I had a 1450 for years. I was the only one that could run it. If mom or her bf ran it it would breake belts and blow head gaskets. Pushed a lot of snow with it in NE Ohio. It was great having hydraulic lift.

Thanks Crazy D, great vid, great channel, but I’ve got a soft spot for the Garden Tractors. My grandfather bought a 1963 Cub Original, I remember being 5 or 6 riding in the trailer with my brother. Holding on for dear life while calling out “Faster Grandpa Faster”, on old mining roads in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I remember it feeling like 100 MPH, but a few years back I looked it up and realized it was no faster than 14 MPH. Great memories. I inherited it 20 years ago and it still runs great. He bought the front blade, 38” mower deck, the tilting/ dump trailer, and the Danco Underdrive. He also picked up the Plant Jr. Planetiller that has it’s own 3hp Briggs & Stratton. Everything works great and it mows wonderfully. Stay safe everyone and take care.

For anyone interested, there's a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to lawn and garden tractors. The name is simple enough...Lawn and Garden Tractor Magazine. It gets pretty technical on some things that it really doesn't need to and also gets into some European equipment that we don't normally see in North America. On the other hand, it's an interesting read 6 times each year. The subscription IS pricey ($28/yr 6 issues) but, it's a niche market. Other than my personal subscription, I'm not affiliated with the magazine or publisher in any way. I just wanted to let people know that it's available.

The fact that the 318 or the 140 didn’t make the list and the 1450 was number 1 shows how awful of a list this is
@srabes8742 Жыл бұрын
I believe what makes the Case tractor so popular, and robust, is the hydraulic drive, which is quite differs than a hydrostatic. No swash plate. You can see that there is no tunnel going to the rear wheels, instead only hoses to run the rear drive

@MikeBrown-ii3pt4 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you'll find a "parts tractor" with a good engine soon! The old garden tractors (made of cast iron and REAL steel) are far superior to any of the plastic ones built today! They might not have cup holders or USB ports but, those things don't get the work done!

I will stick with my Gravely Professional 20G with a 60" deck.I have had several JDs and Craftsman/Bolens. The Gravely is more heavy duty like the Case and it also has a great turning radius in comparison to other non-zero turn tractors. I like the rear low slung 20horse horizontal Kohler for its stability while mowing slopes. Although my front engine 1974 Craftsman plows my garden better because I don't have to add as much weight to the front end to get it to steer correctly. For mowing or plowing snow, the Gravely puts most of those pics to shame. if I were to need a hoist with a front loader, I would go for the Case. The Cubs are nice but not heavy duty enough to make good use of the hoist.

My uncle bought a brand new 317 back in the late 1970s. I'm not sure what the deck size is but he also bought the rear mount roto tiller and front blade at the same time. He's used it year round here in Northwest Ohio for pushing snow, tilling his 1/2 acre garden and mowing nearly 5 acres. Obviously, it hasn't led an easy life. Finally, last spring (2019), after all those years of faithful service, it just wouldn't build enough compression to fire anymore. He was looking at new tractors but just couldn't believe the prices of inferior machines. He was happier than a pig in you know what when I found a complete OEM Deere rebuild kit for his engine. A local machine shop took it .020 over and I put it back together. Uncle REALLY got into it then and found all of the needed sheet metal and other misc. things to completely restore his old friend. He bought a cheap brand new rider for his lawn to get through last summer. This past spring (2020), the new/old 317 roared out of the garage, with its also restored tiller to take on the garden again. The restored mower deck was installed a few weeks later. The dozer blade is anxiously waiting for the first real snowfall now. I'm not a big Deere fan myself but I just couldn't bring myself to let that old guy go to the scrappers.

I've been wanting to send you and Doc a couple things for nearly a year but haven't been able to find a mailing/shipping address. I'll have to google Omega Auto Clinic to see if it's there. I'm pretty sure that Dan would love the tools and you would love the die cast tractor that I want to send. Over 400 views in the first 3 hours seems like you're well on the way to your 1 week goal. All of my "tractor friends" are already subscribed and we work on (and love) ALL tractors, big or small. I actually have a "license plate" on my Cub Cadet 1605 that says "When I grow up, I want to be a Farmall! I also made a "plate" for a friends JD 317 that says "It ain't easy being green!

We used to have small 2 wheeled "walk behinds" that could have mowers, roto tillers, dozer blades etc. mounted to the front. Some even had a sulky seat that could be hitched onto the back so that the operator could ride instead of walk behind them. Those are all antiques now, mostly seen at shows. On the other hand, these days, we have many small, self powered pieces of equipment that can fit into a very narrow space. We have mini loaders, dump trucks, trenchers and others. Many of them are also electric, rather than gas or diesel powered.

The Cub Cadet 129 or 149 were HANDS down better than the 1450. The 1450 had the worthless rubber iso mounts under the engine and Kohler removed the balance gears inside. WAY too much vibration. The poor design led to taking out the drive shaft components and were expensive to repair. The 1000, 1200 with Manual Transmissions were the worst. You can count on replacing the drive shaft parts Often. just my thoughts.
@FarmallForever4 жыл бұрын
I've abused my 1000 to where it shouldn't even run and I haven't had one single issue with the motor mounts or the drivetrain. Same with my 1650. I'd rather work on a quietline than a 1x9 or 1x8 series but that's just my preference.
