It's only true at the start. At some point if you want to have lots of different decks the mythics become the bottleneck.

I've been running 2 field of ruin and 2 bonder's enclave instead of the zhalfirin void, and it's been working pretty well. Basically the same main deck except 1 shadow spear and 1 unbreakable formation over the 2 make a stand. went from silver to platinum 2 VERY quickly. Love this deck

suggestion for Arena Budget rules - in Magic duels 2015 there was a restriction of 1 of any mythic, 2 of a rare and 3 or an uncommon - this if probably more appropriate for a Budget ( or F2P) style as one of a the higher rarities is easier to come by from random openings or draft than a playset. - or this could be the "ultra budget" upping each tier by one for a normal budget build

I like playing some Historic. I don't even play standard anymore. Never been a fan of Standard. I would be perfectly fine if you switched all Standard videoes to Historic. :)

Seth: Winota in Historic is not yet proven to be too strong, the data of a tournament is too little to say anything about it. People did not come prepared for that matchup, that is it. Plus, it is super easy to interact with, because winota dies to many doom blades: assassins trophy, redcap melee, noxious grasp, fry, dire tactics, etc., which are removal spells you don't mind playing in the main deck. It is a card like splinter twin which encourages interaction, and that is a good thing. Midrange and control decks can do well against it. (I wanted to say this but I don't have twitter)

Hey Sartorius! We'll see what happens with Winota. What I have found playing against the deck is that if you leave up removal for Winota every turn you likely lose to the rest of the deck (Adanto Vanguards, etc) but if you don't leave up removal you lose to Winota. I think that removal is a good answer (although I'm not sure about things like Redcap Melee, Noxious Grasp and Fry as main deck cards), but it's also not as simply as "play some removal and you beat Winota," at least in my experience.

@@MTGGoldfish of course you don't win by just using removal, otherwise it wouldn't be so good. If you are an aggro deck you can gum up the board to block the other creatures, or if you are a control deck you can play sweepers (adanto makes it more difficult but still not oppressive). Of course the deck forces other mediocre decks out of the format, but this is what good tier decks do. The point is whether a good deck can be interacted via removal and not just counterspells/discard spells (Iike inverter in pioneer, which makes it so obnoxious). Then if it is too good or consistent for other decks to keep up, then it is worth a ban. But the point I am making is that the gameplay it creates is good for the game, because it makes interactive decks playable and it forces other aggro and combo decks to interact as well.

Still not sold on Historic. The recent drop of cards just seemed to be random bombs like Obliterator or Ulamog which fit in a format like Modern where people are usually playing the right removal for them (Path) but seem out of place in Historic. And I'm not sure how much long term popularity Historic will have apart from with people that just want to play Arena and want something more varied than Standard, especially when we can all go back to playing Modern and Pioneer in paper again

@@MTGGoldfish Dylan is talking more specifically about "gg I lose", but then not conceding the game. Basically, they force you to go through the motions, even though they themselves have told you "you win". What you're talking about is people being cocky with the chat function, although sometimes I've seen opponents turn 1 'good game' after mulliganing a few times to indicate "I probably can't win this, but we'll see". Ah the subtleties of arena chat.

MTGGoldfish Turn 3 Goblin Warchief into Turn 4 Matron fetching and playing Trashmaster can just lock artifacts out. One upside is the deck needs to sac goblins for a couple things and killing their own goblins bought me time to rebuild. The deck needs more card draw if it doesn’t land a turn 3 Tempered Steel you’re playing top deck Roulette. All That Glitters tends to be a one shot attack without protection elements and it’s generally killed by your next turn. We need a good haste enabler (Crashing Drawbridge might work), more card advantage (Treasure Map seems decent), and maybe some number of God’s Willing. It was cool to get a response on my comment :) Thanks!

I believe just going in an unranked match with a historic deck automatically matches you with another unranked historic player. Doesn't say it anywhere but I think it works

You just attempt to play a regular unranked game like you would for Standard, but using a Historic list. That’s been a thing pretty much the whole time. The permanent Historic Ranked queue, however, is brand new

I appreciate the feedback! My main focus is formats that work in paper (Standard, Modern, Pioneer, etc). This week felt like a good one to try new things because of the bannings/companion changes in other formats.
