Hi friends! It’s been a few weeks now since we left, but we’re still straight up missing Morocco. And so we thought we’d sit down and have a good old reminisce about all the things that we love about Morocco.

I was not expecting Hamams to be No.1 , as a Moroccan I like it too. The call of the prayers is such a beautiful reminder. I was also expecting the hustle and bustle/Scammers in the bad things. I was also waiting for the Pharmacy/Hospitals. Overall, I really enjoyed your videos here in Morocco and everything you experienced except the bad things ofc but it's a part of life. I'm happy you're doing well after the incident of the cat. ❤️🕊️✌🏻

We forgot to say that the list wasn’t ranked in order of preference! Hospitality would have been too if it was. The hustle and bustle were part of the experience for us and we didn’t actually come across any scammers ourselves so no problems there 😀 Also we have nothing bad to say about the hospitals or pharmacies, everyone who we saw in them was lovely, we just had really bad timing that things weren’t open, not anyone’s fault. We’re all doing great now and fully recovered, thanks for asking ❤️☺️

As a Moroccan I also dislike the monkey treatment in the square.. thats the only place where you can see that in Morocco I guess so not everyone treat them like that..I also disagree with shops that do kot display prices and obviously that happens in touristic places. I am a big fan of youtube videos and I was excited to see the call for prayers in your list as I have never seen anyone talking about it.

We did also se these monkeys on the main square in Meknes but absolutely nowhere else in Morocco, so you’re right it’s not a widespread problem at all. The call to prayer was something we just really came to appreciate, we loved hearing the different ones from different mosques too, really beautiful and interesting ❤️

Interesting thoughts, thanks for sharing. I have been following your videos on Morocco and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Ibn Batuttah, a 14th century Moroccan explorer famously said that travelling makes you first speechless and then you become a storyteller afterwards! I couldn't agree more with what you singled out. But how did you forget our manic driving? It is a massive MINUS! Add the umbilical relationship with the horn to that and you are definitely in Morocco. The biggest PLUS is the call to the prayer; a constant reminder that the country is a Muslim land; ancestral but openly tolerant.The biggest PLUS of them all, for me, is the people. I have been to few places in this world but no one comes closer to Moroccans. They are genuinely kind and fundamentally hospitable and they eat good food 😋 Glad to hear the little one is doing well. Keep exploring and I hope to see you sometime back in beautiful Morocco 🇲🇦

That’s very true, we were lost for words at many points in our time in morocco! We didn’t really have a problem with the driving, we spent most of our time outside the major cities and compared to the UK we found the roads really quite nice and traffic free! But definitely in the larger cities it was a different story, you’re right 😀 We did mean to say at the start that the points weren’t ranked in order of preference but forgot to mention that, we really loved our visit anyway and look forward to coming back again ❤️

The driving here is very interesting. Coming from a professional driving background it is difficult to watch. The lack of self-regard for safety by pedestrians is like nothing I have seen before. We did wonder about the licensing process in Morocco.

Hi Sarah & James, thank you for the wrap-up of your journey, I do remeber Sarah's reaction in the desert of Merzouga, it was an epic moment of your journey in Morocco. Yes in many shops, price is not shown, but you should visit the first one, the second....make a tour and then negociate the price. Yesterday the Steiners counted 23 cats in Essouira medina, feel sad the cat attacked Ady and all the story and difficulties you faced. Wish you come back again, still some cities you did not visit like Ifran, or Beni Mellal...these cities are more suited for natural activities.

