Awesome video thank you! You talk quite a bit about heavy and light sleepers, can you please define each in pounds so I can determine which one I am. I'm 195 pounds.
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hi Mikey -- This is Mike here. First, FWIW you and I are basically the same weight. Second, we think of weight in 4 simple categories -- Light (100-150), Average (150-200), Above Average (200-250), and Heavy (250+). So if I say "heavy people", I'm generally talking about that last category. That said, in the videos, I tend to speak about weight on both an absolute and relative basis. More often than not, I say "heavier" -- this is because many of these attributes are on a spectrum. So the heavier you are, the more you will experience the effect I am describing. In these cases, it might apply to you also, just to a much lesser degree than someone in the last category. I hope that helps clarify.

What's the softest mattress that Tempur-Pedic makes? The best for a side sleeper? Thanks!
@goodbed6 ай бұрын
Hi there, here are all of the Tempur models that we rated as softer than Medium (5). As you can see, there are a few that are Medium-Soft (6), and two that are Soft (7): www.goodbed.com/mattress-models/?softness=6&softness=7&softness=8&softness=9&b=tempur-pedic Of the two softest, the ProAdapt Soft and the LuxeAdapt Soft, they are close enough to be classified the same, however the LuxeAdapt is a little softer than the ProAdapt (about 0.3 points on our rating scale) and also has slightly deeper cushioning (more conformance, etc.). In terms of which would be best for side sleepers, all of the ones in that list above will generally work well for side sleepers from both a spinal alignment and pressure relief standpoint. Our ratings vary a bit by weight, but overall the LuxeAdapt is the strongest performer across the board. Beyond that though, picking which one is best for you will depend the other characteristics of the mattress. The easiest thing is simply to look at our side by side comparison of these four models (I excluded the Active Breeze, since that one has a different value proposition at a very different price point), which I created for you here: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=tempur-luxeadapt-soft&mod=tempur-pro-adapt-soft&mod=tempur-luxeadapt-medium-hybrid&mod=tempur-proadapt-medium-hybrid The LuxeAdapt Soft is on the far left and the ProAdapt Soft is next to it, since those are the two that seem like the two best finalists for you. I hope that's helpful.

Great video! Subscribed...I'm in market for new bed and went to Tempur-pedic today. Would you recommend the ProBreeze medium for a heavier stomach sleeper since you don't recommend the LuxeBreeze Firm for stomach sleepers?
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hi Bill -- Thanks for your question. For a heavier stomach sleeper, we'd rate the ProBreeze Medium as pretty similar to the LuxeBreeze Firm -- we rate both as either "OK" or "Pretty Good" on this front. This is to say that either could work, but neither would be ideal in the grand scheme of mattresses. Based on our assessments, either the LuxeAdapt Firm or ProAdapt Firm would be a bit better from a spinal alignment standpoint for a heavier stomach sleeper, but obviously neither would have the Breeze features. That said, the LuxeBreeze Firm and ProBreeze Medium (in that order) would be the two best Breeze models for a heavier stomach sleeper. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, it is difficult to make specific recommendations for scenarios like this, but our best guess would be that a pocketed coil or gentle innerspring would allow for more conformance around your shoulder and might help. If this were combined with more pressure-relieving foams on the top of the mattress, it should be a powerful combination for avoiding the pressure points that lead to the type of pain and loss of circulation that you are experiencing. Are you able to get to a store to try out a few models?

These are made of slightly different foams with different amounts of heat-mitigating materials. Hmmm. Three months is about on the edge for expected break-in with a Tempur product. You might try gently crawling on the mattress every night for a week or two to see if that helps? If not, then the Luxebreeze Medium Hybrid may be a better option. TheLuxebreeze Soft is not a hybrid, so it'll still feel differently than the ProBreeze Hybrid, and we also didn't find it to be much softer (if any) versus the ProBreeze Medium Hybrid. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Off-gassing is a really frustrating thing that seems to vary dramatically from model to model. We generally think that Tempur makes some of the best memory foam in the business (and that should mean less off-gassing), but it's tough to say for certain if it'll be definitively better than an iSeries. That said, I wouldn't expect it to still smell strongly after six months, no.

