I can think of at least 4 people I know very well who are bipolar. One of them is my sister. When I was younger and uneducated, I blamed her for a lot of things and assumed she knew better. I apologized to her later for judging her like that.

This is confusing and not very helpful. I know a lot of people who experience this "emotional roller-coaster", in fact I experience it. But I don't have bipolar disorder, I have autism. Descriptions of bipolar disorder seem so vague, they are failing to communicate to me what actually sets it apart from other behavior patterns or states of mind.

This is an inaccurate "video" - The highs and lows that people with bipolar experience are way higher and way lower than "normal." NAMI presents a bipolar "high" as the same as getting married and a "low" in response to the death of a loved one. These are normal experiences and should be treated as such. The true bipolar manias and depressions are so much more. This trivializes the disease and equally important, makes just about anyone feel bipolar. Perhaps this is the goal since NAMI takes big pharma money--let's diagnose everyone, then drug them.

You seem to be only outlining the negative aspects of the video and throwing the rest out the window. Bipolar is different for many people; I would know because I also suffer from it. For a sixty second video, it does a good job giving a simple explanation to people who do not have and can never fully understand this illness.

Getting married, having a baby, getting a promotion at work, etc, are normal reasons to be excited. Losing a loved on, job, or the present world conditions are reasons to be depressed. Bipolar, however, is a brain disorder with highs and lows. Mania isn't necessarily happiness. Bipolar symptoms are different for those who have it. While NAMI has information on mental illness, I have to believe that they are in cahoots with big pharma. If mental health conditions were cured, big pharma's profits would plummet and NAMI would be out of business. At least mental health conditions are treatable which is better than nothing.

@MICHELLE LIU you're missing my point of the joke. Most goth girls or emo girls self diagnose themselves as "depressed" or "bipolar" which is why I made this comment.
