Lost my daughter to pre-eclampsia at 29 weeks in 2011. Broke my heart, had no idea. Then lost twins at 14 weeks. But 3 weeks after having dnc with twins i conceived my now 11 yo precious daughter. That 3rd time they knew what to look for and made me stay in hospital until i delivered. Thank goodness technology continues to advance daily

That was almost me. I had no signs of preeclampsia no high blood pressure no protein detected in my urine, nothing. Until i dropped at about 38 weeks throwing up, bad chest pain, they thought it was a stomach ache but i knew something was really wrong which is why I always encourage moms and pregnant women to listen to their body. Thankfully I had a miracle happen that day, idk what divine intervention swooped in to save me but they were only concerned I might not make it because my body was only attacking me and not the baby at that point. So they got him out and he was safe, and they prepared my family that If I didn’t start recovering soon I wouldn’t come back from this. 🫂 I’m so sorry for your loss it’s so sudden and unfair.

He’s 10 months now and it’s crazy how much of a difference he’s developing vs my daughter! He was born at 39 weeks. You wouldn’t think those extra weeks do much but a lot happens! Similar thing happened to me during my first pregnancy. I started swelling a lot and was gaining so much weight. In 2 weeks I gained 9lbs and they just said it was normal. Then 2 weeks later I had gained another 9lbs, and protein started showing up in my urine. They then told me I needed to go to the hospital for observation and monitoring. I ended up being on hospital bed rest for 10 days before they induced me at 35 weeks due to my kidneys becoming endangered. I wish someone would have realized earlier that the swelling and weight I had gained in one month were not normal. Glad a test now exists to help others.

I think you’re right. It sounds like she already had preeclampsia, so what exactly is the test revealing? She already had it. I’m pregnant and currently there isn’t a way to know. I’m apparently high risk, but I take my blood pressure daily and the average is around 110/60. The only other thing my OB does to monitor is check for protein in my urine, which I don’t have at this point. I don’t think there’s a way to predict if that will change because I don’t have preeclampsia.

Mine started as hypertension that turned into severe preeclampsia right after delivery. Sent home with meds after mag drip and went back in 2 days later with a BP of 187/111. My only symptoms? A very faint headache, feeling out of it, and a tingle that travelled from my lower spine up to my neck. It actially made me curl up everytime I got that weird tingle. I wasn't "physically" at risk because I am small and of normal weight. So every nurse that took care of me swore I was too tiny to have such high BP. I am grateful my OB team were very caring and were actually monitoring me good. But that experience is still very traumatic to me up to this day

My mom developed pre-eclampsia with me. They performed a c-section a month before I was due, because her blood pressure would not lower. My mom recovered within a few days. My lungs were not ready and collapsed. I spent two weeks in the NICU and needed a blood transfusion due to blood loss during the chest tube surgeries. However, I recovered and have been healthy ever since. I'm thankful this new technology exists to diagnose this in moms to save their lives and their baby's lives. Back then, my parents were given the choice to try to wait a little longer to give me time to be better prepared to survive, but ran the risk of killing my mom; or delivering me early with a moderate chance I would not make it, but her life would be saved. My parents made a rough choice to have me delivered early and risk losing me, even though they already loved and wanted me. They chose the right thing for both of us. If they had waited and she died, I would have died, too.

She already had a clinical diagnosis of preeclampsia. You can’t really depend on a test to diagnose something that is staring you right in the face. I have seen clinicians use a diagnostic test when their own eyes diagnosed a condition with 100% certainty and when that test was erroneously negative, the patient was mismanaged. Sometimes brains are better than technology.

