Most people who get addicted BELIEVE they need it and get it from a doctor with a legitimate prescription. It's no different than giving housewives "mother's little helper" (aka speed) in the 50's, or professionals taking coke in the 80's. People may "function better" on it initially, while it morphs the neuron transmitters in their brains. It was believed heroin and cocaine were "lifesavers" too. Adderall is worse than opiods in some aspects. Atleast with opiods people will admit their addicted, but that's more of a physical drug. Adderall affects the brain, destroys lives, and people will still believe they "need" it. It is no different than any other stimulant like cocaine or methamphetamine. The only people who can truly benefit from it, long term, are people who have been proven to have underactive parts of the brain, through ACTUAL testing like bloodwork and brain scans.

Adderall affects people with ADHD differently than those who don't have ADHD. It literally balances out the chemicals in an ADHD brain and essentially makes the person feel normal as opposed to "high". This medication is a life saver for a lot of people with ADHD and it sucks that the people abusing it or dying from overdosing are giving Adderall a bad rap.

I dislike that I despise "normal me". Adderall makes me happier, more confident, more social, and generally a better person. People have said I'm different when on it and they like "adderall me" more than "normal me". This makes me think life would be totally better if I was "wired differently". I was diagnosed with ADD as a child, and In my early adult life I HEAVILY abused alcohol, caffeine and nicotine. When you have add/hd your body needs and wants something to constantly stimulate your brain activity. Hence why I abused so many stimulants and alcohol. For those of you who don’t have add/Hd you won’t understand. When I say I feel “Normal” I literally mean you feel like i can comprehend, learn, and achieve everything my peers can. I don’t blow up in frustration because I wasn’t prepared, or I was extremely disorganized and screwed something up. My friends and coworkers have all noticed the changes in my conduct and demeanor. I’m a much more logical thinker and I have a will to get things done. Sitting idle is the worst thing you can do while on it. However being overweight and having high blood pressure hasn’t made me feel to well on it in recent days. ( What brought me here ) But I have myself to blame on that one. It’s one of those things you have to ask yourself. Do I go though life like a kite soaring in a tornado? Or do I live life like normal people. I think if I get this weight problem and blood pressure under control, I’ll be all right.

The psychiatrist I have now is awesome. She was the first to suggest what she calls a "drug holiday" with my Adderall. This means not taking my Adderall at least once a week to prevent me from gaining a tolerance. I try to take two days off a week which I feel perfectly resets my tolerance. I hope this helps someone experiencing the frustration of increased tolerance causing decreased benefits from the medication.

I have severe adhd and an adderall prescription. Before the prescription I was generally distracted, had poor memory, irritable, anxious, depressed, and usually had sleep difficulties. Without even being prescribed a stimulant, most of my symptoms resembled stimulant withdrawl. Personally speaking, taking adderall when I wake up has enabled me to function almost like everyone else in work. My ability to fall asleep is ironically better. This is how adderall affects me, someone with a bad case of adhd. For others whose unaltered mental states don't resemble stimulant withdrawl, it makes sense that adderall on top of a regularly stimulated brain can get you high and , thus, more likely addicted.

Aderall doesn't work like that. It is for people with adhs, so they can be in a "normal" condition. If you take aderall and you don't have adhs, it is not gonna have the same effects. I am almost 70 went off adderall for 7 years and my life sucked im back on it low dose and its a godsend im back to being a person again i sleep better i eat normal and my desires for life ca,e back. I don’t procrastinate as much i am a better person. Some people need it i went for most of my life without it and got by because i am fairly intelligent. @@rebekahpowers1595 No i don’t however i have been told we have lots of extras lol….anyway who knows whats true long ago we were told that certain drugs and alcohol killed thousands of brain cells each use and ive been using these substances for over 50 years . I do know that they deplete serotonin and that i believe because after being on stimulants some much much stronger than adderal i found it extremely difficult to be happy and to have any energy in my life however this I’m sure was also because of severe depression after losing my child. I believe some of us have radically different metabolic responses to stimulants i find i am very sleepy from using adderall i actually feel a sleep fog come over me about 1 in 5 times i take my prescribed dose. I think that says something just not sure what it means exactly as other time it acts as a stimulus. I also found i have less obsessive behaviors with adderall like less vaping which was way to constant when i was off this medication.

