Bravo! Very well done! It's amusing/amazing that a couple of people made negative comments. Really? I wonder what that's all about? Someone learns your language (and 10 other languages) in a short time and you criticize him for not being good enough. What a joke! Let's bring you up on stage and see how well you do.

I highly recommend learning the prettiest languages ever created Norse / Icelandic / Dutch / English / Norwegian / Gothic / Faroese / Danish / Welsh / Breton / Cornish / Manx / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Forn Svenska which are the most refined and most poetic and most heavenly languages ever that are way too pretty not to know, and I highly recommend learning them 2gether, as one can learn many pretty and easy languages at the same time, which is the most efficient and the most fun way to learn languages! I have over 50 target languages, and am upper intermediate level in Icelandic and Norse and German and upper advanced level in Dutch and advanced level in Norwegian and mid intermediate level in Swedish / Portuguese / French / Italian and intermediate level in Welsh and writer level in English and native speaker level in Spanish, and am learning 15+ languages at the moment, and am also learning Slovene and Hungarian and Gallo etc, and I have the pretty languages on my list of languages I want to learn and improve! By the way, I highly recommend listening to all the Skáld songs like Rún and Gleipnir and Óðínn and Trółł Kałła Mik and SæKonungar etc and the others and the folk songs in Icelandic and Faroese etc, which are the best introduction to Norse / Germanic / Nordic languages, as they have epic pretty melodies that perfectly fit these heavenly languages!

Norse and Icelandic are the most alpha languages ever, definitely a must-know for every learner... (These are some sentences in Icelandic / Norse / Dutch that I tend to revise a lot and analyze in detail - the words in these languages are just so pretty, they are áddìctive, and so poetic, I definitely wish I had learnt them in childhood!)

Laura 2000 I learnt German and French at school back in the late Seventies and early Eighties (in England) and the teachers always stressed we had to be perfect with as little accent as possible. In retrospect this was so wrong and what put off so many English people from learning languages. Most people only want to be understandable in a foreign language but because I was constantly criticised for being imperfect and speaking with an English accent, I ditched languages. People fro other countries speak English with an accent and no English people criticise them for doing so!

By the way, I am upper intermediate level in both Old Norse and Icelandic, and I have the right Norse pronunciation, which is the most logical, and by the way, I will use DH for the TH sound in the English words this and that, which is the approximant of D and not the approximant of T like the TH in the English word think, and I will use AO for the ‘closed’ A sound that is like an A and O sound said 2gether in one sound (similar to the A sound in Hungarian) that melts into a soft O sound! For example... - hvat sounds like hvat or vat or kvat - mæra sounds like mera - ávast sounds like avast - nágrindr sounds like naogrind:r - líkligr sounds like liklig:r or likliguhr - frænda sounds like freinda or freoynda or frenda - þat sounds like that - ræðir sounds like reidhir - hárr sounds like haruhr or har:r (could have also been har / harr) - gæfr sounds like gev:r or gevuhr - hverfa sounds like hverva or verva or kverva (any of them or all 3 could’ve been used) Also... - hæll sounds like heyl - saltr sounds like solt:r - mæla sounds like mala - drápa sounds like drapa or dropa - kæra sounds like kaera or kaira - ferr sounds like fer:r - jafna sounds like yavna - hœgri sounds like heoyri - girðing sounds like girdhing - hádegi sounds like haodegi - ørendislaust sounds like eorendislaust The word... - verr sounds like ver - ekki sounds like eki or ehki - þverra sounds like thverra - gegna sounds like gekna - vefja sounds like vevya - yfir sounds like ɪvɪr as in Icelandic - ætla sounds like etla - ofn sounds like ovn - náliga sounds like naoliga - sauma could have been pronounced either saima or seoyma like in Icelandic or both or even sauma as it is written - ofleti sounds like ofleti The emphasis of stress in Norse languages such as Norse and Icelandic etc is always at the beginning of the word - for compound words made of multiple smaller words, one should add a bit of stress at the beginning of each word that the compound word is made of and the most stress always at the beginning of the compound word... I don’t think there was any fixed way of pronouncing the diphthongs, and it’s most likely that the pronunciation of diphthongs such as AU would differ depending on the word, including pronunciations such as ai / au / ao / eoy / oy / ey etc, and it may have also differed depending on the region and accent, and the Æ in Norse can have many pronunciations, depending on the word, so it can sound like e / ei / a / eoy / oey / uey / ai / ea / ae etc, depending on what sound sounds best and the most natural and easiest to say in each word, so one should use one’s intuition a lot in Norse... The Rs are always different depending on the region and depending of the speaker in every language, but in Germanic languages, a soft normal R is usually used by most speakers and by younger speakers, and I highly recommend using a soft normal R in Norse and in all other languages that aren’t English as soft Rs have the best and most refined sound, soft Rs that are pronounced as fast as possible being the types of Rs that truly suit such refined languages as Norse and the other Germanic languages, whereas hard or prolonged or thrilled Rs sound very harsh and unrefined... By the way, it’s also important to know that in Norse and Icelandic the G is usually pronounced like a K sound, especially at the end of the word, and in many words the G is pronounced K even in the middle of the word, and there are also some words where the G is pronounced as a K even when it is at the beginning of the word, so it is normal to hear a lot of K sounds when there is a G in spelling - for example, lots of speakers of Icelandic will pronounce even the G in góðan (góðan daginn) as a soft K sound, without even realizing, and this pronunciation rule comes from Norse!

