@@johnlewis9907 Dude, we're the most populous state. One out of every 8 people live here. The census was done during a shutdown and many believe that the count was off. In fact, there's a recount underway to rectify that. California is the economic engine of the US by far. The rest are welfare states in comparison - look it up. Do we have big problems. Oh hell yes. But do we have the ability to solve them as well as the resources? Again, yes. Agriculture, aerospace, the entertainment industry, the tourism - all massive industries. Our ports are the busiest in the western hemisphere. I didn't even mention the biggest reason - the weather. Which is why those other industries do so well here. We have problems but they are being met with solutions. I'm bullish on CAL. You're ignoring the things that go on in other states, like hurricanes, tornadoes and bugs, bugs, bugs. @@soul2soul399 Well, I am born and raised San Diego and I have lived a few other places for the Navy. It’s about perspective, I live in Montana now for the last 4 years. Missoula has a interesting vibe, people are laid back just like CA, people are 10X friendlier, the Mexican food BLOWS, but the steak and burgers are better than anything I have had in CA. I’m talking Cowboy, Island Prime, and Ruth Chris. I can go to a hole in the wall steak joint and it will be better than any of those, easily. Winters can be tough, but nothing beats the spring, summer and fall in Montana. My mortgage is $1000 in Montana and I make almost what I was making in CA with a $2500 mortgage. My water is 30 bucks a month and I have a killer lawn, my electricity is 60 or so bucks a month, even in winter. But take MT out if you don’t like winters. Go to North Carolina, Gulf coast of Florida… etc. Too much rat race in CA. I like to visit, but now I can afford killer vacations to CA and other places.
@soul2soul3992 жыл бұрын
Jesse H, Montana is a place I’ve considered. It’s so beautiful there and the lower cost of living sounds great! But, I’m a California kid too, so I don’t think I could hack the winters at my age now. I was born and raised in San Jose. My family came to San Francisco in the 1800’s. My great uncles helped build the Golden Gate Bridge. For me, San Jose was a great place to grow up 50 years ago, but I agree that it’s a rat race now. During covid I moved up to my great-grandparents Russian River house in Sonoma County. It’s much slower here. Very friendly with community oriented people. Beautiful country living among vineyards, 5 minutes from redwood forests, and 20 minutes to the spectacular pacific coast. The only downside is the fire threats… but I’m not sure I’d exchange that for shoveling snow half the year. Food… forgettaboutit! I’m sure the taco trucks are 5-star in San Diego but in wine country… we are famous for our chefs and farm to table cuisine. I’m still discovering all the culinary delights this place has to offer. I’ve had fried chicken here that’s put the South to shame! I’ve had wood fired pizza that would make a New Yorker drool. I haven’t gone out for a good steak here, but I’m sure I could find one… or just make my way into the city for the House of Prime Rib. 🤤 I’ve never been to North Carolina but I have a friend from San Jose who moved out there 5 years ago and just moved back to San Jose a couple months ago. (Kicking herself for selling her SJ house 5 years ago!) I know she liked N. Carolina when she first moved out there. I guess you can take the girl out of California, but you can’t take California out of the girl.

@@soul2soul399 so to be honest, I do feel that there are places in NorCal that are still worth living in. And I feel bad for the smaller, nice areas of CA that are along for the ride.

Another key difference between LA and Gatlinburg (and almost all of Tennessee) is that you don't have government sanctioned tent cities filled with homeless all over the sidewalks in front of your small business and in residential neighborhoods in front of the very expensive houses that tax paying citizens like Rob pay for with their sweat equity. In CA, someone living on the street can simply decide to erect a structure anywhere they want to, and the police are ordered to leave them alone. However, if a taxpaying citizen like Rob wants to put a shed in his back yard, he needs to pay massive fees and go through a multi -year permitting process.

