Dexedrine Spansule was the first stimulant I ever tried. In 1998, it was one of the few (reliable) extended release stimulants we had available in my country.

Appreciate the video man! My Doc had to switch me to Dexedrine ER from Adderall XR last month due to the Adderall shortage. Since there has been a resurgence in Dexedrine prescriptions, let's hope there is no shortage of it any time soon lol.

Beyond hilarious that the racemate had existed forever, the ᴅ-enantiomer has been around forever, but somehow, a 50/50 mix (with one of those halves itself being a 50/50 mix!) got a new patent. I'm not gonna impugn anybody, and using different stereoisomers, and getting new patents, is common. But come one. Can I do 75/25 mix of racemate and ᴅ-amphetamine, for an 87.5/12.5 overall mix and get a patent?

Well theres an interesting bit of history on that, the 75/25 ratio was available in the 50s until the 90s as "biphetamine", however patent protection ran out and generics where abound. around the same time a company which had previously made a med that was 50% D-MA , 48% D-Amp and 12% L-amp was struggling on behalf of the fact the FDA rescinded all approval for M-amp mixed medications. interestingly enough, including racemic MA, only D-MA maintained approval as a prescription stimulant, L-MA had been previously exempted from regulation as a nasal decongestant due to its virtually nonexistent psychoactive effect, as a side effect this actually wiped the market of a number of popular antidepressents and combined ADHD/anxiaty meds) Anyways they had been trying to keep themselves going by selling an instant release generic biphetamine copy (most on the market was SR caps at the time) but needed a way to set themselves apart. Company chemests and lawyers get clever and patent "Mixed amphetamine salts" which, is just biphetamine but manufactured differently so half of of the d-amp and racemic amp sections are different salts. Boom, patent protection, combined with a marketing campaign and suddenly biphetamine and its generics are forgotten, Adderall is born, funny enough it was different enough to get new patent protections but the FDA still lists its approval under 1953, and considers them so identical that many generics for adderall are just biphetamine as studys showed the differentiation in salts does nothing to effect its subjective effects. Though honestly, haveing tried both, the original biphetamine SR mechanism is more level and i wish there WAS clear designation over which MFG uses the resin complex SR system vs the "2 doses, spread appart 3-4 hours" mechanism

Dexamphetamine is available in Australia but the TGA (FDA equivalent) hasn't authorised adderall for some reason. Vyvanse has been. I have been trying different stimulants and haven't had issues getting dex or ritalin, thankfully.
