Hello. Thanks for your video. I have a project that has a lot of audio and MIDI items in it and that I composed without any particular tempro. Now I want to adjust the measures to fit what I composed but when I start to change the tempo and measures the MIDI items stretch and I don't want that. I want basically that all the items of the entire proyect remain unchanged regardless any change that I could make in the tempo and/or meausures. Please could you give me a hint on how to do that ? Thanks in advance !!!

Nice. It’s so cool that Reaper lets you customize so much. What makes sense for me may not make sense for you. My tempo mapping workflow is completely different, almost like I'm using a different DAW. I use some custom cycle actions and get the bulk of it done with one key. It works great for drums, but probably wouldn't work so well on full mixes. I’m going to have to make a hybrid of yours and mine ;-)

Cool I'd love to see yours! Recording this I realized how many different ways there is to do tempo which is why I'm doing a part two, but last year I did another video on this and that method is probably how you do it or closer to it at least!

@@IDDQDSound Let me see if I can figure out how to export a cycle action and I'll send it to you. I'm sure it's easy, I've just never done it before.

Arya, does the Reaper temp map work differently for audio than it does for MIDI? I used the temp map to do a simple ritarde at the end of a song (the project is all imported .wav files). The metronome tempo and the BPM readout changed as expected, but the audio playback never changed tempo. The only way I got it to work was by selecting all items, then in Media Item Properties, for the Item Timebase, I selected "Beats (auto-stretch at tempo changes)." This doesn't seem right to me. It worked, so I'm not complaining, but I think I may be missing a simpler solution. In all of your timebase/tempo-related videos, when you create a tempo map, your song immediately follows the tempo changes. I must be missing something.

This is a great question I'll feature on the next AMA! Reaper is a bit quirky when it comes to linear tempo ramps. If your timebase is beats and you change the tempo suddenly, that is reflected, but yeah for gradual tempo changes you have to change it. It also matters in which order you do things. For example, if you first set a tempo map with the item already on there, it doesn't automatically change, but if you trim the item back and extend it again, on the second go you will see it change rate on the tempo ramp. Does that make sense? With a video I can demo this better!

@@IDDQDSound Love to see a tutorial on this. One of the most basic tempo changes in pop music in the ritarde at the end of a song. I would love to see how that is done in a project with a mix of audio and midi tracks. Another project involved a cover of an old 70's Spinners tune ("Could It Be I'm Falling In Love"...I know...you're too young). The original version has a gradual tempo increase throughout the song. It starts at around 100 BPM and ends at around 106 BPM. This type of "natural speed up" was fairly common for records in the 60's and 70's, and it actually adds excitement to the song. I would love to see how a gradual tempo increase throughout a song would be accomplished in Reaper (with a natural feel). Thanks, Arya.

hi, sometimes i would like to be able to mute the tempo map track, but there does'nt seem to be an option, is there a work around?
@IDDQDSound
@IDDQDSound 2 жыл бұрын
Heyy! Two options there: -in the main toolbar, right click on the metronome icon and intick the 'enable metronome' box. OR -go to insert>click track and a track will be made for you that represents the metronome, and you can mute it like any other track!

can I do this to songs were I like the groove and basically tempo map everything and import the tempo map to my project so that everything that is alligned to the grid have the exact groove of the song ?
@IDDQDSound
@IDDQDSound 3 жыл бұрын
Hey MZ! Yes that's possible! The best way to export the tempo map is to just make a midi item the length of the entire map. For safety put one note at the beginning and one note at the end of it, and then import the midi file into your project, and make sure to tick the box saying to import the midi map. Before you do this also make sure to choose the right timebase. I covered these in a video and the link is in the description of this video if you wanna check them out & lemme know if you had any more questions!
