Ok so I forgot to mention a few glaringly obvious things:
Magda is for Magdalene
Tomek's relationship with her is akin to God's relationship with a human. He sees everything she does. He sees her sins. She cannot obscure much of her life from him, but he still loves her. In the television version, the love leaves after she reduces it to the physical.
This is probably my favorite episode of the series, next to 1.
To explain some inconsistencies in the video, I was mostly using the extended version as my source. I've seen both versions, but the theatrical cut goes deeper.
Of course, you can buy Dekalog here:

Yeah, Magda is a fallen human that gets to experience real love for the first time. Great observation. What is clear for Grażyna Szapołowska who played her (in role of a lifetime, as she said many times) is the fact that this story is about loneliness: - Magda is abandoned by her partner who escapes for some (political?) reason to Australia. It makes me wonder if we're supposed to speculate that he's there with Krzysztof's wife and Paweł's mother from part 1 as she was also stated to be there but that is perhaps a stretch. At least letters prove that he's alive. - Tomek has been living in a childcare home since his birth. He never knew his parents. All of that might explain his social akwardness. - His hostess is also a very lonely person - she's scared to be alone while dying, her son is also abroad (I don't remember if Australia or any other country was mentioned) but even upon return is sure not to stay with her for long. She's also the one to spy on Tomek and Magda during their unforunate intercourse which makes her very strict with Magda, lying to her face numerous times and even stepping in with milk job to protect Tomek. I can see all of them staying lonely for the remainder of their lives, TBH. Tomek is a very interesting creation - his obsession is certainly unhealthy, he steals, lies, forges documents, complicates lives of numerous people and invades Magda's privacy. At the same time he is to be seen as a pure soul, not wanting anything in return (including not touching himself anymore while watching her) and even - just maybe - remembering his birth. Many people prefer ending of a movie version (as suggested by Ms. Szapołowska who stated that people wanted a fairytale) but I wasn't keen on "crying over a spilled milk" scene. It's not even sure if Tomek is alive at this point and the movie never clarifies that. "Ja już pani nie podglądam" ("I don't spy on you anymore") is as powerful as it could have been because it implies that Tomek got over Magda... somehow. By professional psychological treatment? By not getting over his embarrasment? By being obsessed about something else? Everything is possible but it's powerful because it's a complete reversal of initial situation - now she's the one pursuing him, searching for him, calling him... loving him I guess. I like the interpretation that he stopped loving her once their relationship became physical. I like use of Artur Barciś in that - Tomek's joyful moment is beautiful and - as it's stated in the video - it was so refreshing to see that mysterious man smile with happiness for this pour soul. Trivia: Marzena Trybała was initial choice for the role of Magda but dropped out to play in West German movie. Grażyna Szapołowska stepped in 3 days before the production started. Theatrical version was Polish submission for Academy Award. It should have been nominated, if you ask me, because it certainly was good enough but I'd submit "A Short Film About Killing" instead and wait to see if anyone would dare to snub that. :) Something interesting I've noticed: Absent people/child alert on the series: Part 1. Paweł's mother/Krzysztof's wife - lives abroad. Child alert: Paweł and other boy(s) die. Jacek gets to live. Part 2. Dorota's lover - lives abroad. Child alert: Dorota's child gets to live, doctor's children died. Part 3. Edward, Ewa's former husband - lives happily in different city. Child alert: Janusz leaves his children to be with Ewa that night, Ewa is a child to her aunt. Edward and Janusz are fathers, Ewa is not a mother. Part 4. Anka's mother/Michał's wife - deceased. Child alert: Anka is/isn't daughter of Michał. She stated that she had an abortion. Part 5. Jacek's sister - deceased. Child alert: other than her, two little girls share a nice laugh with Jacek in perhaps the only humanizing moment of him before the murder. Part 6. Tomek's friend - lives abroad. Magda's partner - lives abroad as well. Child alert: Tomek is a child figure for the hostess. Also Tomek meets Roman from part 9 so that's important.

The best of the Dekalog series in my opinion, and better than the movie that they made about it.

Inexperienced male falling in love with an experienced woman.. If the genders were reversed, this movie would be probably banned in most countries...
