You think that people are treated -regardless of skin color, religion, etc.- the same in places like India, Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, Thailand, Somalia, etc,??? HA. NO WAY!! That a light-skinned person is treated the same way in India? That a Christian can worship in Pakistan? That a Muslim can in Burma? It takes a lot for Kate McKinnon to break up (Louis CK's accent sounds like Eddie Izzard doing his "voice synthesizer" schtick). The bigotry against Italian immigrants is historically real, even if the specific jokes weren't -- something many American forget as they level the same bigotries against immigrants from the Middle East and Latin America.

@PhillyFrank17 жыл бұрын
Check your history, Jack "Poontaint" -- Italians, especially Sicilians, were stereotyped as naturally violent and crime-prone. And what is the religion of Italy, oh ya, Catholicism. Check out what Protestants in 19th-century America thought of "Papists." Heck, there were even questions of whether JFK could be a loyal President because, as a Catholic, he might put the Vatican before U.S. interests.

MrWatchingclosely Hey...I know your comment was a joke, but I’m part Romanian and the G-word is actually deeply offensive. It’s a huge slur in my family and culture. To many other Romanians, the G-word being used to describe us is the same as using the N-word for black people. Just thought I’d let you know because a lot of people don’t realize that word has an extremely dark and upsetting meaning in Romanian history.

@@kidkique Are you going to run a survey? There's so many Italian jokes and stereotypes on entertainment and no one whines about it. They'll be more offended if you cut pasta with a knife and rightfully so, that's disrespectful, but to make fun of pasta? Nah.

There's a simple reason. The "Italians are not even real white people" is a thing from 80 to 100 years ago. You know who will never cross that line? People of color. You can joke about a stereotype no one believes. A stereotype that causes you to be racially profiled at shops and grocery stores and by police in 2023 is fundamentally different, no?
