This explanation of the different types of anesthesia that are available is by far the best one on the Internet. Thank you so very much for taking your time to make this video and upload it to KZbin. You have answered so many questions that I had in a way that made it 100% understandable to everyone. I greatly appreciate it.

8 months ago I had a tooth pulled with local anesthesia. The next day I got very sick. It was not a dry socket. The malaise lasted 5 days with a persistent deep pain in my upper right back. I called 911 but they woukdnt take me to ER because of Covid. Both my DNP and dentist said this could not happen. I am now afraid to ever have anesthesia again.
@timw86492 жыл бұрын
I work in the field but have never heard of a response like this. Since the pain was limited to one area in the back, I am curious as to whether or not you may have been tense and pulled a muscle because of the tension and the position you happened to be in. Could this have caused a muscle spasm? The anatomy of the head and neck is complicated, with many muscles interwoven between the two. Would have been interesting to ask if deeply massaging the area brought on pain at the time. I know of nothing in any local that could have caused this. If you find out what it was, I'd be curious to know.

I was also feeling very sick through this whole ordeal. I could barely walk and could not sleep because of the malaise and upper back pain. It was like no muscle pain I've ever had. The same thing occurred a few years ago when I had local anesthesia for a infected finger. I was sick for 6 days. I did not sleep for most of that time and had strange hallucinations during the day. I could barely move and felt like I was dying.

@@anita2318 this happened twice in 5 years. The other time was local anesthesia for finger surgery. That time I was sick for a week. The only thing that it might be is epinephrine. But they use so little and I've never had an issue with it before. It's still up in the air. My Dr. wants me to see a psychiatrist.

What about anesthesia for patients with complex health issues I have heart palpitations due to low iron and had a bad reaction to an injection administered during an extraction two years ago chest throbbing a day and a half after the extraction. No one could ever tell me what that was. Any advice prior to my next oral surgery will help greatly . Should I get clearance from hematologist and or cardiologist?

i thought i was the only one with this issue! i got a molar pulled with just local anesthetic and i instantly started to sweat and i couldn’t breathe and then i passed out! there weren’t any DAs in the room with me after it was administered so i was in the chair trying to figure it out all by myself!!! when i woke up, the DA and the dentist came back in. i explained to them what happened and they were like “oh are you okay now?” and i said i guess and then they just continued to work. i used to love the dentist but it ruined it for me and now i’m terrified of getting my mouth numbed
@timw86492 жыл бұрын
@@hayleygt9883 I had a similar reaction and was told that it meant I was sensitive to the epinephrine in the local. It will cause you to sweat and some heart fluttering normally, but for people like you and I, it has a more extreme effect. It will lower your blood pressure (hence the light-headedness) and cause temporary hypotension. The good news is, you can request a local that does not contain epi, such as mepivaine, and will not get that effect on the heart. Every dentist should have a supply of non-epi locals in their supply.

Hello doctor. I am a dental student. I am contemplating specializing in either dental anesthesia or oral maxillofacial radiology. I am concerned that since the profession has done in the past without these two specializations, they may not be financially viable. Do you think specializing in either radiology or anesthesiology will pay?
@Austin-cn5xd4 жыл бұрын
anesthesiology will pay if you either practice in a very affluent area or in cities where many dentist may need your services OR you are willing to be a traveling dentist. Otherwise, it will not pay out. Radiology is very interesting and worth doing if you love it enough but that specialty is not making dentists rich

@@Pooh2kute89 Do yourself a favor and have the twilight sleep. Ask for non-epi locals so your heart rate will not be affected. By all means, try to avoid doing them all at once. One side at a time and you'll sail through. If you choose to be awake, bring a nice headset with you with some good music. It's not a painful procedure, but the sounds can be intimidating. Dear Amber, I can't really advise you one way or another because I haven't clinically seen what's going or nor have I seen an xray. I advise that you come in to see us for a free consultation, or find a local oral surgeon in you area who can do one. That way, the situation can be properly evaluated before any recommendations are made.

Amber, if your Oral Surgeon determined that you are a good candidate (from medical stand point) to be put a sleeps during a procedure, you can chose which way to go. You can get it done under IV sedation (being a sleep during procedure) or with laughing gas, or just under local.
