I love love love Tennessee. I'm a Chicago gal born and raised. My grandfather lived in Chattanooga so my family and I would visit twice a year and drop by Gatlinburg. We went to memphis, Graceland and Knoxville, you name it. Now my husband and I didnt have too much money for our honeymoon. He mentioned how he had never been to Tennessee so we went to Chattanooga for our honeymoon and drove down, we hit Nashville GRIDLOCK. Like I've never seen that bad. We moved like an inch every couple of minutes. It took over an hour to get out. But I would still love to retire one day down in Tennessee, beautiful weather and the loveliest people you could ever meet!

1. Don't skip Chattanooga. It's very underrated 2. Be VERY careful in Memphis, Memphis is not a city that you can just walk around, it's very easy to end up in a dangerous area 3. Don't panic if you see someone carrying firearms, that is perfectly legal in Tennessee
@micheledeetlefs6041

Please let a 50-year-old Tennessean who is also the daughter, goddaughter, niece and cousin to police officers second this. Memphis is frequently ranked as the most dangerous city in America. A lot of Southerners call it the Detroit of the South. It's impoverished and crime is extraordinarily high. Even if you were there in daylight and in a crowd, please keep an eye out. Nobody should have to suffer a crime when they're just here to enjoy a city. And tragically downtown Nashville has become very similar to Memphis as far as crime goes, not because it is impoverished, but because we have a lot of foreign tourists who simply can't stick around press charges. Again, no matter what time of the day you are there, please keep a good eye out. No matter how much I,as a native Nashvillian, complain about tourists, I don't want anyone to get hurt just trying to enjoy the city.

Let's be honest. Don't be an easy target in Memphis. I lived here my whole life and never had an issue. But I'm a memphian. If you ain't from here please don't think you can do whatever you want cause you can't. Someone will take all your excitement and maybe more if you do.

Was raised in Tennessee, and yes, driving across the state is a long commitment! Although I-40 is the fastest route from end to end, if you have the time, take Highway 64 across the southern part of the state. It is one of the prettiest drives through old farm country that takes you through every quaint county seat along the southern border. You won't make any time, but you will be so captivated by the beautiful scenery you won't care about time. 🙂

You got one...Don't dis Dolly and Don't dis Peyton Manning and Don't dis Pat Summit especially here in the east. So warm and loving here and wave at those you drive past. Pigeon Forge area is crowded all the time now. It used to be a ghost town Jan-Feb, but that's busy now too. Very touristy, but good for Sevier Co. Don't forget the Tri-Cities past Pigeon Forge. Bristol is the birthplace of country music and checkout State Street in Bristol and you can walk the TN/VA state line.

I so enjoyed this video about my beloved Tennessee. As a middle Tennessean, I am painfully aware that Nashville has become the hub of the universe. It was once a sweet, fun, small city to maneuver around and in. Not so much, anymore. So sad to watch Nashville become the next Atlanta. Breaks our hearts that its character and flavor is fading due to growth and over population. You are absolutely right...the infrastructure cannot keep up with the rate of folks moving here. Sure wish there were a way to slow it down; Nashville is being loved to death.

I'm a lifelong Nashvillian and I think I'd actually take Atlanta over Nashville currently. At least in Atlanta you don't witness drunk British tourists pissing in planters because they don't realize that bathrooms are free in the US, or run the risk of having your car damaged when a drunken member from a bridal shower falls off one of the party buses and lands on your roof. Both of which are actually things you see in Nashville nowadays.

If you're someone that wants the mountains but doesn't like the crowds, consider Townsend, Tennessee. It's big enough to have the sort of things tourists seem like, such as cabins, walking and biking trails, and nice little restaurants. But it's nowhere near as big and as flashy. Just know it's more suited to the couple than to the family, since there's far more things for a family to do in the Gatlinburg area then there are in Townsend.