I have to mention this, what about all of the positives that this medication does? Stimulants, particularly Adderall, are an incredible part of therapy for a human being who needs this type of medicine. Yes there are people who do need this & it helps in countless ways, life changing & saving. It also has over a 90% effective rate for those who are prescribed it. That is in a way miraculous! No other meds have that effectiveness. Adderall deserves much more respect than it gets due to all of those who take it who do not need it.

I took Adderall for 9 years. Diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. It caused me to get Raynaud’s Phenomenon which is an Auto Immune Disorder. This video did mention circulatory side effects but I also think that people don’t realize how serious the long term side effects can be. I went off of Adderall for about 2 years. I recently started back on a much lower dose because my job is in jeopardy due to low productivity. I have an addictive personality, I was able to quit taking Adderall cold turkey. I’ve taken adderall since I was 14 I am now 24. It’s been a life saver in my schooling and career as a nurse but here’s some health problems I have: (I still take it as my doctors have studied my body even 6 months off of it, so your negative POV is invalid) highly unstable hypertension for 3+ years, pretty heavily medicated insomnia the last 5 years (before being a nurse), just got diagnosed with PAC arrhythmia meaning my heart skips a beat which explains the chest pain I’ve had and hospital visits for uncontrolled high BP even though I’m on 3 different meds 4 times a day for it even without adderall. If I could function with one less med or problem in my life I WOULD. Lol. POINT BEING-. You know your body but be aware what adderall does. Because these are known “expected” side effects! Shoot I had stomach ulcers and fatty liver disease my first year taking it. Like most prescriptions for pre-existing mental and cognitive disorders and issues that affect somebody doing their best to live a functional life, less is typically always more. If you are a someone who is prescribed it for the first time and, you know, you think you actually could benefit from it and don’t just purely want it for recreational reasons, start on a 5mg XR and go from there. This is a method of dosing that is called titrating; which not only serves as an accurate form of measurement, but also gives you the clearest indication of appropriate medication function vs. side effects, which affect almost everyone differently for a myriad of reasons. If depression and ADD/ADHD are both factors that inhibit your productivity, mental health and/or job/school, consider asking about Wellbutrin as a sibling dose and see if it benefits you with the same less is more structure of beginning a new drug. Wellbutrin is sort of a misfit antidepressant that checks more than one symptom box for people, including those who deal with major depression, overeating, ADD and even the reluctant cigarette smoker who has trouble quitting due to addiction and/or craving. In many instances it can also help round out the Adderall and its side effects/intensity, so that it is a less noticeable, but smoother cycle for your body - which is a notable benefit for those who experience mood swings or are having trouble with dosing in general. In the end though, it pays the most to be honest with yourself and your health when taking such medications. As an adult, you should be able to be introspective enough to question your own intentions with prescription drugs and how they might alter or affect you or your family’s lives and if the trials are worth it. There’s an unfathomable amount of people who chase the elusiveness that is a stimulant high or “function” for far too long, for no real benefit other than just a feeling of temporary pleasure. While that’s a personal call to make if you’re in that situation, there are other solutions if you find the burnout is too much to bear or if the medication is no longer needed. Drug holidays/breaks are a good time to reflect upon this struggle or thought you’ve been having. There exist more potentially helpful drugs than this one, though. One more thing - for some individuals, certain medications should only be considered when the brand name product is an option and you can affordably request and use them (i.e. non-generics). I can’t say that Adderall is 100% one of these medications; but I can say that it might be. A word, or group thereof, is only as good as one’s truthful experiences with them and their ability to share it.

