The Finis Tempo Trainer is an awesome device that helps all levels of swimmer improve their stroke.
The Tempo Trainer has 3 Modes.
1. Secs per stroke
2. Pace timer / clock
3. Stroke rate (strokes per min)
For this clip we use Mode 1 and shift from 1.50 to 1.00 secs/stroke. The swimmer hears an 'audible' beep and must maintain the same stroke rhythm.
Just a quick demo to introduce some simple concepts of how speed/pace is constructed.
Tempo x SPL = Stroking time ( I would add a 3 -4 s push off time to get total time)
In this demo, we talk about the increased drag effect, as the body moves quicker through the water. The swimmers must problem solve how to maintain SPL, as tempo increase's. Improving streamlining, adding more power to the catch, a tighter flick of the foot in the kick..... help of off set drag increase, and maintain pace.
