love the passion you all have for my hometown. I was born and raised in the second oldest house in Jonesborough. right behind the train tracks. It’s a two story blue house (they painted it white recently) and you can see it clearly when driving into jonesborough. I feel so proud to be from this historic little town! As a kid my parents would walk me from our house down to the park nearby, and then onto main street where we would stop and see the lollipop shop, along with the glass shop and fabric shop for mom! my first birthday party was at the lollipop shop! To this day, every year for my birthday I take my family to eat at main street diner, and afterwards we go to the lollipop shop where my mom STILL buys me my favorite candy I can find at 20 years old! I love my little historic town

Interesting up to date tour. I didn't know Bob when I lived there but he seems nice. John Rose was one of the original entertainers during Jonesborough days and he had a good voice I remember. Unless they've torn it down the original one room jail I thought was worth seeing. While I lived there the town briefly changed its spelling to Jonesboro. Lyle Haw's owned a grocery store next to the Dairy Queen on the main road and operated for many years before Johnson City expanded pretty much to the city limits. Haw's Market sold to the Meyers family in 1983 and shut down permanently that same year. No alchohol was ever sold in the town during my time and a distillery wasn't even a dream. Lyle was also the mayor for a time then his wife ran against him and won. I rented a 2 bedroom apt over the grocery store for 85 dollars a month and ran the meat dept. while I was still in college. I loved it there.
@FridaysForever3 жыл бұрын
How neat, Ray! Thanks for sharing such interesting info and your personal experience, too. Funny Lyle’s wife beat him out as mayor. And your apartment sure was at a good price! 😀 We enjoyed reading this!

@@FridaysForever sorry it took me so long to respond. I really enjoyed your video, many memories for me. It looks like it has changed alot, not bigger but interest has brought in new people that want to preserve history and I'm glad for that. I like what your doing and you have a good partner.
@2ndestate3 жыл бұрын
Let me know if I can assist you in any way, I have lived in Bristol, Jonesborough, Dunlap, Nashville, Crossville, Bluff City and Grey. I'm not from here I'm one of those hated yankee's that moved to Florida in the 60's and bounced around the country the rest of my life. No home but many fond memories.
@2ndestate3 жыл бұрын
I am guessing you and your wife are finding common ground and a common interest. I hope to do the same some day, Funny the biggest disappointment was trip to Saint Augustine Florida. Beautiful place, not all built up and they have preserved much of the original downtown but what I went there for was drinking from the fountain of youth, and they had a hand painted sign on plywood and handed out Dixie cups of water to drink. The trip to silver springs to do glass bottom boat rides over one of Johnny Wismellers sets was sort of the same, algee hindered the view and I know they dumped money into silver springs since then so I'm sure it's worth a visit now. I'm sure we could swap stories lol
