David Allan Coe was the first to record the song in 1981. Two years later, “Tennessee Whiskey” was a hit for the late, great George Jones. Over two decades later, Stapleton put his stamp on the classic by infusing elements of soul and R&B into his country roots. If you guys like this then you would like "Human" by rag and Bone Man, and "Way Down We Go" by Kaleo.

@michaeldjguardianmeans62813 жыл бұрын
Coe and Co. took the Etta James “I’d Rather Go Blind” song and basically wrote new lyrics to it and tweeted a few other elements, but prior to Chris doing Tennessee Whiskey, I do t think the prior versions had the same kind of cry, wail and raw emotion to the way Etta James sung it. My guess is Chris knew the roots of it all.

He's also telling her that her love stopped him from reaching for the bottle.
