Great stuff. I really hope both Telo and Aptera manage to get into production as the combination are great EV startups which are very efficient for their intended roles. I would love for this to be our 2 vehicles in 3 years.

I’m a reservation holder and I have to say honestly that your truck sounds too good to be true. Usually, when things are too good to be true, they never happen. Please know that you can under deliver on every metric and I will still happily buy one if you can keep the price affordable.

Really love the look and idea of the truck! My preorder deposit has already been placed and I look forward to seeing one closer! Please make sure that HVAC can handle cold climates - being able to walk out to my car in a -20 degree parking lot and be confident it will start(and keep me warm) is very valuable!

I think the thing is absolutely awesome, but a pickup is not ideal as a mini stealth camper Two short questions 1.Will the car also be available in Europe (Germany) 2. I saw the truck as a van in some pictures. Is that planned

Sitting in the same boat here, heavily interested. But no, not now, not in this format. Could not work. Just think about the missing front fender. You may not expose your tyres the way they do. Not saying it isn‘t possible, and quite contrary, I think it is ideal for European roadways, but they are also not talking about numbers. So this seems not like something intended for worldwide delivery just yet. However, I am thinking about importing one. Get a single registration (like imports often do, with right-hand-drive vehicles or oldtimers). Not suitable for big volumes, but singles could work.

Thank you for a great intro and quick history of the concept that was super cool! Seems like there are multiple questions even just in this thread about various things so I see interest in the concept. I would love to see Ep.2 to be a roadmap of what to expect over the next weeks/months/years while the concept becomes reality. Maybe future episodes can do deep dives into various features of the vehicle, or parts of the process. I am excited to see this company and concept get built out into a full production run!

Absolutely great and keep doing this. Would like to see each of the Team members do a "Here's what I'm working on!" over the shoulder presentation. Absolutely show components and assemblies where you're willing to. As close as you can to what it would be like if we were a Team member and today was our first day of working there, if you need a theme. Telo-graph your punches... Brought this up before, but ideal for some (me at least) would be knowing the whole truck backwards and forwards before it actually arrives. And please go through the Aria Team's contribution. What's their scope, how they're making the prototype parts, show some being fabricated, etc.. Other vendors as well, as they come into the fold. Very exciting!

Having been burned before by elio I will not be preordering. But I see this as a very exciting option. It could potentially be the perfect option for me. I currently own for myself 4 vehicles. I own a full size dodge ram with 4 doors for getting firewood and lumber and getting rid of my yard debris and all the other truck things. I also have a Velocter for my daily hour long commute to the Wind farm where I work. I also have a giant Ford Expedition that we use to haul 8 to nine people around to you group and we also use to pack full of groceries from costco, then it also does duty getting out in the mountains around us for camping trips. The last vehicle is a 87 Comanche I use to blast through the woods cleaning up illegal dump sites with the Gambler 500. I see this as a rig that with a canopy and a removable seat could do almost all of those things at least passably well. I did see some graphics of another seat, have you considered possibly a high top canopy for it? I would need that I live in Oregon and rain and snow are real here. I would love a tiny electric awd everything vehicle and I don’t feel like $50,000 is too much if it can replace all these other gas guzzling hunks of steel. Also have you considered 1st party lift kits. I know that may seem like a funny idea, but I don’t really do hard core offroading, the most I do is driving into these illegal dump areas in the national forests and a little extra clearance plus not having differentials to hang way down could really help.

Before pre-ordering this can we know what it's going to cost (approximately) and can I import to Canada without any issues?
@robertkirchner7981
@robertkirchner7981 Ай бұрын
To import a vehicle into Canada as an individual, the vehicle has to either be more than 15 years old, or on a list of vehicles eligible to be imported into Canada. Only the manufacturer can get a vehicle onto that list, and even on the list, it might require some modifications to be legal in Canada. So it's up to Telo whether or not you can import one into Canada.

