This is actually a rare moment, people have been saying things about Trump that people couldn't say about others with no fear of backlash. He was just one of those people it was ok to hate on. But suddenly it isn't I actually think that's a good thing, people should be less hateful about everyone and this was a real surprise. A month ago they could have made a joke like this and no one woudl have batted an eyelid. But I think its good that people are now going to be more careful with what they say. Also missing resulted in the death of an innocent man, that's why its hitting so hard. I am no way a fan of Trump or Biden for that matter glad I don't have to choose between either of them.

Part of me is wondering if Australia has similar laws to the US about assassination jokes where technically it isn't legal even if most people ignore that fact because frankly it is a very dumb law and it's never enforced but because Jack Black and Kyle are famous enough and the most violent and hypocritical part of the population is on the other side of the jokes they could end up in legal trouble or worse so HR swooped in and forced then to make those apologies. I do find it funny how but hurt these people are about the jokes when I know enough conservatives to know their fave jokes are assassination jokes about biden or whoever is currently in the spotlight so this is just tit for tat lmao

@@georgeprice4212The weird thing about the John Lennon thing is he never said it/ meant it the way it was delivered to the masses. I am by no means a John Lennon fan, but I do know a reporter spiced up what he said in order to make a better article (or something like that). The fact that Jack Black is getting most of the public hate when Kyle made the off color comment does baffle me, but doesn't surprise me. Since Jack is more publicly known, he's just a better and more "fun" target than Kyle for the hyper-reactors. I've been bothered enough times by liberal tactlessness that I am actually shocked when it backfires on them. Even with my own political leanings, I found what was said to be tacky and poorly timed, but par for the course. Cancelable, no. It does make me put Jack Black in the same mental box I have for many Hollywood personalities as petty, cowardly, and self interested .

Not overkill at all. The old term, 'think before you talk' comes into play. Celebrities should be aware that they are not only saying things, to their crowd, but they will be heard a lot more by a lot more people besides the people at their soap box stage. Maybe a little THOUGHT process is needed when they already know that, unless they just want to retire early.

Kyle Gass 100% doesn't deserve the controversy, he made a dumb edgy joke, but like, everybody makes dark jokes? The fact that its okay to joke about 9/11, which was a much darker incident in American history, but when you joke about the douchebag Donald Trump, after he SURVIVES an assasination, now its a problem? Like, there's one KZbin who make a meme compilation an hour or so after the Donald Trump situation, and the title was literally "you laugh, you lose an ear" and the thumbnail was Donald Trump raising his fist after getting shot, and THATS more appropriate than one of the lightest, and most inoffensive cases of dark humor ever?

In my opinion, further context surrounding the event hurt Kyle's joke. I'm not "offended" at his quip at all (I detest Trump as much as the next guy), but I think the fact that an ordinary bystander actually died from the sniper (In front of his own family, no less) makes the whole thing more tragic than if it was ONLY Trump getting injured, and certainly made Kyle's joke come off in poorer taste than he likely meant. I still 100% believe that there's been a MAJOR misunderstanding and overreaction to all this, but I can at least understand why Jack and Kyle may have regretted what they said in hindsight.

Jack Black is still doing movies for young audiences and such, he’s not risking his career for a stupid joke. What a weird expectation. If me and my best friend had a band or project that was worth millions of dollars I would straight up tell them “if you do or say something dumb im distancing myself professionally”. And they should understand that or THEY are the shitty friend. Tearing down something you built together for a dumb joke? Just think before you speak, it was so avoidable.

Even if I don’t find the joke funny, don’t personally agree with the duo politically, and also thought the timing was a not really good, I still understand the D are a COMEDY rock group at the end of the day and don’t think they should be cancelled, and hope the best for Jack and Kyle in the future. I do understand that this tour cancellation is probably to protect Jack landing movie roles, as it is his main source of income. I do want to mention that Senator Ralph (whatever), who is calling for deportation is the only member of his party to be in the entire Australian Parliament in Canberra, but the media and Twitter run with it. Anyway, all political violence is bad, and if the D tours again, they might have to take the Tool (or any Maynard band) route, and ban phones from shows.

The joke was too soon or in poor taste, but good grief not something that Jack Black should use to end a friendship over. Plus it pays to know your crowd. When the lead singer of the Dixie Chicks made the statement we are also ashamed of President Bush, it pretty much meant the end of their career. It didn't take long for almost all country music radio stations to ban them. If she had made some kind of remark about Obama no doubt it would have probably made them more popular. Instead the woke conservatives cancelled them. Tenacious D is a rock band. The likelihood they would be canceled is slim. Jack Back, and Kyle Gass should have just apologized and left it at that. Even the crowd in the audience laughed when they heard it. That shows they where in the right crowd to tell that joke to begin with.

I look at it this way. You have the right to make a joke even if it's in terrible taste. But people also have the right to re-evaluate how they feel about a comedic artist when they no longer find their comedy funny. If I were performing in a public space and a friend of mine performing with me broadcast a joke like that for the world to hear, without running it by me first that he was gonna do that, I'd consider that incredibly insensitive because now I have to live with the fallout of people's response to that joke, too. So I can understand Jack Black (at least, after having thought it over after the show - his reaction DURING the show seemed to be complicit as you pointed out) wanting to distance himself as quickly as possible, and Kyle himself later realizing the shitstorm he'd brought down on himself and his friend. Sure, WE all know it's a joke. I'm not entirely sure that the cult of personality surrounding Trump is inclined to take it as such - and sure, major hypocrisy on their part when they're constantly making thinly veiled (or not at all veiled) physical threats against their opponents. But still - I wouldn't want to end up on those guys' shitlist over a bad joke. Plus it just feeds into their whole "the libs are as bad as they say we are" false narrative.

As someone who supports Trump, I thought the joke was just ill-timed and poor in taste, but I'm not offended over it. It was just a poor taste of a joke. However, that's my opinion. I don't want to see them canceled or break up over it. If anything an apology to the public would've sufficed, and they did! It seems like this is mostly Jack Black's decision. Regardless, this doesn't change my opinion or KG or JB! I'll continue to support Tenacious D and hopefully they come back soon. Also Jon, I haven't heard one person call for the 'canceling' of Tenacious D! If they do they're idiots. They canceled themselves (for now)! haha I don't want to see it happen.
