Carp are so underrated glad to see a Carp Tenkara video, thank you!. What was your line setup?

For sure! They are such challenging and rewarding quarry. I was using ~15 feet of 8 pound fluorocarbon followed by a couple feet of brightly colored sighter to a few feet of 3X fluoro tippet.

I'm actually quite amazed when I see your views and subscriber stats. It should be ten times more, considering the quality of your work. I find that as a conventional fly fisher I still learn a few things from Tenkara. At the same time, it is so pleasing to watch you do your thing. Carry on Flicky!

Hah, thanks Ernst! I’ll keep at it and hopefully get there someday :) I had no idea you were a conventional fly fisher, that’s so cool! I actually want to start filming some videos with conventional setups here and there and having this channel be a place for fly fishermen of all types. Kind of worried the regular fly fisher folk won’t love my tenkara content, but it’s good to hear that you do. Gives me hope!

Another great video, keep up the excellent work. I received my Rodzilla already but have not had the opportunity to test it out yet. This video assured me that I got the right rod for the job of targeting the biggest fish whatever my area, living on the Texas coast or chasing big carp in Kansas. I tend to want to push the boundaries and upon just hearing the name "Rodzilla" I was sold!

That is a beast of a rod! Great spot to sight fish some big fish! Awesome video! You have great voice audio and also capture nice ambient audio as well. What do you use for your audio set up?
@FlickyFlies
@FlickyFlies 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I know, such a nice spot for some carp fishing. Glad you liked the video. I use a Rode VideoMicro on my big camera for B-roll, and then have a small mic (Edutige ETM-001) connected to my chest-mounted GoPro. I sync up the GoPro audio and big camera third person video. It essentially acts as a lav mic with the ability to use some GoPro footage if needed.

@@FlickyFlies Got it. You get great audio out of your go pro. I found I can't do that because I use the camera underwater a lot and the gopro mic doesn't work as well when it gets wet. I use an external voice recorder and I sync the audio in post with the big camera. I just ordered the Rode VideoMicro for my big camera as I'm not happy with the mic I have for it currently. Thanks so much and keep up the great content! 👍👍

I have a rod this size and I want to use it on Sonoran Suckers in the Lower Salt River. A lot of traditional western fly fishermen target them out here. I'd like to turn a few of their heads with my 18' rod.
@FlickyFlies

That’s never been on my radar, but the salt river is. That sounds really interesting. Are they targeting the. with carp flies more or less? You should definitely give it a go. How big do they get?

Another great video. I´ve got a Rodzilla too, but haven´t had a chance to use it yet. Quick question-what kind of line/ leader set up were you using?
@FlickyFlies
@FlickyFlies 2 жыл бұрын
I'm really enjoying the fact that I've met a few people with this niche rod. What target fish did you buy it for? Today I was using an 8 pound test fluorocarbon main line (stealthiest option for lobbing instead of casting heavier flies) that had a couple feet of brightly colored sighter attached and then 3-4 feet of 3X fluorocarbon tippet. However, I managed to snap it in the middle of the line on a snag and ended up using a 12 foot line I had with way too much tippet on it. I made up a line of #3 level line straight to tippet and was using that on my T-Hunter a few days ago and I really was enjoying the simplicity, the visibility from rod tip straight down to tippet, and potential greater durability compared to thinner fluorocarbon main line. So I'll likely switch to various lengths of #3 level line for nymphing / streamers etc in the future.

@@FlickyFlies Hi, I bought it for big trout in very fast current. I fished a river last year where I had some big fish beaten but did not have the leverage to bring them to the net in the very fast water. I couldn´t follow them or lead them into softer water as I was balanced very precariously on rocks. Hopefully Rodzilla does the trick this year...

I used your code to pick up a Rodzilla. I live within 200 yards of the San Juan river and you convinced me to see if I can hook into some big carp. I may have missed it. What fly were you using?
@FlickyFlies

Awesome! It's about the most fun fishing I've ever had. Check back in with me and let me know how you do! I'm using the McTage's Chubby Chaser. A fly that originates with a carp fly fisherman out of, I believe, Denver.

They don't put those lightning stickers on rods for fun. Stay out of the water and well away if waving a graphite rod during a storm.
