A voluntary group maintain and run three traditional sailing craft in Douarnenez. This is their story.
The Association Treizour was founded in 1979 and named after the people who used to operate the local ferry boats - "treizour" in Breton. Douarnenez is split from its neighbouring community of Treboul by a tidal inlet called Port Rhu. Before a high level bridge was built in the late C19th, the only link was a series of ferries. The treizour also ferried supplies to ships lying at anchor in the roadstead. They maintained the links that kept the port running. Symbolically, the members of the Association keep modern Douarnenez linked to its memories and traditions, hence the choice of name.
This video is an experiment in a more documentary format, with a new camera which I am still learning how to use, hence some rather grainy footage at times. I ask viewers to be indulgent of its many faults!
