Sorry but Kitty Farmer is not an attentive mom nor educator. She literally is brainwashed by a child molester and put defending him before her daughter’s recital.
@user-wc1pw4nk5o2 күн бұрын
The worst part of this is that the child abuse in this movie is fake but it is very real in our world and that's the part that makes it so terrible.

The only reason I knew this film existed was because the band Electric Hellfire Club has a rockin' track called "D.W.S.O.B." that apparently is only on the film's soundtrack, none of their own albums.

Funny how Trump was convicted on 34 felonies which were conveniently charged right as the campaign began. Has anyone really looked closely at those charges? His defense wasn't even allowed to see them until **after** they rested their case. Kafkaesque/Gilliamesque indeed.

I've been watching this movie since February 1993 and it's my favourite, Not the best film I've ever seen - but my favourite. I agree with almost all you've said. I'm sure you've noticed that the herb gardener's wife here is the same actress who had a larger role in Ozu's Tokyo Story (which certainly IS the best film I've ever seen). And I had the privilege of seeing Lou Reed live around that time, including 'What's Good'.

This film reminded me of Pink Floyd's film 'The Wall'. Both films are hallucinatory and have themes of madness and isolation, symbolised by an endless wall which traps the main characters. There's also a scene where [SPOILERS] the main character undergoes a violent body horror transformation and becomes an evildoppelganger of himself.

I was shocked and disgusted by this film. I was 28 and had been in prison for violence. But this tried to make you complicit. I hate it and was impressed that it could do that to me. Im 51 now and havnt seen anything that has come close to it... Thank god.😮

This is a terrific film that’s worth seeing. It is a lesser known Weir film that deserves much more attention than it gets. Another is The Year of Living Dangerously, which also has a political edge to it. Some of the racist comments on here show up their writers far more than the film.

Birthed a demon? No, sir. Anyone who thinks this movie is about possession from a Christian/religious context doesn't properly understand the film. This is not a simple demonic possession film, like Exorcist. This is a cosmic horror story. She is possessed by a cosmic horror deity. Not a demon.

Even though the film is not LITERALLY set in Brazil, the film reflected the reality of Brazil at that time along with many other Latin American countries, under Operation Condor. The CIA on behalf of corporate interests, and Henry Kissinger, overthrew many democratically elected governments, installed brutal dictatorships, who went on to systematically round up thousands of civilians black bagged them, take them to torture sites do unspeakable psychological and sexual violence to them and ultimately ended up murdering THOUSANDS of innocent civilians who were conveniently labeled as "terrorists" or "communists". Any government that threatened to nationalize its resources and and kick out U.S. companies, was deemed a threat to the United States and dealt with accordingly. That is what the whole Cold War was about. Ensuring the former colonies remained colonies in one form or another, so they could take a cheap resources, cheap labor and set up corporate tax Havens overseas. Just look at current day Haiti which is still being interfered with by the United States and France. Either through election interference or straight up assassinating their president. Just look up the infamous "death flights" of Argentina. Where student activists were drugged strip naked, and thrown out of a plane over the ocean to drown. Reality is always darker than fiction. So even though it may not be set in Brazil, it is for all intents and purposes politically reflective of the state of Brazil at that time, who had a brutal dictatorship until 1985, close to the release of this film.

I haven’t watched it and I don’t plan to, but since no real children were harmed, I don’t think it should be banned. There’s a difference between art (potentially) being in poor taste & art actively causing/encouraging harm.

It was a magnificent film which has left a lasting impression on me since I first saw it in the 80s ... so may amazing scenes that live on forever. I don't work directly in a bureaucracy but do work for a company that operates contracts for the Federal Government, and the bureaucracy is crushing and getting worse very year, so the premise of the film really hit the mark. What's particularly great are the fantasy scenes which are done better than anything produced today by AI. A masterpiece.