Wow your German is really accurate - it sounds so soft and nice and this is exactly how German should sound like and your word order is correct, too. The other popular polyglots I watched here on KZbin were way to harsh when speaking German. I am impressed.

Ah! Yes, I was squite impressed with his Russian! My mother, who was raised speaking Russian as one of her main languages, would probably poke at its imperfections. And yes, his pronunciation isn't entirely perfect, but I think, for someone who wasn't born/raised speaking it, he's very good. I'm quite jealous. I speak without an accent in Russian, because it was my first language, but my grammar and vocabulary is terrible.

5:00 En dat je ook nog Nederlands spreekt, dat wist ik dus niet. Je spreekt het echt heel erg goed uit. Op het woord "grammatica" na dan. Dat zeg je heel erg Engels, no case of that. In alles wat je zegt klink je echt heel Nederlands. Ik kom zelf uit Leiden, een stad waar de taal 300 jaar geleden sterke invloeden uit het Engels kreeg door de vele Engelse immigranten, en wij hier nog steeds een oud Engelse " R" gebruiken in ons dagelijkse taaltje... En nog wel meer.... Voor de zekerheid.... 5:00 That you also speak Dutch, I didn't knew that! Your pronunciation is really good! Only the word "Grammatica", that sounds real English to me. But no case of that. In almost everything you say, you just sound like a real Dutchman. I come from a region that has got an enormous influence of the English language, in the 16th century. Here in Leiden, we've got still an "Old English" " RRRR" in our voice. Just the way they say an "R" in America or Australia nowadays. And more of those strange things.. Here in Leiden we say to a man with a bald shaved head: "Juh, jij met je kale bledder!". What actually means in English: "Guy, you with your bald bladder!". The word "You" has been changed into "Juh", and the word "bladder" has been changed from a bladder, like a pig bladder, which was used by kids to play a ballgame with in the year 1790 into a symbol of the head of a bald shaved man. Just because a bald-shaved head looks like a pig bladder. But the word has been changed in Dutch... From "Bladder" to " Bledder". Another example.... What do you see when you think about a "clapper"...?? Here in Leiden it is just your mailbox. The sound of a letter dropped into your mail box makes a sound that say "clapper"... So hundreds of years ago, a letter was a "CLAPPER" , now we say: "Ze gooide een brief door de klepper" . Which means... They put a letter in our clapper... Clapper or on real Leids Dutch is "Clapper" dus gewoon "Klepper" en gewoon "Brievenbus".

I do not think that is very kind of you, Selcuk T. I teach English as a Second Language, and many of my students are Russian. One could say that their English sounds awkward to an American ear--but that would not inspire them to continue. Instead, I praise them for learning the language and communicating effectively. If they make small grammatical mistakes or mispronounce vowels or V/W but still get their idea across, that is fine. When errors interfere with comprehension, I correct them--but I still find things to praise.

