V interesting insight, I think my most expensive is the Damned 1st with Eddie and the hot rods pic on the reverse. But just amazed how 'collectable' vinyl has risen in price in the last few years, and wonder if its all discogs doing ? Like you I don't buy records for the collectability, more the fact I want to listen to the record ! though always nice to find a first pressing. ps I'm still looking for that elusive prog record by Russian Caravan Tea 🙂
@thesuffolkrecordcollector6809 ай бұрын
Hi David ,it's funny that vinyl started to rise about the same time as discogs became popular ,I think discogs and eBay have a lot to do with it. All the best chris...

That Jody Grind lp is killer. I bought a copy last year from a local shop for £100 so I'd agree with your price. They are always well played so it took me years to finally get a clean one. My Gentle Giant Octopus looks just like yours in regard to that discolouration. I find Vertigo sleeves suffer a lot from that kind of wear. Beautiful that Glastonbury comp. contents are so cool. I've been after Cold Facts since about 2006. Jealous of that one mate. Great showings mate....regards Nigel

Hey Chris, enjoyed this. I’m not in for the money like you, what’s in the grooves is more important. Will do my own version someday if I can make that clunky Discogs cough up the info on my iPod. Cheers.

Hi,discogs is a great tool,but not sure I always agree with what they say a record is worth,as it's based on sales,I also use record collector books not sure if you know of those,I tend to look at both and compare to get a truer value ,as you say what's in the grooves is far more important. All the best Chris..

my most valuable one comes with a story, was told at the time to look out for late 60's early 70's hippy and prog stuff, went into a local red cross shop and bought introspection by the end for 50p, cover is vg+/ex and record is ex in stereo, this was in around 1987/88, took it stright to a dealer i know that had the book of values, took a look etc and said thats worth about 85 quid, i said i will wait till its worth a ton and then flog it on, never did , ive still got it, i know it a bit more than 85 quid now, its not my genre but i like it , its a good album. things are harder to find now than 35 years ago, that was the best time for record collecting/finding and of course they are 35 years older and in most cases more beaten up aswell.
@thesuffolkrecordcollector6809 ай бұрын
Hi John that was a great find ,couple weeks ago I found a us copy first press of the animals first album not a very valuable album but it's 60 yrs old this year and it's in true ex/ex condition ,for me that was an unbelievable find.. All the best chris...

Thanks for showing these Chris..Like all genuine music lovers, I am not in the least mercenary about records. The prices these days though for good originals are quite obscene to be honest, and I'm often loathed to pay the asking price. If I could be bothered, I'd go hunting at car boots at the weekends, only there will you ever find rarities for no money. The whole Vertigo Swirl thing is equally ridiculous..there are some fabulous titles, sure but also some dross..and paying upwards of £200+ for some of them for me certainly, simply isn't an option. Lovely Dando Shaft original on Neon, I'm always on the lookout and probably would bite the bullet and pay up for that one.
@thesuffolkrecordcollector6809 ай бұрын
Hi rob , I still go to record shops but find less and less at them because of the prices ,that's main reason I'm not into fairs really as everyone is in a rush plus expensive I've only ever found one real bargain at a fair,couple of years ago now I found an og copy of exile on cold harbour Lane by Alabama 3 in as new condition for 30 quid ,he obviously didn't know what he had,I still find stuff but it's getting harder because of the prices. All the best chris...

If you took them into a record shop to sell you probably get £30 to £40 for the lot. I took a load of vinyl in to a local shop 40/50 records in for sale offer £30. So I sold the, on eBay and got a lot more so just be aware
@thesuffolkrecordcollector6809 ай бұрын
Yea I know ,shops usually work on paying a third of what the record is worth as a general rule,all depending on condition and rarity tho. All the best chris..
@nigelcampag12909 ай бұрын
That's a bad shop that offers £30 or £40 for 40/50 records. It all depends on what they were or course. If every record was a £5 to £10 in vg shape then a pound a record would be ok. If they were mainly decent titles in decent shape then a £40 offer would have been very poor and not a shop I'd want to do business with. A dealer I buy from will give someone £100 for a rarer record and sell it for £150 which is fair for everyone.

Ha ha. These records are peanuts in Discogs terms. I can’t think why you’d do this. I don’t consider myself a collector, just be buying records since I was 6. Lots of my records are approaching the £1k mark on Discogs, but that just reflects the fact that most ppl know the price of everything, but the value of nothing. Love the music, don’t care about what you think you may get for it. Good luck to realising the prices you suggest.
@thesuffolkrecordcollector6809 ай бұрын
Hi yes I agree these are not the most valuable records at all ,I don't have the funds for leafhound etc,I don't sell any of my records ,all these were bought for way less than what discogs says ,I have seen copy's of some of these in record shops for what I have said and will stand by that ,In no terms do I think that they are worth what I said ,anyway it's a great hobby let's keep collecting.. All the best Chris.

To be honest I think these Discogs Vinyl videos are really interesting to watch. It is not a bad thing to value records and show highlights of a collection. I for myself love to see rare and expensive records even if they are not as expensive as yours. Even if I don’t like the music a rare record is nice to see. Probably i don’t know the value like you do.