Glad you guys enjoyed your time, for the downside I totally agree with 1, however for 2 is a bit complicated, while supermarket put price tags in Morocco, any small shop food will have same prices and they are not allowed to change it even if they don’t put tags on it and you can’t discuss the price because it’s a fix price made to them by government, but for things like vegetables on the souk each seller will put a price depend from where he got them, if they are local and so on. This price will be same used by other vendors around him or slightly different depending on the source, there will be no haggle on the price and whatever he ask for we pay or move to next guy. The complexity of real haggle comes to the materials man made by artisans, they differ by who made it, the experience of the artisan, the complexity of the band made work and how many hours it took to made. Been a Moroccan you will still haggle the price because you’re local and have seen similar item sold by X price that’s originate from Fes artisans, and sold by X price that’s originate from another city artisans because each place specials in some special features and qualities, so you always know roughly the price range and what to expect. Same item can be bought by me for example for 15 euro while my friend can get it from same place for 10 euro, all depend on how good you are and if the guy selling made profit that day and he’s ok for letting things go with low profit. However for tourists I admit I seen prices going very high and they make large profit, we Moroccan avoid touristy places because even for us they ask for higher prices since they know if you don’t buy there is another buyer. What we usually do since we are local we buy from the source, from the artisan it self, take some experience to know for example a tagine is originally made by clay and the city X is the large producer of that clay and they are made there, same for leather, same for any other material, since you been travelling all around Morocco next time I advice you put a list of items you want to buy and google which city and place they originate from and buy it from there. I give you an example, i want a rug hand made good quality, in Rabat we have a special souk for rugs called soul Zarbia where they sell only rugs, that will be the place I buy from and not from the commons souk where everything mix is sold. If I want to get it cheaper and have time then I will travel to a city near Ifran in the mountains where the artisan make and craft it there and buy directly from them. I give you a tip, next time if you visit Morocco since you are travelling all around the country, focus your vlog on artisans, each city specialise in something, pay them a visit see their work how things are made from scratch and buy directly from the source instead from 3th of 4th reseller, you can negotiate the price with them and even ask for custom made (down side not all speak English or even French) I will say try to find some guide that will take you to them, it will be totally another face of Morocco and experience you haven’t discovered before. And don’t forget to visit where Zellige (hand made tiles) are made it’s a complex detailed world. They are in fes, and you find zellige in most luxurious place and places around the world that originate from those artisans in fes. Same for wood craft, clay craft, bronze craft….etc

We never had an experience where we thought we got ripped off or significantly overpriced but I guess it’s just a case of our comfort zone being walking into any shop and you don’t even have to talk to someone to find out a price, so perhaps it’s more laziness on our part than anything else 😅 That’s a great idea about focussing on artisans too, thanks for the suggestion! We’ll remember that for when we do come back ❤️☺️

As a Moroccan I completely agree about the monkeys. It breaks my heart. Growing up we used to go to Jamaa Elfna often as I became aware of the exploitation of monkeys, snakes .. I find myself avoiding the place altogether. Would love it if tourists would stop engaging with the wranglers so they stop. Unfortunately the only way to stop this is to stop engaging as our laws are lacking in the animal welfare department 😢

Hi , your video is well done and balanced and the 2 things you complained about are valid and understandable ,and as a moroccan I did encounter those scammers in jamaa alfina in marrakesh and I was appalled by their behaviour and their greed for money and I had to fight with one of them because he asked me for a ridiculous amount of money after I took a picture with him , those people are surely tarnishing the reputation of the country and in my opinion the authorities are not doing their job allowing them to perform their scam on tourists

As a Moroccan and resident in the UK I am proud to hear that you had a great experience. Morocco is ditching French and adopting English as the official language from 2030. This means lots of business and cultural opportunities for English speaking Brits. We do wish to see more young English people visiting and helping us transition into a European style democracy. Thank you. Hopefully one day soon the Moroccan government can ban monkeys in Marrakesh. And price tags are making it in more places. But, yes it would better to see them displayed.

Not only does the call of prayer take you back to your memories it also reminds me of Indiana Jones movies😂,. If you want a clock that automatically plays back the call to prayer at dawn, noon, dusk, sunset, and night, the five states of the day in relation to the sun then by it, Google the term Azan prayer time clock, happy days

So wonderful to see one last video from Morocco from you. I will totally miss seeing the lovely Ady! . I totally agree with your evaluation: Morocco is magnificent. I hope to go back to visit again. What bothered me most: the cats. I raised my kids with cats and would have one, except for my constant traveling. It feels like the country simply gave over their environment to the devastating impact of feral cats. I loved hearing the call to prayer. So much. However, I cannot remember hearing birds. They must be gone. I do wonder if the king has a plan for “ controlling” or eliminating the feral cat devastation? And, then, Ady🥰. You’re so right about the food! And the lovely people! Hello, As a Moroccan, I agree with you concerning the prices generally are not displayed on the product sold and the majority of Moroccans are in the obligation to enter in negotiation to have reasonable prices for the products of which we already know their prices.

