Actually (I'm going to be a nerd here, so forgive me), they made three records: Marquee Moon in 1977, Adventure in 1978 and a self-titled record in 1992.

+surferosad Oh yeah I forgot about the '92 release! I'll have to give that one another listen!
@davidewing556 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric, definitely give their third album, just called Television another listen. It was recorded after they reformed about a decade later. There are some great songs on it. "Call Mr. Lee" has some really cool guitar parts. That would actually be a terrific lesson (hint, hint).

@@EricHaugenGuitar Well, three actually. They reformed in the early 90s and, while the resulting eponymous LP wasn't as classic as their first two 70s LPs, it was still superb.

Loving your channel!! Keep it up! Is there a video where you talk about your pedal board at all? Are you using any dirt on this or is that just your tweed pro turned up? Thanks!
@EricHaugenGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That crunch is actually coming from my Strymon Deco - it's a great pedal! I've shot a playlist with rig rundowns of most of the gear you see me use, including the tweed and the pedal board: kzbin.info/aero/PLnWUjmH5ZikFiGfthi2J2XDyWdorthYLD I hope that helps!

For the main rhythm part - you say it's Gmaj7 to D power chord. I've always played it as xx2032 to xx0232, just moving your index finger back and forth on the 2nd fret of the D and G strings. It's so simple and beautiful I feel like it's got to be right! What do you think? OK, pressing play again to learn all the fills and solos I definitely don't know how to play!

Anyone who might stumble upon this comment, who digs that "Adventure" guitar sound : Pick up an old Ampeg VT22. The same amp as the Ampeg B4s that Tom and Richard mostly used on Adventure, but with the speakers built in as a combo. Absolutely nails "Foxhole," "Ain't That Nothing," and "The Dream's Dream." And the live sound from Live at the Old Waldorf. They can be had for $700~ and will get you a tone like no other amp. (They weight 80 lbs, but it's a good tradeoff !) Gets pretty close to those Marquee Moon Super Reverb sounds, too. (Close enough for those guys on tour anyways!)

One of my favorite Television songs. I know how to play about 90% of everything on the first two albums - it's so awesome to finally learn the remaining 10%! Since it's been 3 long months since your last Television song...might I suggest "Guiding Light" (with "Days", the other loveliest Television song)? I always thought it was done in G with a capo on the 4th fret, but I recently saw a video of Jimmy Ripp doing it without a capo. Mind. Blown. Thanks again!
@EricHaugenGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Ooooh good idea! "Guiding Light" is a great choice. "Carried Away" would be cool to walkthrough also. So many beautiful choices!
@fredhamilton17017 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah - how did I forget "Carried Away"? Lots of beautiful little guitar flourishes throughout (though it's primarily guitar chords and keyboards). Amazing that the same guys that brought us See No Evil and Friction could also come up with songs so delicate and beautiful. Verlaine's "Song" from "Flash Light" is the culmination of all that for me - soft and hard, jam-packed with delicious riffs and an amazing solo, sweet and funny, and centered around one of the best lines in rock and roll: "When you wait...it is not hours...but some forgotten sense of time." I am so fond of TV!
@lilianl60027 жыл бұрын
You can also finish Richard LLoyd's mixolydian part on a chord like this : 10 7 6 0 x x It just adds the augmented fifth Verlaine is playing at the same time. Anyways, nice video thank you so much !
