The strength of the transaxle is the most important factor when choosing any of these models. The K46 is known to fail early if used in anything other than a flat lawn. The K72 in the X500 series is much stronger and can be used for much more difficult tasks.

Changing out the factory fluid for 5w50 (recommend by tuff torq) helps a lot. Went from barely pulling itself up an incline to spinning the tires before anything else. Yeah its weak and not made for hard use, but the original oil was way too thin for it.

I looked at many options and ended up going with an old JD lawn tractor. The 355d was at the top of yhe GX series of late 90's early 2000's. Just couldn't afford something new, but also didn't want to get in below the standard that the 355 sets. 1 acre with lawn mowing and other (light) work.

Wow! I've never been a big John Deere guy, mostly due to lack of experience. I do appreciate, however, you taking the time to explain your line of tractors and the differences/features. I am not sure where your dealership is, but if you were in my neck of the woods, this video probably just made me wanna buy a new tractor. Thanks for taking the time to put this video out! :-)

This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use kzbin.infoUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability,deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

My X380 with the 48in mower deck suits me fine for my 1 1/2 acre estate with a long drainage slope along the road. This tractor can ride it sideways and climb right up it while mowing no sweat. It also has plenty of pulling power. I dragged a 22ft heavy wooden utility light pole across the land with it without the mower deck under it meaning less weight. And it dragged it without a hiccup.
@jejoko Жыл бұрын
If 22 horses can pull it, then the tractor can too. Not really, but fun to think about. I bet just one actual horse could pull that pole. They do have leverage to their advantage, but can also be quite stubborn 😅 I like my lawn tractor.

A lawn tractor with a locking diff garden tractor transmission should be an option. Not everyone does gardening but having the ability to tow and move things without having to use your truck is nice. I'm always moving things around so I can mow the grass with my tractor and have a lot less weed whacking to do.

LAWN tractors - generally but not always sold by the Big Box stores. Check to see if the transmission is a 'light duty' (normally NOT serviceable by the user/owner). If you can't change the hydrostatic fluid, then when it croaks, you're done. GARDEN tractors - generally sold by larger implement dealers. Check to see if the transmission is a 'heavy duty', and IS serviceable by the user/owner. One big clue is if the rear wheels are secured by 4 or 5 lug nuts. Advanced features on Garden tractors can include hydraulic lift & lower for snow plow, snow blowers, etc.
@bobbywartman20582 жыл бұрын
I've always called them "Garden Tractors" from way back in the early '70's.....I will not do that anymore. :) I mow 8/10 of a acre with a 340 4 wheel steer...Give me a 4 wheel steer over a Zero turn any day.... Put the steering in left hand lock and the 48in deck will make a 14in circle....and you don't need 2 hands constantly on the arms like a zero turn.

What is the smallest lot size you would recommend an X758 for? Would you consider it overkill for someone that has a 1/2 acre now with a 3x4 car driveway to plow snow? But hopes to never need to buy another tractor again? 25-30yrs of use. Potentially wants to move up to a 2-3acre lot but that is still a long term goal, not a certainty.
@Just1American19664 жыл бұрын
With those long-term goals, no, I would not consider that overkill, as long as it fits where you need it to (such as gate openings, between trees/obstacles, etc.)
@7viewerlogic6704 жыл бұрын
In your situation I would buy an X584 (4wheel steer). When you get the bigger lot you can pull one of those mower decks that has its own engine. You will get the open spaces done quicker but will still be manueverable with just the tractor. If life goes well you can treat yourself to a new tractor in 15 years.
@bigd92603 жыл бұрын
The problem with the X700 series is for the price, they are almost in sub compact tractor territory. If your spending that much just spend another 2 to 3 K and get a sub compact tractor. A Kubota BX or 1025R is 3x more tractor than the x700 series, and you will get 30 years out of them with proper maintenance.
@artszabo1015 Жыл бұрын
@@bigd9260 Last time I checked the 1025 and 758 were nearly the same price. 14 - 15K

I keep hearing "Kawasaki better than Briggs and Stratton", but they never take into account which models. I'd much rather have the V-twin Briggs than a single-cylinder Kow, for my needs, at least. I've run twins and singles on the properties I maintain, and the twins actually handle the hills better (though I have to admit all three engines I've been using have been Briggs models, two twins and one single.)

I dont understand why ANYONE would buy a X7 series when for only what? another $100 you can have a 1023 compact tractor and get WAY more for your $$$. Any property larger enough to require an X7 series will find a 1023/1025 will come in real handy. Yes, you can put turf tires on the rears of a compact tractor. It takes all kinds I guess. !

The hydraulic lift & lower feature on the GX335 is a MUST HAVE for my 80 y/o knees.
