I don’t remember what year it was but I saw the news of a man who killed his wife after drinking coffee. He kept telling the police that every time he drank coffee he felt different. I worked with a person with bi-polar and it is very difficult many people quit their job and so did I. I never understood why she was never told not to come back to work. She lied a lot and manipulated many people and things. I never mistreated her in any way no matter what she did to me and others but I couldn’t continue to work there

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 16. But what I do realize now that I'm older, lots of my lashing out & personality changes were definitely caused by my family in how the way they treated me. Now that I'm older & have separated myself from the negativity I see how much happiness has came into my life, I love it. Most of the time you don't need to take medication, all you have to do is separate yourself from all the negative energy.

@@The4a.mhi. I'll answer you to your question. I'm bipolar 1 since almost 15y. I've been on depakine but I don't recommend it because most ppl gain weight, and I mean A LOT. The best is lithium but... You must take blood tests for it's level at least once a month ( I do it every 2, but I'm not I'll since yesterday so my doc appointment are also every 2 months because of that). Lithium is also bad for thyroid so you must also take pills for that and blood tests. Those pills are annoying because you must take them before eating and other pills 1h or 0,5h before. You can take them 4h after last meal also. On lithium you eat also other pills like mood stabilizers, antipsychotics ( if you have them), anti anxiety pills if needed etc. It's very, very important to take pills to shield liver and vitamins like vit. D, omega 3,6,9. Also check vit. D levels in your blood. What to do? Sleep is veeeery important. Take pills at the same time and go to sleep, wake up at the same time no matter what. DO NOT allow yourself to sleep all day long because depression will be worse and will last longer. Observe yourself: what causes mania and depression. There is good app for android called emoods made for ppl with bipolar. You can adjust it to your need for example when you have short mania and depression episodes and add to this app bookmark how you feel in the morning, evening and afternoon. It's very nice app, you can show results to doctor and it'll help your sis to understand this illness and herself better. If your sis gained some weight already she can drink before eating water with lemon or apple vinegar ( it'll stop a little bit hunger after all the medication). Routine is important. Hobby also helps. In depression the minute she realizes she have suicidal thoughts she must switch to doing something funny ( comedy movies, happy music etc.) Those things helps in general in depression. She cannot stay in bed for 16 hours but... She won't be able to do it on her own. She MUST go for walks, even short ones everyday especially when depressed. Exercises also helps because they will give her endorphins ( happy hormones) and chocolate. If she drinks coffee she also must take pills for it because coffees can make depression worse. The are also antidepression lamps but you must be aware of fake ones and they can be quite costly. The higher mania the lower depression ( there's price for it). In mania ideally if someone would check her because she can have stupid ideas like quit school and start another one. But she can also have great ideas but too much of them so it'll be good if someone will be there for her and help her not only have the idea but also make it and finish it because finishing is hart because of all of those ideas and trust me they can be plenty of them. Once in night I had more than 50. I didn't make them reality because there was too many of them. In mania use this energy to make ideas reality ( not those stupid ones), make order after the haos of depression etc. Your family MUST be aware that not only suicidal thoughts are dangerous but also mixed state when you have depression and mania at the same time because during this time you want to kill yourself and don't feel fear at all and many ppl don't kill themselves because of the fear of pain. In this time you don't have it so it's very, very dangerous. She cannot drink and take drugs ( things will go way worse with it). She also must avoid energy drinks because they can cause mania. Itll be nice if she will find doctor who has access to mental hospital near her because if something ambulance will take her close to home so family can bring her stuff. She must ask other patients about opinion about this doctor also. I hope I gave you all answers you wanted. Ahh. I forgot: therapy. Also smartwatch helps a lot because it tracks sleep and activity which is very important during depression. There are apps which exchange steps into money that you can donate to good cause - will help with motivation. Also what can't sleep because of mania or hipomania use music for sleep. Read before bed and other things which helps with sleep. In depression avoid internet because it almost LITERALLY sucks life out of ppl. Edit: ( again) - ppl with mental health problems have focus and memory problems so she needs to work on that too. There are mnemo techniques, books with excersizes and apps.

"Being upset doesn't mean you have bipolar disorder." No one should make a diagnose without a careful research. Psyciatrists in Argentina would say you are depressed when you just need money to eat and be treated like a human. You cannot judge somone after being one day with them. Mental health needs better awareness. Also, having insomnia doesn't mean you are bipolar. It means you are living with high levels of stress

Take GABA supplements, omega oils and eat a healthy diet. Try and not consume too much caffeine or artificial sugars. No nicotine especially cigarettes. Ice cold water on the nerves that run behind your ears and down your neck will stop a manic episode. I can give you more info with stuff I’ve done to give me way more stability. I’ve done a lot of studying and I live without the use of Meds and am doing much better all around.