It’s been working fine for me so far. I take 20 mg in the morning and a 5 mg around 2 in the afternoon for a quick boost for school. This is how it was prescribed for me, because my symptoms of ADD are bad. I only take the 5 mg when I have class and honestly I don’t take the 20 mg everyday. It is recommended to take one or 2 days off a week. I don’t feel addicted to it, I don’t have the urge to pop one and if I forget to take it one day, I won’t run back home to take my medication. I don’t know if I have a strong will or if drugs just don’t really do it for me. I’ve done countless drugs just to try them out and cut the curiosity and never have I been addicted. I was a regular weed smoker too and one day I decided it was doing more harm than good, because the high didn’t really calm my anxiety down anymore it would actually make it shoot through the roof and I stopped smoking with no problems and I don’t even miss it. My point is, I don’t find adderall addicting. I take it as prescribed just like any other med as if I were taking a multivitamin in the morning and that’s it 🤷🏻‍♂️

I am in my 40s and I resisted adderall because I'm scared to die early.....but at this point, I felt my whole life I've been stepping on the gas but the car in perpetually in a neutral position. Will I have to take Adderall is my 70s? Meaning is this a medicine that we need every day? I was on it for 6 months last year, got off...now I want to go back on. Was on 30 MG IR twice daily. Pointless video. Many people with ADHD need meds to have literally minimal quality of life. Telling them to exercise and eat better is like telling a paraplegic to get up and walk. Focusing on the side effects is not helpful, especially since these are pretty much side effects of any controlled medication. Doctors shouldn't be prescribing it to people who don't need it, that's all.

I understand and don’t want to make you feel like I’m correcting you as that’s not my intent I just want to clear up that people with ADHD have very different experiences with these side effects. I’ve been taking 15mg XR for about 4 month now and I feel like my old self. But I’ve got some pretty strong side effects, I don’t want to eat, and whenever I stand up even after just bending down for a few seconds I almost pass out. Please don’t hate on someone who just wants to help people on their journey to be a better person.

It's dangerous for those who do not need it. But for some of us whose brains don't regulate dopamine properly, adderall can REALLY help. I have ADHD, OCD, severe depression, Anxiety and PTSD. I take 45mg.. XR30mg in the morning. Then at noon i take the XR15mg along with an ssri and hydroxezine... honesty with my depression it make me have energy to get up and stay focused with my house cleaning ritual and my art also applying the ssri i feel normal like everyone else. But the downside sometimes my body want to keep going and if im done cleaning and organizing and have nothing left to do i start playing with my hair or picking... i hate the OCD... second thing is sometimes i cant sleep.. ive gone 24hrs before trust me its scary and confusing felt concentrated but like a zombie lifeless and I'd cry for no reason.. ive been good to avoid it as its been a long time that happened.

Thats crazy. the doctor prescribed me 20 miligrams, i was taking 20 miligrams and 1 day i took 40. then started taking 40 everyday then i took 60 once but kept taking 40 every day. then i stopped taking it for a few weeks. then i took 40 again one day and realize nothing wasnt happening so i got mad and took another pill. i started feeling it a little bit then but not as much as usual so i took 80. my heart was racing and everything but later that night i was depressed like crazy. now im staying away from it im never touching adderall again.

Well…At the age of 30, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and allegedly I’ve had it my whole life. I feel like I focus better which is great but I don’t know how else I should feel exactly? I’m a 6’2, 230lb Male. Do I continue to experiment beyond 4 pills(40mg)? Everything I read says I should cap at 40mgs per day? Do I try 5 tomorrow? Idk. Thoughts?

As a MD adderall is great but it definitely shouldn't be used past the age of 30. It's microdosing meth essentially and the most dangerous is the increase of heart rate. I have seen bad affects including mood swing, heart disease, and depression. Also I would like to note that there is a study out there that has linked schizophrenia to excessive use of adderall. Be careful and talk to your primary care physician. If anyone has questions I would love to help
