Cool! The more radios we have to play with, the better, so bring it on Xiegu and others. I own an IC-705 and a Lab599 TX-500, and I love that Xiegu is coming out with more radios. You'll get no snobbery from me ; it's all about innovation and having fun.

@@sportbikeguy9875 That would be pretty sweet - if they were smart, they'd make a "backpack" type setup so you could add on expansion modules - snap on larger full power battery, snap on 2/70 or SHF, snap on 20,50,100w amps... publish the specs and let others join in the fun of making more backpacks.

The best receivers I have had for shortwave and VHF are the ones that had the Msi001 chip. Perhaps this is helped by the fact that it is a chip made of silicon-germanium.

Great Video thanks a lot :-). I like my X6100, the X6200 is a little too expensive, after tax. I think they decided to reduce the Output Power a little bit, as far as i know, some people used FT8 on the X6100 with max output and destroyed the finals. To prefent overheating, they reduced the Output of the X6200 which comes with FT8.

Looks very neat and if I didn't have a 705 and was looking for a portable radio it would certainly be high on the short list. The built in WFView server and built in FT8 decode have a lot of potential both at home and for portable operation (Make it easier to operate FT8 on a phone/tablet or craptop). The built in sound card for USB to PC is very nice (705 has the same and it makes everything dead simple) The way you change settings is the number one thing I don't like about it. Seems clunky compared to the 705.

I have read somewhere that 10 watts is all many Chinese radios are allowed to have, but as it is for a worldwide market they might have hidden a feature to get around commy regs. Wishful thinking maybe. For the price and lack of at least ten watts may turn away awful lot of people.

Thats a hard question. Xiegu has a history of releasing radios that have bugs and are missing features and the then fixing them after a few rounds of sales. I can't predict what Xiegu will create/fix, but the 6100's clock started a while back and will likely run out soon. While the 6200's clock is just getting started. I'd first start with defining a use/mission for this radio - Linux hacking? Portable ops? Pretty toy to get others interested in the hobby? And then see which one fits that mission.

Just bought a second user uSDX QRP rig for £90 - much more my price range. Works well and gives a true 10 watts on meter. Cant help but feel that the X range is twice the price it should be ?

Thanks for the review. I was interested in this radio when it was announced. Not anymore and seems over priced. Only see this for a backpacking qrp option. To be fair that seems what it was designed for (assumption). I was waiting to be sure, but will end up getting a 710 instead. More bang/buck and better performance/features.

Less power (a bit), still no touchscreen, yet more expensive! If it had 2/70 I'd buy it tomorrow, but I don't see it's an upgrade over the 6100 ATM.

They may have reduced output for regulation reasons. Most of the radios from China suffer from a lack of spur and harmonics suppression.

So unless the receiver audio is significantly better and the frontend overloading issue has been resolved I can only really consider it a downgrade from the x6100. But hey, maybe that FPGA means that it can do some more fancy DSP magic. Not sure if that’s worth the $200 price increase when that’s basically the price of a FT-710…

if you set the language to chinese, does the language settings tab display in english? if it does then that's a nice touch for the reasons you said - we've all had that friend or sibling who has set your phone language to korean and leaves you digging around online for how to change it back.
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 7 ай бұрын
I just pulled this out and tested it - it does switch everything to chinese and the language button is in english... but you'd have to know where it is to turn it back since its one (chinese) menu down, then select english then pick one (chinese) button to change it back.

Heh - I once (1990) was contracting in a machine shop where a big brand-new CNC machining center had just been brought in and installed, but not yet commisioned to start machining. I was on night-shift and had a few minutes to spare, so I went and played around with the control screen, and naughtily set the operating language to Norwegian and left it like that. The next evening, the shop foreman asked me if I had touched the machine and I owned up to my playing around - he just laughed and said it had caused some head-scratching during the day when the techs were trying to commission the machine. But I didn't get fired!

I'm interested in exploring that 0.1w power output for driving transverters.... Does this stop at 30MHz, or does it go up to 54MHz? I ask because I have an old 220 MHz to 28MHz transverter that is useless unless I can find a radio that I can convince into transmitting at extremely low power in the 30-33MHz area 😅
@temporarilyoffline
@temporarilyoffline 7 ай бұрын
It says HF/50, so it should. I am not sure about testing the power output or not since this is a prototype. There was speculation about transverters in the beginning, but that could have been smoke and mirrors.

I agree, it's very weird. It's the way the rotary encoder is setup. It's like it takes 2 clicks to make 1 move ... It's not so much "lag" as it's just unexpected. I'm sure one would get used to it fast enough.