@@Nancy-ow9wy Yes I was very briefly on them but wasn’t consistent over the two month period I took them. The one I took worked very well but I was kind of afraid of potential side effects like it slowing me down in running or losing my hair. I have type 2 bipolar and I knew that a lot of my depression stemmed from a physical injury that I had for many years but was able to fix once I saved up the money. Brain structure even down to a cellular level is different in bipolar people. I think it can be managed with the right knowledge and many young people with the illness can avoid life changing mistakes if the stigma wasn’t there and people without the illness were also educated about it.

All of my life I've struggled with depression and anxiety. I also experience episodes of mania. I've always known that there was something going on with my mental health, but I never had the courage to reach out for help. Once I did, I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and everything made sense. I was actually relieved to know that I was right all along, but also, I felt ashamed because the stigma attached to mental health disorders. Working with my BHC has helped a lot. She helps me walk through the process of managing Bipolar disorder. She also is very open and understanding to my emotions of transitioning into this state of mind that accepts that I do have Bipolar Disorder. That, more than anything, helped me feel comfortable enough to continue reaching out for help. I can't stress enough, if you know there is something off with your mental health, find the courage within you to reach out for help. It may be hard and scary to do so, but it is a necessary step towards progress. I heard a lot of people make fun of Bipolar Disorder, and that needs to stop. Don't be ashamed of having a mental health disordered, instead, take the necessary steps toward managing them, and teach people who have narrow minds about the topic along the way.

As someone w Bipolar I, it is near impossible to sustain a "normal" life. I've ruined my life over a dozen times during manic episodes. I take my meds every day but there are certain triggers that set me off. I've tried so hard to stay stable (meds, therapy, treatment) but it's terrifying that I can go into a manic episode and not really know it until I come out of it. It's so heavy. And then there comes the depression...

Bipolar 2 here. Good on you for keeping consistent with the meds and treatment. If you aren't already exercising, become addicted to exercise. It has helped me so much. Start journaling. What are the mania triggers? Do they happen randomly or is there some correlation you can find? Could be eating unhealthy for a week gets you into an episode the next week (random example). When I have a manic episode, try to take advantage of the small "benefits"! Clean the house, go on a walk, and get together those clothes you've been meaning to donate to goodwill. Embrace the suck! All jokes aside, I hope you are doing well, I feel your pain, and just keep chugging along. Lost many friends, jobs, addiction issues, etc... myself but now use it as motivation to say Fu*k you to this illness by living a better life. Need to stop watching so much youtube though haha. Edit. Eat healthily and get quality sleep. Invest in your health. You got this 👍

It's sad that this isn't extremely common knowledge by now. Bipolar isn't a difficult illness to understand and yet casually drop the word mania in convo and people look at you like they're a new born baby deer. It takes all of 10 minutes of reading or watching a video to put two and two together and figure out what its about, people just want it out of sight and out of mind like they do with the homeless. It's going to be a long road for society to come to terms with mental illnesses while not blatantly discriminating and stigmatizing. I was diagnosed in 99 and can honestly tell you in many ways the psych field and general public have gone backward since then.

Thank you so much for this, my dad is JUST like this and it was such an eye opener. As a young child and even now, he would promise all these things to me but would never fulfill them. He would create these businesses too (i think like three or four) to the point where he would put so much money into a “business” that when he gives up, he would fall into the depression stage and wouldn’t provide for my brother and I. He would also (and still does) tell me that God spoke to him. For instance, once he was dating this one girl from a different country and when he went to meet her in person for the first time, he proposed to her (they only knew each other for two months) on a mountain (according to him) and claimed that God spoke to him in that moment. They never ended up getting married which is what i expected though. I love my dad of course but i just wanted to share my personal experiences and thank Medcircle for making this video.

His description of bipolar 1 is a 100% accurate representation of mania. My manic episodes historically have lasted for 3-6 months. It’s so exhilarating & I feel like I am capable of unlimited potential. Yes I have believed I need to save the world. I start new businesses & I take on simultaneous projects that I have no track record in completing. Then the mania ends. The magical neuro-chemical superpowers have depleted. The absolute terror now becomes realised that the original inspiration & motivation has actually been mostly delusional & grandiosity. It’s a living nightmare every time to experience the embarrassment & public humiliation that I create when having an episode. But the reality for me has been probably 20% mania versus 80% depression. Haunted by the destruction of a life in chaos. It’s a loneliness I wouldn’t wish on anyone. A vacuum & a void I can’t even describe. The depressive aspect of bipolarity is hard to survive. Thank you for the clarity in this video. I have stories to tell that can blow peoples minds with respect to my experiences in mania. Beautiful & magical, certainly not all bad or all delusional. But the most honest assessment is that this illness has devastated my life in every area possible over time. Medications are very effective for some people, but not for everyone, including myself. Sending my love to anyone else that suffers with bipolar disorder & also to the families & loved ones that have to carry the burden of a baffling reality they will never fully understand….❤️

My prayers for those people experiencing bipolarity. I am glad we´ve raised awareness about this disorder which I faced for 12 years. I almost jumped off a bridge one time, but didn´t think I was going to die. I learned to watch my sleep and stress, and my diet. I simplified my life and became very appreciative of what the Lord gave me. My journal helped me to keep track of my feelings, thoughts, and emotions. There are more things we can do to improve our mental health. It´s not easy, but is possible to overcome it and lead a healthy life. My last episode was in 1999 and sometimes I miss my manic episodes. I only was 20 years old when I thought I could be the president of my country or do so many things. God bless all the psychiatrist and psychologists!