If you ever come to those tracts on a third Saturday between April and October (between 1 and 5 pm), you should definitely visit Whippoorwill Academy and Village. The place is interesting and the people running it are amazing. And talk about accent 😗, I love it. Even if I live in Denmark, Europe, I have visited the place numerous times in the last 20 years including three times this year: mid April, early August and late September. What I can’t relate to were your first comments re don’t confuse Vol fans with-construction workers? Because they might band together and sing Rocky Top? A few more tips as someone currently living in TN. 1) We get bad weather in the winter sometimes but in most parts of the state we can’t clean the snow or ice off the roads. Don’t get caught driving in it if you are uncomfortable AT ALL driving on an unplowed road. 2) Spring and fall are not nice, gradual warming or cooling seasons. The jet stream constantly plays double Dutch over the state, meaning the temperatures whipsaw back and forth VERY erratically, so check the forecast right before leaving as you may need to prepare for multiple seasons for a one-week period. 😂 3) Summers. Hot and humid. But if you think that’s bad in Nashville just wait till you hit Memphis. Memphis is literally not even in the same climate/plant hardiness zone as the rest of the state. 4) Memphis: Yes, we all know Memphis has crime, poverty, awful drivers, etc. But only Memphians are allowed to dump on Memphis. Don’t even do it if you’re from Nashville. 5) If you’re seeing Tennesseans drive like NASCAR drivers, though, odds are they are indeed from Memphis. 😂 And remember that unlike the other cities in the state, Memphians will not hesitate to pass you on the right. If you live in the area it’s normal and you don’t even blink but if you’re not expecting it you could have a wreck. (I have to really watch this habit when not in the Memphis area.) 6) There IS something way worse than Tennessee drivers while in Tennessee. And that is TEXAS DRIVERS. 😂 If I have someone riding my butt in a giant pickup or SUV in Tennessee while I’m already well over the speed limit, odds are it’s a Texan. (If it’s a total beater of a vehicle or it’s a Mustang, Impala, or Charger, it’s probably a Memphian. 😂) 7) THE RENDEZVOUS IS A TOURIST TRAP. Any local will tell you that. Better to go to Central Barbecue or the Germantown or Collierville Commissary.

So true. On the upper and lower limit as well in that left lane 😞
@micheledeetlefs6041

@@woltersworld Tennessee actually has a state law that requires slower traffic to stay in the left lane. So that's why you always have people on the left lane going 55 mph and a 65 mi zone. Add to that the fact that roads, highways, and interstates in Tennessee can change speeds without any warning, leading a lot of people to stay in the left lane because they have no earthly idea what the speed limit is, and that probably explains why you see people in the left lane going at a snail's pace. Except for trucks. Especially dump trucks. They might only be able to physically get to 45 mph, and they might be on a section of road that specifically says trucks have to stay in the left hand lane, but I guarantee you they're going to be in the right lines. Especially if crap's coming off their load.

Nashville has gotten so many transplants from Washington State and New York lately that we've actually found people living in the city who know how to drive on snow. Tragically none of them have been hired by the DMV to run the snow plows or the trucks that salt the roads as yet. So we still see the snow plows overturning every time there's 2 inches of snow!

You should have mentioned about the tail of the dragon aka US129. It’s a really freakin fun road. Buts it’s also extremely dangerous and you need to be careful when driving on it. It’s a popular road to tear up so I figure I’d mention !

100% correct on Nashville traffic!! Nashville and Memphis are totally different, but equally great. As far as Memphis, be really careful where you go, because it is one of the most dangerous, violent cities in the US. Use common sense as you normally would

I'd also like to see you do an Asheville video. I understand that it's been viewed lately as a nice alternative to overcrowded Nashville. But I also understand that some of the locals are starting to rebel against the tourists. I'm curious as to which is more accurate assessment.

@@micheledeetlefs6041 my parents moved here in the early 90’s I moved away but came back about 10 years ago, in my experience most people here who have an issue with visitors, have moved here after me the second time. People I knew when I was a kid like to show the town off. Nashville is an awesome town as well.

Overall this is well done, but you really missed on ignoring that “last hour” of the drive across the state from Memphis. Upper East TN (past Pigeon Forge) has NASCAR (it’s Bristol baby), the Birthplace of Country Music museum (Bristol), and the oldest town in TN (Jonesborough). It was sheer neglect to mention that last hour’s drive to reach the TN/VA border. Hope you can rectify that on a future video. Otherwise, I think you covered the state very well.

@@woltersworld Weve also got the Rhythm and Roots Music Festival every September on State Street in downtown Bristol that brings in about 50k with country, folk, bluegrass and a little of all types of music. Most people seem to think the state ends at Knoxville. (Nothing against the vid or the info, its just a sore spot around here haha)

I've lived here for over 40 yrs. There's so many small towns and parks that he never mentions that are not crowded. The Appalachian Trail is in the Northeast Tennessee east of Knoxville and beautiful farmland in Northwest Tennessee plus a lake that was formed when the Mississippi River flowed backwards during an earthquake. In my little corner of Northeast Tennessee I have never been able to make it to all the festivals. It's a great state with so much to do. Come and visit and if you decide to stay there is no state income tax.