Being with-in a mile of the ocean, the temperature only varies 15 degrees from Summer to Winter. Summer 60-75F Winter 45-60F. If I go east 20 miles, it's 100 degrees in Summer & Snow in the Winter. Typically we only have about 5 rain storms in the Winter that last about 6 hours. I moved from near LAX Airport about 12 years ago. I try to never go into Los Angeles because of the nightmare traffic. You can become a South Dakota resident with no state income tax by mail, or one visit. You'd have a much easier time making friends in these cities than in Gatlinburg and you could also have an easy time finding people willing to travel to Galingburg and work for you. Prepare to be tailgated every day. 4. Fast food workers being sassy/rude is very common around here. 5. The TN natives are more closed off than Californians and tend to not ask you many questions at all, but will talk about themselves for hours. Trust me. These are my only cons! We routinely turn down offers in the 50k a month range from the west coast (and higher for places like Boise, Montana, Alaska etc.) to stay here with friends and family. Everyone’s different. We wouldn’t go somewhere where we don’t know anyone just to make more money and not be able to see our family and friends. Matter of fact, we’re trying to make LESS money if it means we can cut back on how often we have to go into our offices.

Hi from Metro Detroit. My sister moved from Metro Detroit to the LA area. She worked in HR for a hospital. Employees would just not come to work for three days, never called in. They would finally show up and couldn't understand why they were fired. Total Flakes. Do yourself a favor and try to live close to your jobs to avoid time on the congessed and terrible expressways. They left LA and moved to the mountains of TN and never looked back. May God Bless you in your move and your future.

You can find great cocktails in Knoxville or any other decent place, but the strip in Gatlinburg is just one big boomer cracker barrel lobby. Nothing of high quality there except NOC and that one jerky store

You're always welcome in Tennessee Bro! What seems to be getting to be a thing here and in North Carolina are Family Compounds! That really got a boost during the height of the Pandemic! Are you familiar with the Widener Brothers? They helped finance the Adam Rifkin film that was shot in the Knoxville area a few years ago called 'The Last Movie Star' starring the late Burt Reynolds and Ariel Winter. This place is very welcoming for Movie Production companies! I've heard people in LA will sometimes start Chain saws to disrupt live capture sounds on set. Admittedly street closures and all those Semi trucks would get to be a hassle! But here it's still a phenomena! So welcome back when you're in town! And good luck with the Tiny Homes! Awesome!

‘Friendlier’ except for their laws and attitudes about anyone who isn’t white.
@mightyoaks802 жыл бұрын
That's a stereotype. Not accurate in 2021. I'm black and all people are really kind and friendly in Tennessee regardless of color. Nashville the capital is a blue liberal town. People that think like you are lead around by fake news and racist stereotypes. Liberals that think it's ok to hate white people and not be called racist themselves. A stereotype about California is that you hate anyone that isn't of color. And extremely ant-white.
@Swimdeep2 жыл бұрын
@@mightyoaks80 Nashville is not the rest of TN. I lived for several years in TX, MS, NC, AL with stays of several weeks in other Southern States; I am very familiar with the South and I’m white. You make a lot of assumptions that are all wrong. I’m glad your experience is a pleasant one but to deny that racism and right wing nut jobs don’t run the show in most parts of the South is to be in denial. The cultural divide in this country is as great as during the Civil War.

I live in CA. If the fires increase, there's a point where it's not gonna be worth it. You basically pay a premium to enjoy the weather and outdoors here. If the air is filled ash and you can't enjoy it, more than say a few months out of the year, man that's a tough pill to swallow. Otherwise I love it here.

9:04 "...but relative to real estate in CA that's a freaking deal." Hahaha the worst possible way to look at investing in a property. When you go to sell the TN property it's unlikely you'll have a lot of buyers from CA, Tokyo, Paris or some other crazy expensive place who will see your asking price as a "freaking deal". Locals will see it has "wow, that's a lot of money". See a lot of people moving out of CA making the same choices..."cool we made a ton of cash so money is no object". It is.