who cares about accents. you're looking at a bright young mind, envisioning a magnificient Project. The ability to perfectly imitate "accents" you people so dear deem, is indeed a rare but rather useless one. Focus on what really matters. ты же по-англиски происносишь точно как носители англиского языка с рождения? I'm probably not the best one to judge as much as russian concerned. Really tempted to start learning greek. I speak Spanish, Catalan and bits of other languages, and I couldn't help but notice how Greek sounded (in terms of pronunciation and rhythm etc.) so much like Spanish! My brother is half greek and he never learnt Greek, seems a shame for it to be lost. Can anyone tell me what Greek is like to learn? How's the grammar etc.. ??
@theatisgr
@theatisgr 9 жыл бұрын
Greek may sound a bit like Spanish, it has some sounds impossible to pronounce for Spaniards though! As for the grammar, noun declensions are as complicated and unpredictable as in German, and verbs are as difficult as Spanish + Russian verbs combined! In order to use correctly Greek verbs, you have to distinguish the aspect (perfective or imperfective) as in slavonic languages, and to learn when to use the subjunctive, as in romance languages. Moreover, there is much irregularity and unpredictability. Another issue is that there are still some remains of the diglossia that used to plague Greeks. Although Dimotiki is the only official language now, a little bit of Katharevousa is still used here and there, both when it comes to vocabulary and declension/conjugation. This means that you have to be register-conscious, in a higher degree than in most European languages. I don’t want to discourage you though. Learning Greek is a good way to keep your brain free of Alzheimer’s!

Tienes que arreglar tú español un POQUITO debido de tu acento, o sea, no es TAN CLARO, y creo que puedes mejorlo si practicas bastante veces; soy Colombiano, y yo sé que allá en España es diferente de nosotros, ESPECIALMENTE con ese "vosotros," pero escuché como se habla allá, y es LA VERDAD que lo que estás diciendo es una mezcla; "escuccchhhéar." Solamente quiería decir esto.

+Nick Mason Well that may be because he lives in Europe, it makes sense that he will learn languages that are spoken in his environment. Besides, honestly speaking it can`t really be argued that european languages are for the most part the ones that are useful to know as "general knowledge." Whereas african or asian languages for example are useful rather if you have a specific interest in the country, where it`s spoken.

+Revi Have to disagree with you on that one, I think learning a language like chinese, or arabic for example would be extremely useful. The former over a billion people speak, while the later you have around 350 million that speak it. That is only counting the people that speak it living in those countries and the ones that migrated. Then again it's really about your passion for the language, if you don't enjoy it you can't really force yourself to master it. ^^

Holly crap! Your Dutch is so goddamn good! You need to work a bit more on your French and Italian though. Grammatically speaking you did a great job. However, you sounded like you were in a bad mood when you spoke French. It didn't sound natural at all. You can't speak romance languages, such as Italian and French, the same way you'd speak Dutch or German, for example. Try not to sound so serious! Work on your voice tone and facial expressions. The way you speak makes you look like you're not very interested in the topic. If you talk like that in Italy or France, people might take it the wrong way.

ultramarineblue No, it doesn't need subtitles. English shouldn't be pandered to. IF English speakers want to know what he's saying then maybe they should go and learn the language of the part they want to hear about. Like every other European non-English person has to do when they want to understand something in English. Thanks for participating. Bye.

Beta Vulgaris if you watch other polyglots videos, they add subtitles to help the viewers understand what they are saying. you are just plain arrogant and stupid. a little humility might helps in your life.
@betavulgaris7888
@betavulgaris7888 8 жыл бұрын
ultramarineblue Nope, not stupid at all. I wanted to understand French so i learned to understand French. I wanted to learn to understand German so i learned to understand German. People who are lazy want subtitles putting up in English. Why not in Tagalog? Or why not in Norwegian, or Icelandic, or Zulu? Why didn't you mention those languages? After all, we should be inclusive and have subtitles for everyone so nobody is left out, by your logic. It's simply because English speaking people think everything should default to English to help them and it's one of the reasons why native English speakers do pathetically badly on the 'i know a foreign language' scale.

Jy praat baie mooi Afrikaans, Alex. Hier en daar 'n klein foutjie, maar jou uitspraak en woordeskat is baie goed. "Vrae" is moeilik wat dit klink soos "vra". Vrae is 'n meervoud, so daar is nie 'n woord soos *vraes* nie. Een vraag, baie vrae. Vra is die werkwoord, soos in "'n vraag vra" of "baie vrae vra". As jy "het" saam met 'n werkwoord gebruik, dan skuif die "het" na die einde. Byvoorbeeld: Ek hoop dat julle hierdie video geniet het. Ek hoop dat dit julle gehelp het. Oomblikke soos "videobeskrywing" en "sukses met julle tale" is fantasties. Doen so voort.
