I really like the character of the grandfather in this. No matter what he was or did prior to retiring, he is now a great person as the grandfather. He speaks when he believes he needs to and keeps quiet when he finds it would do no good to interfere. What a wise grandfather. He knows Cang Xuan is obsessed with Xiaoyao and trying to be her hero, the only one she relies on etc... but other than trying to get him to support her w/o interfering in her life he cannot stop him. He wants Xiaoyao to be happy and tries to foster the things she wants in spite of Cang Xuan with his selfish dealings. He helped him to get where he is and has to deal with his quirky obsession over his cousin. He is very observant of them and knows them better than anyone else.

Yes, both the grandfather (King Xiyan) and father (King Haoling) are great in Lost You Forever (长相思). It's best if we don't think about the things they did in the prequel, Once Promised (曾许诺).

Xiao Yao tries to tell herself that it's a mistaken illusion after it happens because she knows that she isn't supposed to let Xiang Liu enter her dreams.

Cang Xuan spread the rumor in order to force King Haoling to revoke Xiao Yao's title and Haoling clan membership. Cang Xuan was concerned about how devastated Xiao Yao would be if she where made to choose between her loyalty to King Haoling and her loyalty to him, and didn't want to put her in that impossible situation. King Haoling understood Cang Xuan's intention in spreading the rumor. That's why he said he raised Cang Xuan well after he issued the decree to revoke Xiao Yao's title. The novel says this from Cang Xuan's perspective: 所以，才将本该三年前发生的战争推迟到今日，才宁可让高辛王猜到他的用意，也要先斩断高辛王和小夭的父女关系。 That’s why a war that should have begun three years ago was delayed until today. I don't like Xiang Liu because he's a blatant abuser. But Cang Xuan is more sinister, because of how he engineers his control though soft manipulation. He intends to isolate Xiao Yao by undermining her relationship with her father and leaving her himself as her only support system and attempts to sabotage her relationship with Jing. He cares not for the emotional harm that results, just as long as he gets what he wants. He is sick.

So Cang Xuan intentionally raised those rumors so that the King of Haoling would disown her, and then he could raise a war at Haoling. Also, he made her take the surname Xiling because then only he could marry her right? If they had the same surname he can't marry her. But if her mother's surname is Xiling then whats her mother's relation with Xiyan?

I have a feeling that her mother was adopted. In some series when they need a princess the emperor would choose one and made her a princess hence grandpa kept saying my recognized granddaughter. I believe her mom was made princess to go to war but not by birth. I think that’s why XX said she is not a princess don’t call her that. Spoiler Alert ‼️ I was desperately waiting for S2 but after watching up to 14 episodes and some short clips of upcoming episodes, I’ve lost interest in watching it more. Cuz the so called happy ending is not happy ending at all. Xiaoyao is selfish character. How can she be sồ unaware of the feelings of two main male characters( Xiangliu, Cang Xuan). The tragic death of XL is really very heartbreaking. He’s the most miserable and lonely character in this drama. And Cang Xuan, despite being a King, couldn’t even get what he wanted. He could see his childhood love ran away with someone else. Xiaoyao and Tushan Jung are my least favourite characters. I know people might criticise me. But at the end I’d like to ask what the drama title suggests ( Lost you Forever) who lost whom if the ending is happy???

In our world story and time....there is chaos in all directions. Xiaoyao has said in her conversation with Xiang Liu , that she doesn't want to forgive her mother....which ...actually.... is an important revelation of the human spirit. Forgiving is easy when you WANT to.. Getting to that point of truly forgiving is a process of truthful introspection and an unwillingness to carry the burden of anger and pain for another moment.
