hello. i have kind of the same project for color detection, using a lcd i2c display and a fingerprint sensor for selenoid lock. When i power supply the project from external source (not the usb to laptop for arduino) my lcd i2c display doesn't show data anymore. It just powers on the screen blue but doesn't show any data... Do you might know any potential fix?

Yes you can use Nano...you just have to select depend on which pin you use in Nano.Should be no problem.