For so many women that died after pregnancy or went through a life threatening situation and survived. I would regularly hear preeclampsia being the cause. This 'test' is absurd. Mothers need to know symptoms to report and there needs to be enough qualified providers to listen and act. I can see your point and I agree that practitioners need to listen BUT the test could be tremendously helpful in an at-risk mom getting the care she needs quickly. I was on magnesium for 48 hours. It was a very traumatic experience for me. Eight years later I got pregnant again. My doctor put me on low-dose aspirin starting at 20 weeks and I also had Non stress test done every 2/3 days, a urine test and full blood work done every few weeks. I was able to deliver a healthy baby with no complications. I was also able to finally experience a natural unmedicated birth which was my birth plan in my second pregnancy. So the doc decided to go ahead and break my water for delivery. (They put me on a magnesium drip to prevent seizures, which is what happens if pre-eclampsia progresses to eclampsia.) The cure for pre-eclampsia is to deliver the baby. It's that simple. I hadn't heard of it being heart related before. I understood that pre-eclampsia was the kidneys were no longer able to filter for 2 people. So if you remove the baby everything goes back to normal. Of course it needs to be caught early. I had none of the classic signs or reasons for anticipating pre-eclampsia in my pregnancy. Since it is kidney related I have assumed it was likely due to the large amount of sugar I was having daily during my pregnancy. That puts a lot of strain on the kidneys.

That's what I was intially told. Preeclampsia would go away after giving birth. But mine showed up right after. It's called postpartum preeclampsia. This how how many women postpartum lost their lives kn my country. They just thought it was sleep deprivation or exhaustion. By the time they were taken to the hospital, it's too late. I'm pregnant with my third now. Doc started me on baby aspirin at 12 weeks. After giving birth, I will definitely keep checking my BP to rule out postpartum preeclampsia 😨

Preclampaia is a multi organ impacting disease. The origin is actually problems of the placenta and the blood vessels leading to it not being efficient enough to pump blood to the baby.

There One thing that can be done for sure is to help prevent risk. The doctor can start you on aspirin starting at 12weeks pregnant. An explanation in my words:Preeclampsia is thought to involve the placenta and the blood vessels in the placenta..the narrowing of arteries and blood flow disruption can happen and suddenly out of nowhere a mom can develop preclampsia,this usually occurs in the second trimester w no warning other than dangerous high blood pressure headaches that wont leave and swelling. Doctor's now have new guidelines on who is at risk. The trouble happens during implantation after fertilization.. it is a blood vessel issue involving the placenta..but dosnt manifest until second trimester. I was rated in moderate risk category..so therefore my doctor has me on aspirin my risks were: #1 Im advanced maternal age #2 its been more than 10 years since last pregnancy #3 my BMI is high #4 and i have had episodes of high blood pressure in the past. There is a risk factor chart and the doctor can access your risk if you are high or moderate. The asprin works by allowing greater blood flow in the placental arteries ..this is important bc at 12 weeks there is a massive growth of the placenta and baby. And this allows better flow and function of the placental arteries.. understand:.the trouble occurs when narrowing arteries in the placenta cause restrictions in blood flow and it actually starts to affect the mother.. how? When the placenta has blood flow issues the body produces an inflammation next, it is sent throughout the mothers system.this inflammation in the blody causes distress and inturn high blood pressure, swelling, headache..plus the baby is not receiving proper care from that distressed placenta and this causes an emergency for both mother & baby.asprin is a good measure to help w mothers at risk.

Aspirin doesn’t fully prevent preeclampsia, at least in my experience. I got started on aspirin early in my twin pregnancy and still ended up with preeclampsia. Doctors and nurses kept brushing me off because I didn’t have typical preeclampsia symptoms, but then when I did have symptoms (like swelling that wouldn’t go down, morning sickness returning in my third trimester, etc), they brushed it off saying it was due to being pregnant with multiples.
@RaspberrySwaggАй бұрын
and then when one of my twins became IUGR, they said they couldn’t determine why. I think it was due to my late diagnosed preeclampsia.

