I don’t know why they just didn’t start in the middle and build towards the sides of the river. That would have eliminated this connection problem. Let me know if you need any more advice.

O I don't know maybe it's because the main cement supports are on land and they have to come out of that way because there's no supports in the water

Believe it or not, once the the bridge was connected it officially became an international border crossing and CBP from both sides are now strictly monitoring activities on the bridge. I doubt if any of the steelworkers are going risk their job for that.

Is there anyone here who can explain to me HOW they brought the two sides to the same elevation since one side was lower. I retired from bridge erection long before the cable stayed bridge design and I am curious how it was accomplished since there seems to be no videos out there showing this crucial step. Thanks

I wonder why they put in temporary bridge connections. I know that it was generally to help with alignment. But they couldn't align it with the permanent connections?

You need to align it BEFORE bolting it up

Also….they use these temp pieces to push or pull the two sides and then they MEASURE for the real piece and then build it and then install it

@@benitopelaez2417 ACTUALLY…… they pull or push and then because they have multiple connection points at each end….. They connect and use torque force to raise or lower a respective side to be in alignment with the other side.

As the title says these are TEMPORARY braces. Temporary means they will be removed.

The only expansion joints are on the land side where the bridge "ends" connect to the roadway.
