Is that your son who's playing? He doing very well! I find it interesting that he seems be playing a "modern" violin with a baroque bow.

Hello ! That's right, this young boy is my son Jean (= John in French...). Thank you for your compliment, he will be flattered. I agree with you, he has reached an interesting amateur level. The bow is a baroque one indeed, but the strings are metal. Actually he also has a set of gut strings, but he only used them two years ago, for Clérambault's chaconne which made me very proud of him (and of his little sister at the viola da gamba) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYikd5-ggcmVgs0 After that he put his metal strings back, and I have to admit I am too lazy to change them for gut strings for every ancient piece. Gut strings are a little thicker than metal ones and it is a bit tricky to fit them through the tuning pegs... I would love to buy him a real baroque violin but so far he only learns "modern" violin at the conservatory, and above all I am waiting to win the lottery ;-) ! To say the truth, this very violin is not even ours, we rent it ! All the best, Nicolas.