I wasn’t diagnosed with bipolar disorder until I was 63. I lived and worked my life without knowing why I had manic and depressive symptoms. I went through two marriages unsuccessfully, I was dismissed from EVERY JOB I had. I hoarded a whole house full faced eviction Shunned by family and friends including church I now have meds to help even me out. My retirement, lonely. However, I spent most of my life alone, now I cannot go without meds

my impulsive actions, delusions of grandeur & mania were caused by my drug & alcohol consumption. i quit drinking & substances and no longer have those symptoms or mood swings. i kinda miss the manic phases because i felt like my life had purpose and i could accomplish anything, but i dont miss the depressed days that seemed to far outnumber the manic days.

Diagnosed BP2 in my late teens. Have tried countless meds, treatments..ect for 30 years with very little relief. You just come to a point where you live with it Side note...every med I tried put me right into mania. Out of control behavior and thoughts with ZERO thought or care of the consequences. Completely opposite of my normal personality.

Describing my husband. Suddenly his behaviors make sense. He described going days without sleep in elementary school! He had no idea this wasn't normal until I told him. He also thinks he is operating at his best during that time so he likes to kick it up a notch by drinking a pot of espresso strength coffee and using a can of dip per day. It is exhausting and brings me to the verge of divorce when he gets really bad.

Mental health isn't always about how we, ourselves feel. It's more often how we make others feel. If empathy is practiced, then it's not unreasonable to assure you're being your best self for one another. I'd break the ice and see a doctor, drag him along after you've established your situation.

Thanks a million for the explanation of this mental disorder! My 51 years old daughter is suffering from this disease for the past 11 years, almost every year she has to go back to the psychiatric wing at the hospital because she quits taking her meds and every year the hospital has to adjust her meds! This is all so frustrating because of her poor choice of decision but I still don’t know what to do to avoid her return to the hospital 😢

7 years ago I had a mental breakdown, was horrible. Was a blessing in disguise as I checked into the hospital. I'm #2 but since getting the medicine I so desperately needed, life is good. I now know how it feels to have a healthy brain, very grateful! I've never missed a dose, taking on time. I was misdiagnosed for years, happy to have this sorted out. I gotta say....it's annoying how Hollywood uses this disease as a joke. People see the movie and assume this is accurate behaviour, it saddens me. Great video ty.✌♥️🇨🇦

I wasn't diagnosed properly until I was 50. two divorces, 15+ work places, every relationship I ever had ruined. Sold every house I owned on a whim. I really don't like it when people say they are so "creative" when manic. I left my profession as a RN and became a hypnotherapist. That episode lasted 8 months and I was on medication. Even with family telling me I wasn't thinking straight I did it anyway. I feel age more than anything has taught me to question everything I think.

Thanks for sharing! I've been diagnosed with bipolar II, but it doesn't last "less than 4 days", as you told it after, there are moments lasting like a month or even more, mostly in depressive state. It's such an awfull thing (hard game sometimes to socialize, loosing friends, family sometimes...), I'm out of medication, my personal choice, and in fact medication was dampening all emotions and sucks out a lot of creativity, and the mind doesn't think as clear as we migh think while on it, loosing yourself slowly but surely. I'm feeling better now, without antipsychotics &Co. But that's just for me, sorry, I just wanted to point out the duration criteria.. All good people!

It is different for each person. He is correct in a lot of things. But there are so many different roads each persons mind takes. No one person is the same as the other. Depends on a lot of variables. Tbe beginning home life you had. Whether it is genetic in your family. Whether you had some sort of accident or brain damage. So many variables cone in to play. But first and formost, this is nothing to joke about. It is very, very, hard to live with. We need to show much more compassion. These people have a very hard life to get through. They need care and love and understanding. I know, I have bipolar II. With depression. Very rough. A constant struggle to make it through each day. With my wonderful meds my life has bern so much better for the last 40 years. Mine is a milder form, but I know people that nothing seems to help. So please show kindness and compassion. And stop joking or mislabeling people, it is not funny. Especially with the way society looks at this illness. This sickness cannot be helped. No one asks for this. You cannot just turn it on and off. God Bless.

@Rudy Campos wow, that seems like it would be utterly exhausting. I have a few questions if you don't mind and if I'm not being too intrusive? Did you know you were in a manic state during those 6 months for any or all of it, or do you rely on people letting you know how you are behaving? And what is it like when you come out of mania? Is it like a light switch and you are aware it's over all of a sudden or is it more gradual and unnoticeable? And are there triggers that can pull you in and out of mania?
