This is such an informative and interesting video. I'm in the UK, and I've planted some rye in my back garden for the first time this year, as I have a new place. Much appreciated, and big respect from England. 👍🙂

This is the perfect video for me. I need to know how to plant grass seed in 100 percent shade. I guess I plant based on temp and not sunlight.

Just what I was curious about, since I am planting perennial rye this Spring. Thanks!

This video is exactly what I needed! I planted a bunch of new grass last weekend and we had lows of about 39 and highs in the 60s. I was afraid I might've done it too early and killed the seed, but looks like I just need to give it a few more days.

How did it go?
@jeoffbenzos49598 ай бұрын
@@tarneyaulakh4759 the yard that I covered in peat moss immediately after seeding is growing really well but it did take longer than expected to germinate. The 2 that I didn’t cover are barely starting to germinate after 2.5 weeks

Very interesting. I always wondered about how to manage spring seeding and pre-m. 15000 sf TTTF/KBG NE PA. Our lawn is in great shape. I’ve been following LCN’s e- book for 2 years now. Just have a couple abused areas to reseed in spring, only 10sf . Thanks I appreciate your videos.

Thanks so much for info that I was only guessing at. Every state is different so thanks for the controlled temperature experiment.

How, very cool! I'm doing a perennial ryegrass reno next spring. I already killed my grass this fall. I live in the PNW, hoping for the best.

How’d it turn out?

I’m in southwest Washington and I’m in the same boat. Day 9 with just a little germination so far. 100% prg from GCI

@@PNWLawnGuy I'm in Central WA using 50% Ryan Knorr PRG, 50% KBG (Blue Heat) from GCI. Let me know when you do you first mow. Good Luck to you Marc.

It's growing like all hell in Florida. Took 4 days even in freezing temperatures but in the day it does get to 60f plus

Was the purpose of the inverted plastic cup for protection (debris-free) or moisture retention or ?
@PNWLawnGuy Жыл бұрын
Very interesting video. Thanks. I wonder if the greenhouse effect of the cup made the soil a little warmer than the actual air temperature?
@TurfMechanic Жыл бұрын
hmm, that's something I never thought of but I'd guess no because most cups were in either stable temps or in either shade or full dark...but nevertheless, I haven't considered if it was possible the cups allowed soil temps to stay higher than the stable air temps around them...possibly soil biology kept temps higher...maybe.

Brian... Im in Michigan watching ground temps since i seeded lawn on April 21st. (It is averging 54.5) Did you check your soil temps while doing this test?

Very cool and informative video.. time to buy some seed
@TurfMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Isaac! That was a long and challenging video to make so I appreciate your comments. It also shows me that early spring seeding of PR can be done at low temps if you are patient. I'll be doing a seeding video based on info learned in this project in another few weeks. Hope you are able to catch that.

Is rye grass seeds easy to grow
@JW773 жыл бұрын
Wow crawlspace. I guess that's enough proof that the seeds don't need any sunlight to germinate.
@TurfMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Haha, yeah but in hindsight I kept them in the crawl space a couple days too long after they germinated. Like vegetable seedlings that germinate indoors these grass seedlings got really leggy really quickly and never got as strong as the other seedlings. Since it was January and freezing outside I wasn't able to get them into enough sun for them to toughen up. Eventually I let them die - February I think. They definitely don't need sun to germinate but they do need it right after germination to put on healthy growth.
@team_1j_jont-1793 жыл бұрын
So that is germinating with zero sunlight?? Very interesting
@TurfMechanic3 жыл бұрын
Yep, the stuff under the house was as close to pitch black as possible at a stable 55 degrees - it germinated and then grew for a couple days like that before I brought it next to my cracked garage door so it could get a touch of light. It was the leggiest of the seedlings but it worked.
