The Acerbis tank is a step in the right direction to reduce the top heavy feeling of the T7. It holds more fuel in the lower half of the tank than the original, and is 1.5kgs lighter. So with 16 litres of fuel, it feels lighter and less top heavy than the original tank. Even filled up it feels heavier, but not really top heavier, if you know what I mean. It is worth noting that the T7's top heavy feeling is due to a number of factors, not just the high tank. The engine is mounted higher than normal (its a solid lump at 53 kgs), and the headlight and rally tower assembly is ridiculously heavy. The headlight alone is over 3 kgs. Someone should develop a lightweight "non-rally" tower for general use, which will make a huge difference. I know this because I have tested my bike with a simple headlight and shroud and it transforms the bike.
@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for chiming in! Yeah the engine is mounted very high up in the frame. Look at a T7 and an 890 side by side and it’s very obvious 😅 Yeah I’ve heard the headlight is heavy, perhaps that’s my next project. I’d love to do something simple, like a couple of Baja lights and that’s it, make it almost naked 😁

Bugger tank and more range is a no brainer (especially in Australia.) you’re not always going to have it brimming full, so the extra weight is only a concern some of the time…and I suspect for many, often this will be as you head down sealed roads towards where the real riding will begin. More fuel is just another facet of ‘be prepared’. Unless the tank is shaped like a giant square box with spikes on it, I’ll take a bigger one every time!

Im 5 foot 7inches tall and 140 pounds. I love the T7. Do not think it is top heavy at all. Not sure why people say its top heavy when it isnt. It is top heavy compared to a KTM that carries its fuel on the sides. to me the Toureg feels the same. Both feel like 450 pound bikes. Do not stay away from the T7 because of people saying its top heavy. They are meant to be ridden and ridden fast. If you cant ride then thats probably why it feels top heavy. It is a tall bike.

Thanks for being the one big rider to do reviews. Similar size looking for an ADV, more on-road than off (off would mostly be gravel, no single track). T7 are nowhere to be found in the US, so thinking KTM 890, KTM 690 or Aprilia 660. Any thoughts on these from a big guys perspective? Would love to keep lightweight but I know that would be miserable on the highway, but don't plan on much of that either, mostly backroads to enjoy the views and less idiots, I mean traffic.
@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын
My pleasure sir, and thanks for watching! Based on what you write here I would rule the 690 out straight away. The "middleweight" adv bikes are perfect on gravel, the 690 shines on tighter and more technical stuff. There are lots of other bikes in this category that would suit your needs, like the new V Strom (older one as well), Honda AT & the new Transalp, Yamaha Tracer 700/900. Both 890 and Tuareg 660 would suit your needs, but I question dealer network with the Aprilia.

What about the fuel gauge? Any change in the indication of the fuel level? Is half a tank still half a tank? I guess everything else needs to go out of the stock tank too like fuel pump? How long did it take you for the installation?
@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын
Ah good questions, I should have covered that. It’s just a simple measuring arm, so it will show full for much longer, and when it reaches the height of the stock fuel tank, it will be accurate, so works really well. Installation is easy but involving. The fuel pump is a direct swap. Installation took about an hour. There’s a video on YT with a man showing every step very thoroughly, it comes up if you search for it. Was to great help when I installed mine 😊

@@JohannesDalenMC Thanks that makes sense. I noticed I don't get the milage on the Autobahn as with my Tracer. The Tenere is guzzling a bit more fuel due to a different gearing I guess. Maybe I get the tank.

I just added my tank and paid attention over a long ride. When the first bar on the fuel gauge disappears, it is about 2 gallons (8L) down. after that it does work normally. When reserve comes on it has 1 gallon left.