@@RaspberrySwagg I've had swelling since my late second trimester. It only went down when I drank gallons of electrolyte water, cut out cooked foods, drank about 2 oz of herbal tea blends every other day, and ate one salad a day within 7 days but then I got super hungry and couldn't keep up with it. The swelling came back and hasn't gone away. I still get nausea and regurgitate what I eat but I don't know if it depends on me eating too fast and drinking water, or me drinking water too soon after eating or what order, but it'll all come back up. I spoke to a doctor about my symptoms and he brushed it off. I told him I checked my blood pressure after a 5 minute walk and it read prehypertension. My face looks puffy in the morning but I thought it was because I'm overweight. I've gained 60+ lbs in 6 months and have been maintaining that 60+ for the last 2-3 months now. I'm 39 weeks pregnant now. I'll be going to the hospital if I don't go into spontaneous labor later this week. I was afraid to get induced because many women said they regretted it and suffered from it. I couldn't even find holistic treatment for the swelling that made sense. Most of the blood cleansing herbs or seemingly promising methods cannot be used while pregnant. I'm just waiting it out tbh but watching videos like this and reading these comments are scary

@@nicoleraheem1195can you try going to the hospital? Maybe they can admit you just to monitor you and baby until you’re ready to deliver. Are you on a blood pressure medication regimen at home? I spent the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy in the hospital when my medication regimen was no longer working at home. Then had an emergency c-section when medication regimen I had in the hospital stopped working and I had a headache (indicating risk of a seizure or stroke). I would recommend going to a hospital about your swelling. If they don’t admit you to monitor you and your baby, tell them you will hold them responsible if your condition worsens as this is life threatening for you and your baby. Hoping you and your baby stay healthy and have a safe delivery when ready 🩷

I think this is headed the right direction, but for women that are currently pregnant, how would they prevent it before it happens? This seems like the test is done after delivery, which sure it's absolutely important. However, we need something to diagnose while pregnant. I had pre-eclampsia with my first, which was diagnosed on time. My midwives were amazing and they asked the the correct questions. I started to have swelling at 27 weeks, then elevated BP, then protein in urine. Protein and high BP happened within a week. I delivered at 38 +5. Had my second baby at 37 +3 because of protein in urine.

I thought that too. Hoping they will be able to implement this much earlier in pregnancy as a standard part of bloodwork bc by the time you have symptoms like these, its a given you have it.....

i feel like the testing confirms on paper the risk of severe organ failure and death by preeclampsia so that they have a medical reason to deliver the child early. i dunno
@Peridot0000Ай бұрын
It sounds like it helps to predict severe complications. They don't always deliver as soon as you are symptomatic, especially if the baby is really early. It can potentially be helpful to know who needs to be delivered and who can stay pregnant longer reducing the complications that come with a preterm delivery. Also because it's experimental it was probably covered by the research funds.

Dr Tom Brewer eradicated preeclampsia and metabolic toxemia of late pregnancy in populations he served as a doctor. He treated it as a disease of malnutrition and prescribed a diet from early pregnancy to meet the demands of pregnancy. He learned about the prevention by studying how some doctors in earlier generations also successfully curbed the incidence through diet. Women need more protein in addition to the full range of regular nutrients to build blood volume, or they wind up with a contracted blood supply which leads to high blood pressure and all the other symptoms. Most of our illnesses are a result of our body not getting the nutrients required for healthy function, but American doctors are not trained in nutrition. Usually women who experienced eclampsia have a hard time believing it could have been prevented if they only knew how they needed to consume sufficient nutrients to meet the demands of pregnancy. It's not their fault. The medical world still argues against this and even refers to flawed studies to negate this dietary approach. But midwives who promote the Brewer diet (or something akin to it) find they also have avoided preeclampsia in populations they serve.

I just read a study that said low Vitamin D plays a part in preeclampsia. Friendly PSA: The RDA for VitD is ridiculously low, just enough to keep you from getting rickets. Plus, it's not just pregnant women who need Vitamin D, we ALL do. Especially if your skin is dark. Because you don't absorb sunlight as well as lighter skin colors. Do some research to find out the OPTIMUM level of VitD you need. You'll thank me when your energy levels are up and you feel better.
@sarahpersonalexcellenceguide21 күн бұрын
Oh, and I've also read that VitD plays a role in post-partum depression too. Especially if you're pregnant during the winter and not getting much sun. Supposedly there's "not enough evidence" to test all pregnant women for Vitamin D status. But they invent tests like this to charge you a lot of money. And it only tells you you have preeclampsia, not what's causing it. Don't let pharma fool you.
