult to the musicians - and if they liked it, then a fail because it will not attract young viewers to the classical fold just because of gimcrackery.
