One of the challenges of servicing a Tenere 700 is changing the spark plugs. Access is limited so one of Yamaha Tenere biggest fans and one of Australia's most well known off road motorcycle editors and publisher Andrew 'Clubby' Clubb gives you a guide through the process of changing the Tenere 700 spark plugs.

You can replace both plugs from the right of the bike by removing the plastic bit holding the wire harness, zip tie that out of the way and use two universal joints to reach down to the plugs. Don’t even need to remove the tank after the plastic bit is discarded (eg the second time you replace the plugs you only need to remove right fairing and have the right tool)

Ditto...my thoughts exactly. Surely any pre-requisite for a proper 'adventure' bike is that it can be easily maintained in the field. From what I've seen, this isn't the case with the T7. Shame.

Well I'll be saving this video to my phone and hopefully never have to refer to it at the Turon River crossing. Well done boys. Dave's real talent, giving the Professor a real run for his money. Well filmed Lance. Clubby, bursting with commentary talent. A very useful video, but scares the crap out of me. :)

I though on buying a T7, but since I live in a remote area and I must do my bike maintenance, after watching the video I've decided that I better keep my KLR. This is a job I never want to do.

A very thorough job indeed! Glad to see someone else do this before I have to attempt it. Now, if someone can come up with a half-hour workaround method for the plugs, it would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Dave for those kind words , it’s was clubby that inspired me to go for it :):) and Lance was my wingman on the side :):)

I usually look for oil and filters servicing, spark plugs, and somo other usual things, that plays a very important part of my decision when i change my bike, brands should look easy of manteinance too... I'm going to take a look to the new transalp, gs750 and 790...

Adam Reiman and his mate completely flooded a t7 in a river, they didnt take out the spark plugs, they just lifted up the bike and drained out the air filter. Then rode away...t7's are awesome.

Wow a ton of work to remove sparkplugs, had I know I might not have bought the T7 coming from a boxer GS where sparplug removal takes about 2 min - but then again the T 7 is such a joy it might just be worth it ;-)

Darned, I just bought a T7. I'm not looking forward to that job. I just sold an oil cooled BMW R1200GSA and complained about how complicated a clutch job would be. Plug changes were easy! Well, at least it is simple to change the plugs on my Ducatis and my Husky.

Good video but not good design in my opinion. An adventure bike is likely to need trailside repairs including de-watering and ease of access to some parts like plugs is important.
@ricardosacub
@ricardosacub 2 жыл бұрын
I'm noticing all new adventures bikes are loosing the sense of true adventure. I think that in Europe or North America you can easily find a good workshop to do hard job if you have problems with your bike. But for example here in Peru, we only have good workshops in the capital. That means that If you have a problem you have to send the bike to a city which is 3 days away. I just miss the times when bikes were more simple.

All that to change plugs, that is insane. I wouldn't touch that job until the bike had 100,000 miles on it and it won't start any more. Thats twice as bad as KLR 650 plug change and twice as many.. Drop the radiator, no way. Do I even want to know what it takes to do a valve shim inspection? If only we could bring back the Yamaha 250 2 stroke, no valves, easy plug change, air filter change. My opinion on the T7 just took a big nose dive.