So, with all the modifications you have made to your Tenere, would you still choose it over the Tuareg? Or is the Tenere now the superior motorcycle?
@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын
Good question - I would probably buy the Tuareg if I had to choose between the two right now, but I still like my T7 very much. T7 is not superior, I could throw all kinds of money on this bike, but it would still not be able to compete with the lower center of gravity of the Tuareg. The suspension is probably a few notches better on my bike though, but haven’t been able to test it enough to say with certainty.
@theunheardprophet4315 Жыл бұрын
With all this added, it might soon be time to look at the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. It is lighter than the T7 (and more so if you let it undergo a diet), has more grunt, still good suspension front and rear, is less top heavy, ... 🤷🏻♂️

I'm a bit confused 1. You said it's 1.5kg lighter even with the full tank 2. You said the bike is more top heavy than stock.. How if it's lighter? 3. You recommended spring upgrades in the front if installing this tank. Why if its lighter? And if it is heavier momentarily after refueling it will be lighter than stock most of the time going to empty tank? I'm most interested in how much lighter the hardware is compared to the stock hardware. So without any fuel 🙂 I Appreciate the answers if you can give some.
@JohannesDalenMC11 ай бұрын
Hey there friend! Sorry if it wasn't clear, you know how it is to get all the details correct, and be able to say it how you want it on video ;) 1. It is with the amount of fuel the stock T7 tank has, so 16l inside the 23l Acerbis tank. 2. With the Acerbis tank full at 23l, it feels even top heavier than the stock tank at 16, which is pretty obvious. 3. Yes, when the Acerbis tank is full it's heavier and therefore you'll need stiffer springs. Stock metal tank is 1.5 kg heavier than the plastic Acerbis if I recall correctly. Hope this clarified things 😁

@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын

Strange, I have lived in Baja for 7+ years.. and fuel capacity is a thing for many reasons, infrequent gas stations and when you get there 87 is usually available and rarely 91 octane or better. Adventure/dual sport is all one thing and road manners are the rule and bikes that can be ridden off road is the exception.. so with technology like Google and others.. you know where you are going often and if gas is available, the tank is just a permanent and more convenient option than Jerry-cans..in the segment lots of silly straw man arguing about weight, in US rider is normally 190-220 lbs and w small amount of gear and,500lbs motorcycle why all the pretend about being nibble and light feeling large part of audience has massive aluminum top and side cases or stuffed soft luggage and a gallon extra is a significant issue? Come on.. honesty about adventure is critical.. manufacturers telling old middle age men that they will be banging through single track and doing 5ft high whooops at 50+mph while smiling and looking young and cool. 700+ pounds of any motorcycle is not agile and a gallon of gas doesn't make a difference to mass majority of the riders.. Next will be a bunch of chubby men discussing the edges of downhill snow skiing and does it help performance at 80mph in icy condition?or which surf board is best when trying to rip on 50ft waves

Spot on Randy. Amazes me how much people fuss over weight for what are essentially gravel rd touring bikes. Yes,they will knock out a lot of mild 4wd tracks,some sand and other conditions if needed,but they are not offroad bikes. Sure,in the right hands they can do dome formidable terrain but for average Joe's- they're primarily a touring bike for all roads. We really need to drop the term "Offroad"- that's what I ride on my dirt squirters. And yes,I do own one of these big pigs,great for it's designed parameters. I think it's time we drop the term "Adventure" from riding a motorbike too,take a look folks,at some old black and white photos from the 1920's showing her on a clunked out ol Ajs smashing out the miles on a rutted out dirt track to get to the Saturday night dance at Bumf@#kville hall. NOW that was somewhat adventurous!! Enjoy whatever it is your riding people ,but don't get too caught up in the Marketing departments hyperbole . Gotta go, there's some clouds for this old man to yell at...

I have the same tank for the same reason - much better range. Is it wider though? I know it is slightly taller, but as it uses the stock side panels and mounts, doesn’t that mean the width is the same as the stock tank? Oh and I switched back from a locking fuel cap on the Acerbis to the vented cap as the vented cap leaks too much fuel when you drop the bike.
@JohannesDalenMC Жыл бұрын
Yeah it can't be wider since the panels fit - did I say that in the video? I mean, it's bigger, bulgier, makes the bike look bigger and heavier. So if it really helps prevent wind hitting the rider I'm not really sure, but it feels like it does. Yeah I can imagine the vented cap leaks lots of fuel when tipped over - I haven't tipped over in a while on the T7, but on the FE350, hundreds of times 😅
