Great bag but even the 32L is not easy to transport a gimbal in. The side pocket is easy to load with one but your gimbal won't last long. Took me 5 minutes to bash my Weebil S. End of that experiment. The back tripod holder might have worked but the molly clip straps are throw away. The clips are ridiculously hard to open. You'd need to if you attached a tripod or gimbal there. There are probably other better molly straps or web that would hold a gimbal nicely. For now, it fits okay in the rear zip storage with the top of the zipper open. Be prepared to wrestle with the interior velcro dividers for at least an hour. It is well worth it when at last you realize there is a workable arrangement. The side entry is a killer feature. A lowpro gadget bag (viewpoint cs 80 - indispensible) fits through it perfectly!
@peterwaisnor22412 жыл бұрын
Gimbals are always a challenge. The perfect combination of delicate and unwieldy. Using the MOLLE straps would protect it better since it's against a larger surface. The clips take some getting used to, but they will get easier to open with practice. The key demand for them was that they would hold tight no matter what size tripod was being attached.

How is this bag compared to the Nomatic Peter Mckenon?
@TenbaBags7 ай бұрын
There are sort of two parts to the answer: what customers tell us, and what we know is different from the design side. What customers tell us every week is that the Tenba bag is more comfortable to carry. We hear from lots of users who own both bags, and that's consistently the feedback we receive. On the design side, the biggest difference is that the Tenba bag will hold more gear in a similar sized pack, and that has everything to do with modular vs. non-modular. If we were comparing a Tenba bag to Tenba's sister brand, Shimoda, it would be the same. When a pack is modular, there's just a loss of space in little amounts all over that add up to big amount in the end. A quarter of an inch here and there adds up to 2-3 inches in the end. A Tenba Axis pack is wall-to-wall gear, and the result is easily 10-15% more gear will fit compared to a modular bag.

Anyone who is debating on upgrading from v1 to v2 axis or having a bigger laptop be warned: by moving the laptop slot, it's not well communicated, but the laptop holder got smaller. While the V1 24L backpack easily fits my 16 inch powerhouse laptop (whis is considered slim among high performance or gaming laptops), the 32L V2 is a very tight fit, and the 24L V2 is a no go. I ended up getting 0 day used V1's for this particular reason, if you got bigger than MBP16 sized laptops, get the old ones. Don't know why the reduction in size of the laptop slot and only focusing on the fitment of the macbooks. (Ok I read the comment on the move below but the real estate got still smaller which is a shame) Nonetheless apart from these baffling things these are really well made bags, I can only recommend them
@TenbaBags10 ай бұрын
Yes, large laptops are always a challenge. If we make a bag to fit larger laptops, the bag is larger, and then it's quite literally a different size. Moving the laptop sleeve to the front greatly improved the usability, the ease of access, the ability to organize the camera compartment, and the speed of removing the laptop at the airport. So it had to be done.

The kit you listed will fit in a 20L. The only question is the size of your laptop, if that's a requirement. The 20L fits a 14-inch laptop. The 24L fits a 16-inch. Solstice has entirely different construction from Axis. The Axis packs have 3 points of camera access (more zippers, more panels, more material), and are more robust, durable and water-repellent than Solstice. Axis was designed to be a virtually bulletproof daily driver bag for professional photographers and filmmakers. Solstice was designed to be a lightweight and secure pack for lots of travel.

The new luggage handle strap is a welcome added feature but I thought it is a no brainer. Unfortunately it is not included in Axis v1. The change of the laptop storage from back to front compartment is not ideal due to unbalanced weight distribution. Most importantly, it is possible to take away your laptop without your notice while you are carrying the bag.
@TenbaBags2 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern, and I'm sure there are places in the world where this could happen, but many of our other bags have front-access laptop sleeves, and we never hear reports of laptop theft from our bags in situations like that. In addition, the laptop no longer competes with the camera compartment for space, and opening the camera compartment is easier without 4 pounds of computer in the rear sleeve. It our testing, the new version was a far better all-around solution.

I'm right-handed, am I the only person that would prefer the side access to be on the other (right when wearing) side?
@peterwaisnor22412 жыл бұрын
As I wrote to Alex Forst elsewhere in the comments, the justification from the design team for the side access being where it is, is that regardless of whether a person is left handed or right handed, the camera grip is grabbed with the right hand. When the pack is tipped off the left shoulder and swung up, the right hand is positioned to grab the camera, and the left hand is positioned to hold open the side access flap.

@TenbaBags10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. We'll definitely pass along to our design team. Two things about the tripod storage. First, a tripod will store very quickly in the side pocket. It is reinforced to fit one. Second, two tripod legs will slide easily behind the front straps, leaving one leg out front. When all three legs are dropped into the extendable tripod cup that comes out of the bottom of the pack, it will hold very securely. And this doesn't require adjusting the front straps at all. This is the quickest way to add a tripod to the front.

It seems most camera bag manufacturers miss this as well, even though digital pics are, well, almost free. For example, a 500mm f4 attached to a pro DSLR, or a 600mm attached or unattached, or a 400mm etc etc. Brand X drone? A 200-500? These the the very very first questions a photog is wondering about, waaaayyy before the other bag features. Namely, “Will it carry my gear?” Manufacturers are thinking about the bag in their terms. Think of it as a user.

Great bag, but pointing out the straps dont touch the ground and wont get your clothes dirty is pointless, because when you open the bag from the back the part of the bag that will be against your clothes is actually resting on the ground while the bacg is open... If you had the straps attached there, the straps would protect the bag from getting dirty, and the part of the straps thats resting on the ground is the part of the strap that wont be against your clothes.
@TenbaBags Жыл бұрын
It is true that the rear panel can touch the ground, but since the bag is deep, the rear panel does not touch the ground fully. It's at an angle. Our statements are really not from us but from our users, who constantly comment that the bag does not transfer dirt to their clothes.
