If it were made today (without CGIs but produced as it was done in the 1950s), it would cost about $500 million. Parting of the Red Sea and the writing of the Tablets are impressive scenes.

People tend to forget that when the Ten Commandments was first released in 1956 to the public it received very mixed reviews. Most of the public loved it. Many film critics and some other film reviewers and organizations hated it or gave it very poor reviews, although some others did like it. Surprisingly a lot of the criticism seemed to be aimed mostly at its creator, director Cecil B. DeMille. It did not win any of the end of the year film awards and only got one Oscar.

The Irony is? Ridley scott says he saw this as a child and wasn't impressed and it looked fake (and I call bullshit on that statement, even adults at the time thought this was amazing...to say nothing about the view through a child's eyes? cmon...don't sound so superior) thus he made his own version? and its nowhere near as good...60yrs later.

That's who it is, I couldn't think of his name, actor Henry Wilcoxon. Did anyone notice that when Yul Brynner was about to throw his spear when the pillar of fire appeared, the actor Henry Wilcoxon grabs Yul Brynner's arm and says" No Dathan you cannot breach the fire of God". He called him Dathan(Edward G.Robinson) instead of the name of the Pharoah's character Rameses. I notice it every time that I watch this clip.

childof jesusrose I highly recommend you check out the Dreamworks animated film that is actually very adult with its visuals, themes, and messages called “The Prince of Egypt”. While this is a classic and has more characters including Dathan, Nefriteri, Baka etc. The Prince of Egypt has less characters, but devoted more time to developing them for example it shows the bond that Moses and Ramses had with each other as brothers and as much as both would like it to go back to that it cannot be. Also the voice of God is much more calming to listen to while the one in this film let’s just say definitely fits the personal of “Old Testament” God.

Part of it might be because the producers dragged politics into the movie. The "rule of law" is fine, but how does living among the Jews, which practiced slavery on others, and who stoned people for picking up sticks on the Sabbath or not having the right fringe on their garments, or for not being a virgin at the time of marriage, promote the "rule of law"?

@@shirtless6934 Your idea of rule of law is modern. Rule of law was very different in that time. You make an error by comparing the two and expecting similarity. EVERYONE practiced slavery, not just the Hebrews. Their rule of law was finally put in written form by Moses in what became the first 5 books of the Scriptures. It was God's law, much of which this modern society does not agree with. But it was a law that was needed until it was time for Jesus to come to earth.

"After this day you will see his chariots no more." "Yes, you'll be dead under them!" "The Lord of Hosts will do battle for us. Behold His mighty Hand!!!!!" Great is the power of our God. He is El Shaddai, God Almighty!!!!!
