Gurren Lagann got the perfect ending it deserved: some things are closed and some others are left to interpretation/imagination. I would’ve liked a prequel series with Lord Genome defending Earth when the Anti-Spiral attacked for the first time… It was great to revisit these series with you, thank you and make your drills create the heavens.

@@codafett friend this is not dragon ball, think well although simon has god powers, he can't revive Nia not because he can't, but because he doesn't want to because he remembers this in dragon ball the characters are revived because it is necessary, but in gurren lagann no, kamina should not revive because otherwise the future would be affected and as Nia should not revive either, but even so she is still alive in the heart

People around here saying it has one of the best ending while I sympathize that some are emotionally divided by the story’s end… However, beyond the actual end, I personally believe this is without a doubt… The Greatest. Final Battle. In ALL of fiction. It really set such a high bar of how an epic climactic finale of a battle should feel, as well as the absolute scale and the themes presented fighting over each other really giving the feeling like this is the ultimate “Battle of Fate”, it is the finale I strive to one day to use as an inspiration of how I want an epic finale to go when I write one day.

One of the absolute best finales in all of fiction. The tone, character work, animation, writing, visuals, music, and more made this incredible. Ironically one of the few things holding the finale back is the series itself. The finale is divisive because it had to choose between the two themes of the series. The first theme of the show was "Kick Logic to the Curb", by this logic there should have been a Golden Ending. Kamina was able to resurrect himself, and even get his spirit into the memory labrynth, so moving souls around is definitely possible. Heck, Lord Genome showed that you can make people immortal. The series could have ended with the entire cast reunited as one ready to go on an infinite series of adventures across the multiverse for all time. This obviously is not the theme the show focused on or the ending it went with. The second theme of the show, especially post time skip is succession. They focus on the idea of people digging tunnels, but once the tunnels are dug, who uses them and who can expand them further? You just build everything for the future, while yes the themes of the Spiral means that you yourself should grow as a person every day, becoming a bit stronger, it also means that in the future of the world there should be more for those who inherit the future to have. By accepting the actions of the present and allowing them to become the past while shaping the future, you are able to build a legacy. This is why Simon allows the dead to stay dead. On Nia's end, the expression, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened" comes to mind. She grew as a person, gained a more solid personality, emotions, an understanding of the world, a life of her own, fell in love, and in the end she died just as any living being did. Her own life couldn't last forever preserved indefinitely, the point of the final battle was telling the anti-spirals they couldn't preserve the universe indefinitely. People have to let go, move on, and move forward. It is by moving forward that growth can happen. If Simon always remained Gurren's pilot, Gimmy would never get the chance. Growth over time even in the face of death, and doing your part in life so that the people who come after you can enjoy the fruits of your labor are what the series wanted to emphasize. However, that serious and realistic message is logical and therefore directly contradicts the message of "Kicking Logic to the Curb" and certainly seems out of place in a Super Robot show where the protagonists fought in an extra dimensional space and absorbed the big bang which certainly makes it seem like the shows tone should support the first message of the show leading towards the first ending. This results in the shows tone and message contradicting each other. In the end it is up to the audience to decide what message of the show resonates the most with them to decide if they think the actions taken in this episode, especially those pertaining to Simon's decision not to perform an act of God, are reasonable given the known information and how it has been presented.

Simon's left eye spirals as he ages in the last scene because his spiral power increases with age. Simon dares to grow old without using his spiral power. And the reason he did not raise the dead is because he decided to live as a human being, not as a god. Simon left everyone because he decided to leave the world to a new generation. He left because he decided to leave the world in the hands of a new generation.

TTGL is one of the GOATs of all anime... a mecha anime too - I don't even like 'em! But the story, characters, artwork... everything... was just so damn fun and emotional and exciting! IMO, being 27 episodes - and not 600 with spin-off movies - is perfect. Pace never really drops, there's very little filler... and there's an ending that has you excited to see the final second. I've shown TTGL to people who don't watch anime, and don't watch foreign anything; so far I've got them hooked @100% success rate, Japanese w/subtitle version too.

If you never allow the younger generation to go through hardships and choose their own direction in life, then they become dependent on you the previous generation. But what happens if you just all of a sudden died or went missing. When such a big problem appears no one qualified with the experience or strength will be able to handle the situation. At least thats the logic behind that phrase.

Granted, given that Simon could change his mind if it were something he truly wanted, death’s permanence is still slightly undercut, but I digress. Imagine telling this to a member of the “older generation.” ‘Hey, yeah, I know you like living and all, but the newer generation’s gotta go through some hardships so you gotta die.’ Imagine hearing that. The end goal, especially in a world where the rule of cool supersedes the laws of physics themselves, should be a deathless world altogether. This does not mean, however, that such a world cannot move forward. Moving forward does not mean leaving everything behind. We take things into the future with us: memories, objects, and yes, other people. Moving forward is changing what should be changed, not change for its own sake. I would have no issue with Simon stepping back and letting the younger generation handling things. My problem is specifically the acceptance of death.
