I looked up this story online and for those of you saying that the police officer should be sued for his actions that day that he allowed the contractor to steal the items from the home owner, well you got our wish, he was sued along side the police department and the contractor. The city is trying to get out of the lawsuit on behalf of the police department but NOT the police officer because he went against policy so the city is hanging out to dry. I can not find anything else as to the results of what happened.

I own a body shop , I've been open for almost 16 years and I can truly say and mean it with every fiber of my being that no one has ever left my shop pissed or unhappy, even if I have to lose money on something I'll make the customer feel he got what he came for and plus some. Doing people right, using quality materials and doing it at a fair price has gave me the opportunity to choose whom I do work for, that has really kept me and mine from dealing with a ton of headaches I see at other shops in my area. Nothing beats professionalism.

@ryeckley72676 жыл бұрын
Yep, those amateur mistakes will ruin a reputation in a short time. To the contractor, you don’t have to be there the whole time but your the expert, it’s easy for you, you have to know where the other workers are weak, show up at the job and train and correct the details, it’s called being a supervisor, the end result is a reflection of your skill level. I’ve never built a garage, but I know construction and I understand the difference between plumb and level-and I know I can take a group of half ass carpenters and build a garage with no mistakes, it’s quality control and people control, that’s the business.
@seanwhite5066 жыл бұрын
Not sure who did foundation however when the bottom plate was shimmed it was done so on to make the tails line so that facia was straight...If all he did was the framing then he did the right thing...however if he also did the foundation (stem wall) because clearly it was not level them not a good job at all...I have framed homes for 27 years and have had to make adjustments due to concrete being out of level...The stud not being flush is due to shear going on and nailed while wall was laying and failed to smack the bottom plate...From what I saw terrible job not because of the workmanship but that is not how professional contractors speak to customers.

Have that power hungry cop arrested for assisting in a robbery with threat to kidnap the owner if he tried to keep his property.
@tahwnikcufos6 жыл бұрын
If the police aren't arresting anyone, they only have the right to maintain order, i.e. make the contractor leave, NOT make the home owner go inside, and let the contractor do whatever... I question the relationship between the cop and contractor.
@ebill666 жыл бұрын
tahwnikcufos is correct. The issue at hand was a civil matter. Presumably the materials the contractor was there to take away were on the clients property. The client should have trespassed the contractor right then and there, and if the cop on hand was not willing to enforce the home owner's request (remove the contractor from the property), a supervisor should have been requested. From a police standpoint, ownership of the materials should have been a matter for the courts, and the property should have remained where it was. This was essentially theft by the contractor assisted by a cop (or cops, who I also presume had ties to the contractor.) Yes cops often side with businesses (shoplifting situations, etc.), but it's usually on business premises... not a random private property they have zero insight into.
@bricktop62166 жыл бұрын

Allyn Howell I'm aware that is not what the man said. I used that as an example. The contractor did labor and built most of the garage. That old man is trying to screw the builder. A building inspector was going to have to see this to make sure it's up to standard. If something wasn't right the inspector would say so and the builder would have to fix it. Lots of things might look wrong to someone who doesn't do construction but it might be just fine and if an inspector approves it that means it's fine.

My wife is from C.A., brought her up to a very rural area. She is beautiful and very book smart but easily tricked. I was away on business when she hired a licensed contractor (husband to one of her workers at her vet clinic) to replace the steps to the back door. $800 was all he was going to charge, I said if she would wait till I got home, I'd do it myself but she went ahead with the contractor anyway. She paid upfront, signed contract and got building permit. I got home week and a half later, wife was getting frustrated that contractor had cashed check but still hadn't rebuilt the steps. I said you hired him, you can figure it out but if he gives you problems, I'll deal with him. After another week an a half and many phone calls, he showed up when neither of us was home. Built the 'steps' and left a nasty note on door saying 'your damn steps are done so quit harassing my wife'. My wife got home, found note, called me upset telling me the steps were not what they talked about. I'm not happy when the wife gets upset so I came home. I checked the steps out first thing and could see why she was upset. He basically built a wooden pallet then a smaller wooden pallet on top screwed down with 2 dry wall screws. It wasn't even secured to the deck. Our bank canceled the check even though it had been cashed 2 weeks earlier, and Sharon filed a complaint with local business association and left a bad review on his website. All hell broke loose. He called yelling and screaming, I answered the phone so it was a short conversation. His wife quit the clinic. They ended up taking us to court but we had pictures and the judge agreed with us and ruled in our favor. Then our mailbox got ripped out, a box of roofing nails was dumped in our driveway and we got word he was badmouthing us all over (small town). I ended up having to have to show up at one of his top sights and embarrassed him in front of his crew and customers. I stayed civil as long as I could, a lot longer then I normally would have but finally let go of my temper. He left us alone after that though his wife to this day is still badmouthing us. She is a nutjob so we really don't get bothered by it.

A cop has no authority to retrieve belongings from a private residence, It's a civil matter not criminal. How do I know this? My ex put a restraining order on me and asked the judge for a officers assistance to look for things she might have left in my house.

If the homeowner thinks that the contractor did a shoddy job and then took the shoddy materials, why would the homeowner want said shoddy materials back?

When the contractor said he had no credit to buy materials the homeowner should have walked away. From the work they showed it was very bad.

I don't have much sympathy for a homeowner that hires a contractor that can't even afford to purchase the building materials for the job. That would be a huge red flag. That contractor had some balls to go steal the building materials and to take a (crooked) cop with him.

A couple of things here. First, the homeowner should have ran when the contractor said he didn’t have the money or credit to buy materials, Big red flag. As far as that contractor, what an idiot. He showed up late for such an important meeting, I would be surprised if he showed up to complete the job. Him taking the materials knowing the customer paid for them show how ignorant he is. Good grief, he gives the good contractors a very bad look.

the contractor should have just filed a lien against the house if he's owed anything, such as labor for work performed so far.