I have the LuxeAdapt firm and I like it, but wondering if it might lose support over time and if the firmness of the LuxeBreeze makes it more durable.
@goodbed2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the comment. When we consider durability, the key thing to look at is foam density - not firmness - and Tempur-Pedic's foams in general rate very highly in this regard. Add to that a best-in-class 3/4" body impression warranty, and we have high confidence in their overall durability, regardless of model. That said, ALL mattress will get softer over years, but we're talking years.

Thinking of buying this and putting eight sleep pod cover on it - is that a good idea
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
Hi there -- Thanks for your questions. A couple things to keep in mind here. First, putting the Eight Sleep cover on any mattress (but especially this one) is going to materially change the feel and performance of the mattress, beyond just the temperature. So for example, if you are looking at this mattress for its conformance and pressure-relieving capabilities, those will certainly be lessened by the Eight Sleep cover. Second, you don't really need the cooling features of this mattress if you are going to add an Eight Sleep cover. The cooling features of the Breeze are designed to avoid trapping heat so that you don't get hot. Whereas the Eight Sleep cover is designed to actually make the bed cold (if you want that) by pumping in cold water that flows between you and the mattress. So my advice would be to first decide what you care most about. If your top priority is that the bed be *cold*, then I would save some money by pairing the Eight Sleep cover with either the ProAdapt or the LuxeAdapt (but not the Breeze). However, if you simply don't want to be hot and your top priority is the pressure relief, conformance, and other features that Tempur-Pedic mattresses tend to be known for, then I would go with one of the Breeze models. I hope that's helpful.

Hey there! So latex feels totally different than other foams. We generally think it feels slightly firmer than comparable polyfoam and with a bit more "push-back" similar to a mattress with coils. Yeah, this is a good question. So Tempur's foams are a bit distinct and there aren't a lot of options on the market that work in exactly the same way. That said, you might look at a few other memory foam models to get a sense of what you like? Serta's iComfort can have a similar slow "melting-into-bed" kind of feel in the Medium and Firm options.

