I stumbled on your channel. Nice project, I'll be following your progress. I built one rough muzzleloader kit. It was a .54 cal percussion rifle I got from Track of the Wolf. I just might build another. One thing you might consider if you haven't done so already, is to polish your breech plug face with 600/1,000 grit sand paper. If you get it bright and shiny it will help you inspect your bore for cleaning or to ensure it is clear. It will reflect light when you shine a light down the bore. Good luck with your flintlock! 💥💨🐿👍

that sounds like a good idea. i have put off building it to fish some but i am gonna work on it in the coming weeks because i wanna have it readt for hunting season this fall and i am gonna build a self bow as well.

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors We have a similar life style. It is trout season here in N.C. I'm prioritizing fishing now too. I bought my first flintlock this year. I have taken many deer with a muzzleloader, but never with a flintlock. That's one of my goals this season.

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors Filming a primitive bow hunt will be challenging for sure. Good luck, I look forward to the video! 🏹🦌

Thanks bro. If it's too much work just say hell no. Could you give us some close ups of what you are doing and tell us the reason for these steps. Maybe at the end of the video.

I will try. This is a learning process for me as well but ive done my research and have most of it figured in my head. Really struggling with the idea of taking the lock apart to fit it but im sure once i start it wont bother me lol

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors I have done some reblueing and stock refinishing on shotguns and bolt action rifles, miner bolt repair. I'm most sure once you get it done you look back and really have one fine rifle that you can be proud of.

Are all original Musket rifles contain breech plug

I do think so at least all i am familiar with

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors Are there musket guns that do not have a breech plug, i.e. cast iron?

@@احمدتحسين-ص2ه it is possible that some are solid like a cannon with only a touch hole to fire. Im not absolutely sure. The ones still made today have breech plugs so you can remove to remove bullets that get lodged but someone with more knowledge than me on older rifles can answer this better than me.

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors Thanks in advance. One last question. Why doesn't the breech plug release from the pressure of gunpowder combustion? Are there any chances of breech plug volatilization?

@@احمدتحسين-ص2ه it is screwed in so it would have to make many turns to come out. Most are fit where you cant see the separation

I would have thought the breech plug would have been a tighter fit but I have zero experience building so that was just my impression, not a critique.
@SpiritoftheOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
In the filming i had already took it in and out several times getting the fit and alignment perfect but it got tight right at the end

@@SpiritoftheOutdoors makes sense. I figured they are pretty much in for good once they are fitted.
