These are great tips thank you for sharing them! I'm only at the start of my academic research career and the only conference I have attended was with my supervisor and I felt so self conscious of being the youngest person there (23 at the time) that I pretty much just hid all day haha - wish I had watched this before

Going to my first conference this month since commencing my PhD at the start of the year, so thanks for this video. Starting to vlog about my own research and hoping this becomes more of a trend. Love seeing snippets of what other folks are up to while I have a spare minute here and there.

Good luck with the PhD, and with your channel! Do let me know how you go at the conference - I'm sure you'll ace it.

Well, not presenting this time, just networking and checking out interesting presentations. As soon as I get some fieldwork under my belt I'll give it a crack though for sure!

This was very helpful. I'm in the third year of my Ph.D. and always get very very nervous at conferences!

Hey Emma. Do you have any tips on presenting at conferences? I'm a graduate student at Oxford and have presented at one conference before, which, though extremely nerve-wracking, was a fantastic experience and did my confidence WONDERS immediately after doing it. A year later and I'm now really struggling with anxiety about ever doing it again! I don't know what has happened to my confidence, but as somebody going for academic life I'm really concerned that my anxiety will hold me back. It's OK if you don't have any specific advice, but I'll take anything! Thanks!

I ALWAYS fell nervous before presenting at conferences! I often wear a scarf around my neck as I sometimes go a bit blotchy from the nerves, so definitely recommend a turtleneck or scarf if that happens to you. Otherwise, I don't think there is much you can do except practice, and tell yourself over and over again that people are there because they are interested in your research and want to understand your project, rather than because they are out to get you. It helps if you can have a friend in the audience for moral support. If so, you can get your friend to ask you a question during the Q&A as well. Knowing that you'll get a question you can answer which will show off your knowledge can be a good confidence boost. Good luck!

Hi Emma..I would like to ask, can I present literature review in academic conferences, example I have a topic that i am interested in, then I will do research on published journals about the topic, I will put the data tohether, cite my references, can I present this in an academic conference? Is it a common practice?