Would a mattress protector effect the cooling effect of the mattress
@goodbed2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adan -- Thanks for your question. The short answer is yes it affects how you will experience the cooling but no it doesn't remove the cooling benefit. These mattresses are of course designed to be used with sheets and protectors. Putting this additional fabric in between you and the conductive element just increases the time it takes for the heat to reach that element -- but it won't prevent the heat from reaching it, and once it does it will do its thing just the same. This means that the cooling benefit will be less immediate (eg, with more fabric on the mattress, you will feel less "coolness to the touch"), but it will still happen. I hope that's helpful.
@LapineTingTing Жыл бұрын
@@goodbed I have been searching for answers to this question. Thank you so much!!! I use mattress pad and bed sheet, so I was wondering how much it would affect the cooling benefit. @@goodbed Wow thank you for responding Mike! Didn’t expect to get a reply from you and so quick!😆 I am still watching your videos and actually read through all the comments with your replies. You give such detailed and useful answers/suggestions to everyone, which is so nice of you! I’ve seen lots of people talking about sleeping hot, so I also wonder if I am a hot sleeper or otherwise. I don’t think I am a hot sleeper unless the heater is on. lol I live in the Bay Area, and even in summer, I like to sleep with a thin blanket/comforter. So I guess I am not a hot sleeper? 😂 A lot of reviews say memory foam is just in general hotter than innerspring, so I am just so curious (and a bit nervous) about how much hotter that can be. 🤣 I have been sleeping on the same bed with a topper since I moved to the U.S (like 15 years ago already lol), and my parents said this bed is like 20+ old at least. I have to say it still works pretty good, but the dip of me sleeping on the same spot is getting worse, so I am looking for a new one that can also last long (if not that long). 🤣 I went to the store and tried some beds with my friend and cousin. Actually all three of us like the feel of the ProAdapt medium all foam the most. Then I came home to do more research and saw people talking about it can be very hot, sink after a year and etc., so I haven’t made the purchase yet. A family friend (who is a mover) recommends Beautyrest Black to me, and I also tried it and kind of like it too. However just from lying on it for a little bit at the store, the feel of the memory foam is new yet quite nice, so I probably will just go with the Pro-Adapt medium. After watching your review about the Breeze, it’s so tempting to get LuxeBreeze though (yes your videos are that convincing 🤣). Really like how you show the parts and explain everything, which makes it makes a lot more sense to us who basically have no clue. 😂 Now I am leaning back to ProAdapt after seeing your reply haha. Sorry for the super long comment. lol Again, your videos are so informative and I learned so much about mattress. Really appreciate it!
@goodbed Жыл бұрын
@@LapineTingTing Thanks again for your kind words! It's true that a memory foam mattress can trap more heat, leading to more people sleeping hot on that mattress. That said, for every person who gets overheated on a memory foam mattress, there are at least as many people who can sleep on a memory foam mattress and not find this to be an issue at all. Of course, it can be tough to know which camp you're in if you've never slept on a memory foam mattress before. Unfortunately, I can't help much with that part! That said, if you're worried about it, there are a few things you can do: 1) try 'test-driving' a memory foam mattress at a friend's house fist (if this is an option for you) 2) buy a mattress that has a generous return policy in case you overheat on it 3) buy a memory foam mattress that has enhanced cooling features like the Breeze models 4) get a memory foam hybrid which adds air flow by using springs under the memory foam instead of a foam core 5) steer clear of any mattress types that can have a tendency to trap heat in the first place (though this would require sacrificing the idea of having lots of memory feel) 6) add a cooling cover like the Eight Sleep (www.goodbed.com/o/z/1146/eight-sleep-pod-cover/) -- this can definitely make any mattress sleep cool but will also change the feel of the mattress a bit I hope that's helpful.

The 3/4 inch indentation warranty is irrelevant with Tempur-Pedics as they will not suffer with that. They will look straight as the day you buy them. The problem is that in few years they will not be as supportive (they will sink too much). The material becomes like marshmallows. I'm speaking from experience.
@goodbed2 жыл бұрын
Hi Draton -- Thanks for your comment, and sorry for your experience. You're right that with many foams, but especially memory foams, they can lose their resilience long before they lose the ability to regain their loft when no weight is on them (which is how indentation warranties are measured). FWIW, our data suggests that this is much less common with Tempur-Pedic memory foam than with other memory foam. In my experience, the principal explanation for this is that Tempur-Pedic's memory foam has a higher density than most other memory foam on the market. Nonetheless, as you noted this type of thing can still happen from time to time, even with Tempur products, and I'm very sorry to hear that it happened in your case.
@goodbed2 жыл бұрын
@Fire Plug Respectfully, this is only a "pro tip" for those people whose "profession" is fraud. As consumer advocates, we have always been very vocal in educating our readers that most mattress warranties are written such that they have little to no value to the consumer. As such, with only rare exceptions, we discourage mattress shoppers from placing any value whatsoever on warranty (and in particular, warranty length), when choosing which mattress to buy. But this advice clearly crosses a red line -- two wrongs don't make a right.
@SecretRareWaffle Жыл бұрын
So true, my Tempur-Pedic Firm mattress from 2008 is perfectly flat with 0 indentation and yet has many many “holes” or spots throughout lacking support. These spots didn’t seem to affect sleep until around 12 years, so it is great advice to ignore the warranty and not purchase based on warranty. Also adjustable bases will create more wear on the foam from moving and bending. My tempur-pedic was on a solid base not adjustable. I recommend buying based on affordability, comfort, and quality you are happy with. I’m purchasing a new luxbreeze firm today. Hoping the quality of foam has improved and we get another 15 year+ bed. Regardless I wouldn’t consider any other brand after my last bed.