It’s not the haggling as such that we didn’t enjoy, but the fact that often we had no idea what a reasonable price to pay for something would be. Can see how this would also be frustrating when you know exactly what the price should be too! There is definitely a simplicity to having price tags on things 😅

With the latest galoping inflation, the Moroccan government is actually doing something about price labelling, at least in food markets as I understand it. It's a very, very welcome initiative and I hope price labelling will become mandatory in every shop. I too, feel really, really adverse to no price indicated on anything. For sure vendors just decide what to charge you based on your appearence, or your accent. I'm Moroccan, from the diaspora's second generation. A member of my local family has to go with me whenever I need to buy something. When I'm alone, I'm charge more, sometimes a lot more than a local resident would.

We weren’t aware of that but that’s interesting to hear the government is starting to change it. That’s also really interesting that you get charged more too! A system with prices would take that stress away immediately but we do also enjoy a bit of haggling from time to time 😀

For the prices, there is a culture of bargaining and looking for the better deals, that you end up never paying the first price you hear in a shop, and as you said you get used to it in the end, and a lot of people enjoy these social interactions of back and forth.

Hi, loved your videos of Morocco. We were there at the time your videos came out. I both loved and hated Morocco. I struggled with the level of animal cruelty. Not sure if we were just really unlucky but we were at a camp site where the owners chased down and beat a really benign dog. We saw horses in terrible condition and being driven to canter. Donkey dropped dead on the road and I could go on. We loved driving through some of the vibrant towns but then we would see something shocking. Every time it happened I thought I will never come back here. I would say it was the only thing I really hated about Morocco. I had been worried that there would be packs of wild dogs and there are masses of dogs but they did not seem to be at all aggressive. I have very mixed feelings about the place but I'm glad we went and experienced it for ourselves. Your difficulty getting rabies vaccine certainly surprised us and made us think about vaccination if we were to return. Regards Angie

Very sorry to hear of your experience, we definitely didn’t see anything like you’ve described, that’s awful to hear. Hopefully you were able to enjoy other aspects of the trip, but completely understand why you might not want to return. We had heard lots of incorrect information about the rabies vaccine prior to this incident, mainly that even if you’re vaccinated you still need to take a vaccine if you’re ex poses to rabies. We’ve since learned that with a full course of vaccines and a booster 5 years after, you actually get immunity for life so we’d definitely recommend getting it. It’s pricey but worth it for peace of mind, Sarah is getting the course now for the same reason 👍

@@TheWholeWorldorNothing Based on your experience I think we would get vaccinated if we were to return. We just assumed as it is a high risk rabies country you would be able to walk into any hospital and get a rabies jab if you had been scratched or bitten. Can't imagine how stressful it must have been chasing after vaccine.

I would like to know how much will the petrol cost me driving a petrol SUV around Morocco for a month. Assuming I drive on average 200 km every other day? Ah that’s a hard one. But the fuel price when we were there for diesel was about 12 Dirham per litre, around £1. We honestly spent very little on fuel but there are so many variables it’s difficult to estimate what you might spend.

We have been here 21 days. Top thing = the people, they are super friendly and so obliging. Bottom = the rubbish, likely to be fixed if the Government intervened. They need an environmental management plan to reduce and clear waste. It is not just one area either, we saw it in the priciest home area in Agadir.

I totally agree with all of this. I actually had a monkey thrown at me I Marrakech. I felt so bad for the poor thing. I was not going to support that. Ur I also felt bad giving it back. It was hugging me. So sad!
