This is a video of my 2015 Chevy Silverado RCSB 5.3L with a
3" Borla ATAK Crate Muffler and Kooks 1-3/4 long tube headers driving with the camera mounted inside the cab on the rear window by the passenger headrest.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Educate yourself on this because it's important. Dealers/Manufacturers cannot void your warranty simply because you bolted aftermarket performance parts on your vehicle. There must first be a mechanical failure and THEN it is up to THEM to prove that your bolt on part was the cause of that failure.

alan hernandez It would sound similar but a tad quieter and I mean just a couple decibels max. It may sound better and cleaner with less drone since the catback you have is engineered and designed specifically for our trucks.

I am banging my head around whether to get the s type or the atak. I have a 19' fiberglass boat that I take up north a lot I just don't want it to loud inside, how is it with the radio on and can you carry a conversation with someone in the back?

I had the Borla ATAK cratemuffler which is a universal muffler of sorts so I wouldn't compare it completely with the ATAK catback for these trucks as their mufflers are designed specifically for these trucks and may drone less. I have a regular cab so nobody to talk to back there either but it is pretty loud in the cab at all times. Probably the second or third loudest of all I tried. Just sound and resonance not annoying drone by any means. That's part of the reason I like it so much.

With the warrant you can go from the cats back I just did a magnaflow exhaust to start but you can go from the cats back and it wont void the warranty atleast not with my dealer

Was the exhaust popping or was that some other rattle I was hearing?

The seat is rubbing the back glass as I twist in it around the turns if that's the sound you hear. The exhaust never popped unless I tuned it to which I never did in these videos.

Matt Earle did you cut the factory muffler and exhaust pipe off from the muffler back and pipe from that with 3 inch? Opposed to purchasing a factory cat back exhaust? Thanks.

Would you recommend getting headers for a daily driver? I have the cat-back Borla but I'm just not sure if adding the headers would give it drone. What mpg were you getting with the headers?

I had no issues with headers on my daily. Just make sure to get good quality headers and you'll be fine. Drone will be related to the muffler more than anything so you can change it out if needed. Headers will give more power, more sound and more rasp. All of which I wanted. MPG should only go down if you can't keep your foot out of it because you enjoy the sound too much. I was only getting 13mpg on average but I drive hard on curvy roads and never on highway.

@@MGweightsNCars you tuned? With headers, you will hear more valvetrain noise through the thinner wall header tubing vs. stock cast iron manifolds. It will sound almost like exhaust leaks. You will need a good tune after headers which may turn desensitize the knock sensors a tiny bit to allow for this sound. You will also hear detonation easier if you are not running 93 octane.

@@mattofearle i got my headers installed catless 3” and went back to the shop because I thought i heard an exhaust leak on one of the v bands. Turns out its the headers making a tingly sound that i never knew about since they were my first headers. 2017 z71 single cab 5.3

@tartamuditis yes. That's normal. Headers are a much thinner tubing when compared to the thick stock exhaust manifolds so you will hear what sounds like an exhaust leak but is just the headers kind of echoing the sounds of the exhaust firing against the thin material.

You sold me on the Borla Atak Crate muffler. I have a question though. I am thinking about running true dual Borla Atak crate mufflers, do you think they will fit side by side considering the layout of the undercarriage on this type truck? Thanks again

John Wilson yes. They should fit side by side. It may be tight, but should fit about where the stock muffler sits.

It is a universal ATAK single in and out 3" cratemuffler. Not a system or the same muffler from a system.

Bro how would you rate the drone when cruising? My corsa sport has no drone but I feel it's too quiet. Thinking about getting the Atak muffler.

I don't like rating drone bro. If you say Corsa is 0 then ATAK is 3 maybe but it all depends on what you call drone versus interior resonance. I'm also just a single cab which I feel could have worse drone but less resonance or vice versa depending on your definition of each.

@@grandizer4531 drone to me is that annoying and repetitive harmonic tone. Almost vibrates your chest and makes you nauseous. Lol where the sound pulses are fighting each other and create this unbalanced tone that just doesn't let you think. Interior resonance is where the volume of the exhaust resonates inside the cab which I like. I like hearing my exhaust inside as well as outside but a good aggressive tone that stays steady not pulsating or overbearing. That's just me. I mean drone is interior resonance but a bad kind.

1-3/4 may be a tiny bit quieter and less deep compared to 1-7/8 but both will be louder unless you put a larger muffler on.

Right now I have 3” pipe from cats with a 5” inch tip with a carven tr I love how it sounds and my tip makes it pop when slowing down , I might go with the long tubes & see how it is if it’s too loud I go back too a 2” pipe instead of a 3” maybe it will quit it down

@@5.3david17 factory tubing is around 2.75" so I would not recommend going smaller than that. You won't notice too much of a difference in 2.75" vs. 3" either. You may need a bigger muffler or add a resonator. The TR will resonate more in the cab with headers but still be mild at cruising speeds. It will be louder overall with headers though.

I bought them used and were a good deal plus they are plenty for a N/A 5.3L. Second, I plan on going turbo later. If I was going with a supercharger, I would have went with 1-7/8" for sure.

Definitely worth it. Power gains are there but you want to tune with intake and header mods plus the transmission is the biggest gain in my opinion with a tune.

Doing the same thing found a cold air intake and going with american racing headers, just doing the borla atak muffler because they dont make a 3inch true dual kit and a tune cost is just under 4k with the headers and tune being the most expensive things

@@skylergarner6698 the LT engine is a different story so make sure he knows what he is doing. I got mine running great with torque management 100% stock. It will kill the transmission if you mess with it too much.

Adrian Gonzalez I had the Carven R and it was a tad louder but sounded just like a straight pipe and not as clean as I'd like. The ATAK just sounds more aggressive and mean.

fouryearproductions MPG didn't change all that much. I can get up to 20 but average 15 with a severe case of lead foot living out some seriously curvy roads and no highway driving.

Lucas cantrell It is off on the curvy road sections of this video, but it is turned back on the interstate portion starting at 3:30. When I hold up 4 fingers that means it's in V4 and then wave my hand to show it's back in V8 mode.

LT. It had chrome grille, headlight trim, mirror covers, door handles and bumpers and I colored them to match the paint. Also had 17" aluminum wheels originally too.

billcharlene1450 y is just easier and cheaper. I had a y and single 3" on my old truck then switched to dual 2.5" and an x-pipe and didn't like it as much. Not as deep and quieter plus 2 new mufflers.

X pipe will help with exhaust scavenging at mid to higher rpms in the only real difference I watched a summit video that explained it better but if ur going for lots of power the xpipe would be ur best bet. I'm putting a supercharger on my truck so I'm going to run duals

tyler56ford Everyone's opinion on "drone" is different. This muffler does resonate in the cab being this loud you have to hear it, but it has never been a sound that bothers me and I say no drone per say. The Corsa is no drone and very minimal resonance too. It's sound truly just comes out the tip and you are hearing that alone. I like to hear my exhaust more and that's why I like the ATAK best. This is the ATAK Cratemuffler and not the ATAK catback designed for these trucks so it will be somewhat different.