Great, would love to keep seeing updates I have a question: why not get all the batteries under the truck bed and lower the vehicle height even more to reduce frontal area?
@artsmith103
@artsmith103 Ай бұрын
Truck users need clearance.
@David_Telo
@David_Telo Ай бұрын
Good question, there are a couple of reasons. Keeping the mass low in the vehicle helps a lot with handling, which is partially why it's down low. In the rear underneath the bed we have a large drive unit which takes up a lot of space. Additionally, our battery is only ~4 inches tall, so you really aren't sitting very high in the truck anyways.
@Swapnil638
@Swapnil638 Ай бұрын
@@artsmith103 I’m talking about reducing the frontal area of the truck body by removing the skateboard pack from under the cabin and placing it under the bed and behind the cabin instead. The ground clearance is a separate matter and can stay the same.
@Swapnil638
@Swapnil638 Ай бұрын
@@David_Telo That makes sense. Thanks for answering!
@Swapnil638
@Swapnil638 Ай бұрын
@@David_Telo Follow-up: couldn’t you make up for the imbalance of the pack being under the bed by putting the wheels all the way at the back (instead of the middle of the bed), and perhaps making the wheels larger? Moving them rearward would also make more room for the pack by pushing the rear drive unit backward. Even if you do have to double-stack the batteries as a result of the lesser surface area under the bed, you could raise the floor of the bed to make room underneath. Most of the bed-to-roof height goes unused most of the time. Sidewalks could be raised to compensate for that as well. Even if you eat into the rear window, that’s solvable with a rear view camera mirror. I know that the pack is just 4 in tall but I’m sure that some spacing will be required to mitigate the risk of pack penetration from obstacles. The Cybertruck pack is more than twice as tall as the actual battery cells as seen on Munro. I’m not an engineer and IDK if that frontal area reduction would be significant. I’m just thinking out ideas. P.S.: it’s not just under-bed area. You could stretch it all the way from the drive unit to the edge of the rear seat footwell under the rear seats.

I love these, but the price tag is hard to swallow looking at the fact that most auto makers are looking to drop the prices to about 30,000 for EV. Starting at the price of 50 K is just absurd and a complete turn off no matter how much technology goes into this. By the time this car comes out the EV market is going to be influence heavily by Chinese auto makers and US auto makers that are trying to compete. And you’re looking only at about a year away at most.
@bobhellman8676
@bobhellman8676 Ай бұрын
@someguytu Suggest you compare it to trucks or vehicles with off-road recreational capability. I have a Jeep JLU ($51K heavily optioned) and an F150 SuperCrew STX 4WD ($44K as a demo). So this is in the range of ICE counterparts that have similar capability. They also have reasonable startup aspirations, like build it profitably @ 5,000 units/year with a high percentage of commodity components and seasoned vendors for the custom parts. So among all of the vehicles and choices that people have in their segment, they have a great plan. It's not really about the "amount of technology", it's more about the utility. Things that last are actually about the simplicity. You can't put 4 x 8 sheets of plywood, or a skid of flooring, or a decent gas grill in a Bolt or a Model 3, this is about that.
@bobhellman8676
@bobhellman8676 Ай бұрын
For me, I see this doing what my Jeep JLU and F150 SuperCrew do. But, in another application, why is this not a much better platform than Tesla’s proposal for the RoboTaxi? Seats more, fits more luggage, easier to get in and out of, handles inclement weather, 2 ft. shorter, etc.. If I flew into Logan in the winter and summoned a RoboLyft or whatever, I would have no issue if this showed up to take several of us to downtown Boston. Tesla’s proposal would be “not running due to weather”.

What is your plan to deal with any obstacles that may present with the new USA government administration coming next year ? Speculation is that the president -elect is not a fan of EVs and green initiatives in general but Elon has the ear of the president and may garner favor for his EVs bud I don’t guess he will advocate for other EV manufacturers, after all, Elon has space rocket ships and satellites that may also garner him favor. A new regulatory commission will probably come also. What is your strategy to deal with these hurdles if they arise?

A starting price point of $50k seems a bit steep for the majority of Americans that may be interested in buying the TELO, especially in this economy, and considering that the new administration is threatening to throw out the $7500 tax credit for buying an EV. Big old American gas guzzling trucks will still be in favor with the new administration and probably the significant amount of voters they managed to garner during the election. Personally, I think green is the way to go with the Earth getting increasingly warmer and national weather disasters becoming more frequent.🤷
@bobhellman8676
@bobhellman8676 Ай бұрын
It's actually comparably priced to ICE vehicles (Jeep JLU and F150 SuperCrew 4WD, for example) that do the same job(s) and take up a whole bunch more space.
@wilty5
@wilty5 Ай бұрын
We’ll have to wait and see what the truck buying public has to say when/ if the TELO makes it to market, as for me, if the EV tax credit is gone, so am I, probably back to the big old gas guzzler trucks. Elon has positioned himself well to get favor for his EV lineup and it doesn’t hurt that he has rocket ships, satellites, robots, and neurolink , many things that can give the US an advantage in certain situations &.circumstances.

I am a fan of efficiency and applaud your efforts. I am curios, since most people that buy trucks do not actually need a truck (they want the image of a truck, and manufacturers want the margins of a truck), do you feel there is a market for a small truck like this. Follow up, will this platform allow for a small hatchback car? I should add, this is the type of truck that should replace every truck on an airport, and will probably serve the needs of 75% of overall fleet trucks.
