technically your just overcoming the inertia and friction to pull chris not pulling 140 lb im guessing it takes less than 8 lb to move him on that bike , but ive always loved telescoping rods , im currently a fisheries bailiff on the best salmon river in Wales :-)

@Eric Ferguson perhaps with a saltwater trolling reel some 8 pound test and alot of luck and teamwork and well a stronger leader that gives more wiggle room in that last bit or as they typically come they are great for lakes and ponds pulling up sunfish and catfish just don't like the idea of catching a carp on one as they might burn out the tiny reel. yes that is probably the tuffest telescopic rod I've seen also on the last bit i tend to colapse the pole and manually handle the line to take the pole totaly out of that part of the equation a good stick or gloves is recommended. That one probably an over built 8 pound rod meant to work all day long on 8 pound test verry good for white bass and blue gills

Zach, I've had many telescoping poles. I love them for compact fishing/hiking in hard to reach places. I've given every single one of them to my ex'es and their kids teaching them how to fish. I know that sounds bad, but they were great learners...the kids, sadly, not the moms. I hope I made a difference. Always have a collapsible rod with you. It takes little space, but can be an amazing tool when needed. PS Zach, I love your comedic approach to teaching. Keep it up.

In my country, people are extremely prejudiced towards things that are out of the ordinary for them in their daily lives and seeing a person carrying a fishing rod in their hands generates looks of astonishment or comments that it is a program for people of low social status. They don't understand that fishing is a sport and that it can be practiced by everyone, even those who don't depend on fish to survive. Therefore, buying a telescopic rod of the best model available, for example. The DAIWA BBB and being able to hide it inside a backpack, avoids this entire unpleasant situation, in addition to being very practical and reliable. I love putting all my fishing gear in my backpack, taking the subway and going fishing without big bags in my hands.

Nice one zach spot on with the cheap reels that come in the combos definitely worth upgrading on the typical 20 or 30 $ combos . honestly its about technique when it comes to telescopic. Its not an ugly stick I got a feeling you can just about do as much with the small rig as with a full solid rig. granted the way you will do it will likely be different depending on what ya got to work with

You could pull Chris because the wheels help you and make the weight you need to move him less. That’s why it would be easier to pull Chris on a bike than it would be to lift him. But you’re right that a 10lb fish that you’re reeling in won’t feel like 10lbs. Because of the “weightlessness” the water gives things. Technically you would be able to move a whale with that rod if it wasn’t fighting you, it would just move SUUUUUUPER slow because you wouldn’t be able to pull very hard

Comparing my 7'6 St.Croix rods and Penn rods, they can handle any fish you throw at them, but can the telescopic rods handle them as well? Let's say a 25-40 inch striper? Or a 20 pound cat? I dont know, I just imagine telescopic rods being really fragile.
