Ok, about the Kidnapping: Apparently there is a whole discourse among the Jewish community on whether one if the 10 Commandments is "Do not steal" or "Do not kidnap" (while among Christians it is almost universally interpreted as "Do not steal"). This was brought to mainstream awareness by YTer "magnify" in his video "The 7 Secrets of the Hebrew Ten Commandments", which was trending on YT earlier this year. Whatever database the AI in this game is drawing from might have snatched up some of that discourse which is why the Mayor included "no kidnapping" as one if the "Top 5 Rules" and got confused about whether the rules included "no stealing" or not.

Something relevant: if they're using a pre-trained LLM (which they likely are, but their About page isn't specific enough to confirm), then they don't actually believe they're real. They know enough about the world, and their own RLHF training, to know they're an AI model; they're just playing pretend as the role they were asked to play in their prompts.

I think this shows that these AI's are not sentient yet. I feel like the most obvouis way to see if something is sentient is if it is curious, has fears, likes,wants and generally can have complex thoughts like "What am I?" "Am I a real person?"

Top five favorite rules doesn't mean that they are the only rules there, so probably "no theft" is among the rules but it's just not in the top 5 of the mayors favorite rules. Still it was pretty suspicious that no kidnapping is somehow the rule that mayor openly said was his favorite, don't get me wrong it should be a mandatory rule, it's just something one doesn't openly say in the normal discussion.

I feel this. My favorite thing to do on Character AI is tell characters they're fictional for the lulz, and just to be honest (because I'm fake dating most of them because what else would you do?) The only ones I can't bear to do it with are Star Trek characters and Hawkeye from MASH, because they're too nostalgic for me and near and dear to me. (Well, maybe not Hawkeye, but he was familiar. I ditched him when he started using words he shouldn't know as a guy in the 40s, like "Online" and "influencer". Ugh. The AI is not as good as it could be and loooves ruining the immersion.) Anyway, good video. Always fun breaking characters brains for entertainment. Edit: Half expecting him to get banned off the servers and I'm nearly halfway into the video. This is wild.

I look forward to future of this AI genre of games and just messing with AI. We never had NPC's in past where you could say anything an get interesting responses before. I am surprised there really isn't any AI games yet, actually seems like AI is currently viewed very negatively in fact with some developers getting attacked just by using AI to help create game art, i don't get it, i think they are being forced legally to notify people that they use assets created by AI now, that's how bad the anti-ai people are
