This building actually has quite a bit of history to it! Formerly a rainbow-friendly coffee lounge from the late-1960's, it now houses more traditional offices nowadays, with the building being redone from top to bottom to look very modern indeed. Yet they've obviously kept the elevator, which definitely isn't original to the building, but I'm unsure if it would've replaced anything that came before it.... It is an OTIS Series 1 hydraulic from either the 80's or 90's, but this one actually uses the budget-style “lamp” indicator which I've previously only ever seen in smaller towns! Pair that with red-lit buttons and it's honestly a brilliant combo. But what's definitely not so brilliant is the battered chime on this lift - I doubt the current sound is by design, but it sounds very much like one of those old telephones ringing 🤣 It's especially hilarious when triggered via the “Series 1 chime trick”, because then you just get it over and over again! I actually first found out about this elevator from one of @otiscompassrules1727's videos, then @elevatorsinnz and I tried getting in through the Vivian Street entrance (what I later found out to be the back entrance which makes no sense 😭) 4 days prior but to no avail. I finally found out from a different enthusiast that the front entrance is actually on Jessie Street, which gave me access to this gem at last!
