Roger Federer, perhaps hits his slice, and continues with the follow through, while the others drop the racket after contact. I prefer Federer's slice, because I feel he generates power with it, too.

dimitrov and federer are just so butter. i think they are in the same level for the slice

None of them have good slice. All are defensive. They have weak grips so strings are to the sky. Can’t be offensive this way. Too much high to low and across body with swing paths. No direct line to ball. Again no offense. All have extended follow through so no thud at contact. Lastly poor contact to the side of body and not out in front.

I just realised that the closing of the face during contact is very much similar to pronation in serve. mind blown

How can one hit a slice with power too? Is it that one needs to slice the swing of the racket as late as possible on the incoming ball?

That, and more push-through on the swing. Nothing but spin more often than not floats the ball more.

I use an ( in line ) Eastern BH grip like Rosewall. Allows stronger wrist loading and greater supination upon release, as well a flatter swing disk ( between 10 and 45 degrees below horizontal ) resulting in a skidding drive through. I use this with an offensive mindset. Continental ( cocked hammer ) locks the wrist too much and makes it all arm - floaty and sitting up. Too vertical a swing path ( more than 45 degrees ) is a chop - good as a surprise against a net rusher but otherwise it sits up short. These are Tilden´s observations BTW.

@@kaialoha You raise some good points, but I think an Eastern BH slice grip is too limiting in a macro sense. You can get plenty of action on the ball with a continental if you use a proper motion, and you don't run into as much trouble with tougher shots. I use a continental and my brother an eastern and mine's a lot better than his in more situations.

Part of the reason why power slices are not hit is because the backswing is too big and a player cannot attack the ball for risk of an error. If shorten up swing you can actually go after a ball with acceleration and the control to hit with power.

You can’t hit a power slice late. Out in front where there is leverage and maximum speed of racket head. If you hit it late your racket is still building up speed.

Some of the players have their racquet open when preparing but close the racquet on contact.

i think because the motion of close to open works just like a catapult, which can generate addition power.
