Several bad play calls that really hurt. The coaching is partially to blame, but he is a better coach than what we got from him today. We need to remember that Tennessee is still technically rebuilding so I think that’s pretty good! We also need to remember that Coach Heupel is a young coach & is going to take some bumps, but he’s going in the right direction! His recruiting already has Tennessee set up to be a contender for years to come as long as nothing out of the ordinary or terrible happens!

As a Tennessee fan I knew we were going to lose this game because prior to this, we didn’t know how to play offense on the road. This game though I saw a team that proved they were capable of it and it was great; however, bad calls by the refs honestly and that’s not why we lost we lost because of horrible play calling even if the officiating was fair I still think we lose and even if we win it would have been a field goal. The absolute worst shift in defense during the 2nd half, that coordinator should be ashamed and offensively we must have convinced ourselves we were fine because that was just complacency. I’m fine with risky 4th downs because I’m a gambling man especially with our run game and Alabamas defensive front being sub par. But Tennessee fans that think we lost because of the refs, no we lost because of the horrible play calling in the second half even if the refs kept calling 89% of the penalties against Tennessee if we had kept playing like we did in the first half and made proper adjustments in the second Alabama would have been smoked. As a Bama fan, many opposing coaches underestimate the defense and offense. This Bama team is young and each week they get better and better. Tennessee was shocked how Bama took over the game in the second half except Bama coaches and players. This is the fourth game this season where Bama for whatever reason hits the accelerator in the second half of the game. For the first time this season during last weeks game against Arkansas the team hit the accelerator during the first half of the game and then took their foot off the gas in the second half allowing Arkansas to get back in the game. That was an OC error that changed the offensive scheme that was working which still got me scratching my head. The most scary part of this Bama team is they have yet to play all four quarters this season and still have not peaked. What that means is if this young team can eventually put all four quarters together they will be hard to beat at the end of the season. The last thing I like about this team is they take one game at a time and don't look ahead.

It’s absolutely hilarious to hear that one reporter talk about Alabama getting to “play Mortal Kombat” when Tennessee is the only team from the game who got away with a Mortal Kombat finishing move on that punch to the back of the head (and no, he wasn’t going for the ball, he hits the guy with his elbow and then his hand moves AWAY from the ball to hit the RB in the face, quit lying to yourselves). And Tennessee was the only team to get away with targeting, and Tennessee was the only team to get away with a late hit on a QB, and Tennessee got away with a DPI that gave them an INT (which Alabama notoriously DIDN’T get away with last year when the refs threw the flag after the play had already ended and Bama had returned the INT 50+ yards), and Tennessee got away with 10+ holds. I’m not saying that Alabama didn’t get away with things either, I’m just saying that everyone arguing that the refs were one-sided is specifically and intentionally trying to force-feed that narrative to themselves, because the actual game doesn’t support it. The majority of Tennessee’s penalties were pre-snap (and non-contact, making the reporter’s argument even sillier) penalties caused by the crowd noise and energy, and NONE of the penalties that WERE called post-snap (which is only 3 of them) were incorrect. Ironically, Tennessee still had fewer pre-snap penalties than Alabama had last year. AND there were several incorrect post-snap penalties against Alabama in last year’s game, along with an impressively ridiculous number of missed obvious calls against Tennessee. But not a single Tennessee fan would admit problems with officiating for last year’s game. For reference, Alabama had more post-snap penalties alone last year than Tennessee had TOTAL penalties this year (when y’all are whining about officiating). Tennessee fans simply don’t think the game is fair unless their Vols are blatantly cheating (like last year) and it’s hilarious.
